I've remastered this popular scarf in anticipation of the upcoming Tunisian crochet classes that I'm teaching nationally.
It's inspired by my Five Peaks Shawl, which was published in Interweave Crochet magazine, Spring 2010.
Like the shawl (except that it has a long rectangular scarf shape instead of an "L" -- the "five peaks"), you begin in one corner, and edge it with simple eyelets as you go.
One of the 'remastered' aspects is that I've found a new way to shape the left edge. I also think that this kind of design is the most fun if you can work from a diagram of it, instead of (or in addition to) a traditional pattern text.
I'm writing and diagramming this scarf now and it'll be available as a downloadable crochet pattern pdf at my DesigningVashti site. Please see my Flickr profile for direct links.
This view makes me think of tulips. Or '3 amigos'.
It contrasts the three widths I've made. Mainly I wanted to get the most light shining through the glass beads to show that there are no stitch strands partly covering them. And, that they line up neatly.
I'm so happy to have found a way to keep the color changes showing only on the backs, and without covering the bead rows.
Yarns and crochet threads shown:
left: Manuela size #5 mercerized cotton threads
middle: Coats Opera size #5 mercerized cotton threads
right: Spud and Chloe Fine (merino wool and silk blend fingering weight/sock yarn)
This is 100% slip stitch crochet with some new maneuvers I discovered so that the beads line up and stay put neatly, are equally visible on both sides, the color changes are clean, and the seam is invisible!
Just in time for a crochet jewelry class, and several in-depth slip stitch classes, that I'll be teaching over the next months.
