This species is native to North America, where it is found mainly in the southeastern parts of the continent. Anoles are most abundant on the coastal plain from North Carolina to Florida, and west into central Texas, at least as far as San Antonio. They have also been introduced into Hawaii. The species is also relatively popular as a pet. This and most other anole species are rarely bred in captivity, so most specimens sold in the pet trade are wild-caught. Babies are usually about the size of about a seven year old's thumb and should not be put in a tank that is over 10 gallons. When they hatch it is not uncommon for them to be eaten by the male.

This was one of the very first pictures I took starting my new love affair with photography. These deer came down everyday towards the end of February looking for corn or even bird seed. It was kind of sad because they were so very skinny. Even though I was advised not to feed them, I bought bags of corn and apples for them anyway. I figure it was their land first and they had a right to eat just like I did.

I love these little anoles running all over my property. Now that it's warm again, they are all over the place, along with the toads, frogs and skinks. They are wonderful at keeping the insect population down. Unfortunately Zooie continues to work at keeping these little critter's population down as well. The almighty hunter is always looking for his next victim. Don't worry though, this guy was safe.

His formal name is Smokey, but we all call him Critter. He is throwing food out of dish because he can't destroy the toy hanging in his cage. He wants the ringer out of the bell.

These 'critters' in a jar are my son's reaction to an idea from his primary school, which are handed out for the quietest and best behaved child in the class. Let's just say at home he had to make his own as he certainly would not be rewarded with them!

(P.S. If you're in Seattle, this kitten and some of its sibs are seeking good homes.)
