It didn't take me long once I got started crocheting for these cuties before I had designed some patterns. I'm hoping to get them published on Ravelry soon.

new mini critters, and they're famous! featured in Stitch magazine, Fall 2011. :D

Dead tree along the trail along the Tulpehocken Creek.

This guy hung out by the front door for most of the day, then flew off after dark without a trace or a word...

The color version didn't look so nice--the B&W came out much better

Some random things that have been sitting around for a while.

Desert squirrel (Harris' antelope squirrel) comes for a handout.

- San Felipe, Baja (Mexico)

Info: Harris's antelope squirrels are diurnal being active during the day, including midday hot hours. They do not hibernate and remain active above ground during the year. These squirrels are solitary and meet only during the breeding season. They often climb cacti to scan the territory. Harris's antelope squirrels live in burrows that are often found under various shrubs. They also locate their shelters around rock-bound hills, where they can easily take shelter when necessary. In order to protect themselves from the heat of the desert these little rodents carry their tails over their bodies providing shade. They also use a heat reduction method where individuals move into shaded positions and lie spread eagled against the ground. This method is called a "heat dumping". In order to communicate with each these animals produce trill sounds and stamp their forepaws as alarm signs. > animalia.bio/harriss-antelope-squirrel

Least chipmunk (Tamias minimus) seen running around on a Spearfish Creek trail - Spearfish, South Dakota.

Murphy Road Recycling’s GE 100 tonner spots a load at Seven-D Lumber in Hartford, CT on February 19, 2008. Connecticut Southern would position the lumber cars so that the MRRX crews could spot Seven D, eliminating a very time consuming move for the CSO. This is all gone now, as Seven D moved to a new location on the P&W's Middletown Branch, and Murphy Road Recycling has purchased the land seen in this photo and expanded their operation (which now uses a Trackmobile for switching).

This got a lot of attention on SOAphoto, so I decided to upload it!

Unfortunately this week (Aug 31-Sept 6), I discovered two chipmunks that had passed away in the yard for unknown reasons. This fella could have been one of them. If so, RIP little guy, you gave my family and I lots of fun and laughs!

Named for its bug-like appearance, the Cargo Critter, is a tiny ship with the inglorious job of picking up small objects in one place and putting them down somewhere else. It began its life as a bet between engineers who, having lived far too long, had become bored of thinking of good ideas and moved on to bad ones. The bet, so the story goes, was that the ship's architect could design and sell a cargo ship with the capacity to carry no more cargo than two strong humans could lift comfortably. The designer won the bet by giving the ship more thrust than a comparably-sized fighter. It can't carry much, but it will get it there quickly!

During IRM's "Diesel Days", this little critter was out and about on the yard tracks. I don't remember seeing this operating at the museum before. I couldn't find much info on it.
