Operation Horses and Heroes is a 501(c)(3) Not-for-profit organization dedicated to provide healing and wellbeing to military veterans and active duty suffering from the effects of PTSD, and other traumatic brain injuries through the proven concept of Equestrian Psychotherapy. It is not horseback riding lessons, in fact it is rare if any of the participants in the program actually mount a horse. It’s more about providing our veterans with a scenario requiring them to work with the horse to accomplish a task under the watchful eye of a highly trained and credentialed Equine Psychotherapist. Using cues from the horse the therapist can establish “tells” about the veteran and use that information to help them understand their PTSD and provide ways to cope with it, or work through it in everyday life situations.
OHH is not funded by any government organization and relies entirely on donations, volunteers, and the support of everyday people like you. We have so far successfully held our 3 and 4 day programs in various locations around the US without it costing our dedicated military men and women any money. It’s bad enough some of them have to take off work, or use precious vacation days for the program, however it works and it vital to healing in the family especially. For more information on Operation Horse and Heroes visit www.operationhorsesandheroes.org or search for them on face book.

In person and via photography, verified and corroborated with the most trustworthy, heavily credentialed, senior, and sane collectors I know--about a half dozen of them!!--that this "last cartouche" (the DAS is NOT a cartouche--no writing or letters!) butt stock is authentic, albeit it's been sanded. Not too many dings.
Before my 2017 cataract surgery, I didn't trust my eyesight any more, and had everyone else examine this stuff via photography AND "first person". My confidence has since returned.
The metal will be removed before I dump it for something I actually need.
Weirdly, this was about the very LAST item I was looking for or wanted when I stumbled across this, and upon cleanup, contacted the network of "usual suspects" because I no longer trust my eyesight on wood. Looking back, I doubt if I've seen two dozen of these. They're fairly close to being the least common of the letter cartouched butt stocks.
Last one I had was on an old D.C.M. rifle, from an estate, and had been surmarked with a DAS (Defense Acceptance Stamp). It, too, was absolutely authentic, and appeared on an all original rifle right in that low 4 million area where one would figure such things might've happened.
Anyway, it's a certainty, puffed up internet liars and windbags to the contrary.

Chris Branham filed election qualifying paperwork this week with City of Cullman Clerk Wesley Moore. With that submission, Mr. Branham is now officially a candidate seeking the office of Board Member representing Place 2 in the upcoming Cullman City School Board of Education elections.
Branham feels privileged to have grown up in Cullman and to have been educated in the Cullman City School system. He graduated from Cullman High School in 1994. His wife, Jennifer Sandlin Branham, graduated in 1995 from Cullman High School as well.
For post-Cullman city school education, Mr. Branham also attended Wallace State Community College and the University of Alabama Huntsville.
The Branham’s will have been married 21 years in November. They have two children Abby and Ally who also attend the Cullman City School system.
Together, the couple owns and operates Branham Accessories LLC located in the heart of downtown Cullman. The company has been in business for over 10 years. They started the business from scratch … with just a desk and a phone. They are very appreciative of the opportunity to conduct business in Cullman; they are also extremely grateful for the support and patronage they received from the Cullman community over the last decade.
Mr. Branham is also very active in a variety organizations in Cullman:
• A Rotarian in the Rotary Club of Cullman
• A long-time official for the State of Alabama Athletic Department
• A credentialed Level ‘E’ USSF soccer referee
• A Branham’s attend Daystar Church
In the past, Mr. Branham has been a Board Member for AYSO in Cullman, and teacher for the Safe Haven classes for this popular youth soccer organization. He has also coached basketball and soccer to various age groups of children in Cullman’s Upwards and Sacred Heart.
When we met with Mr. Branham, he came across as VERY excited about the opportunity to run for School Board during an era of significant economic growth:
“I believe in the Cullman community as a business owner, husband, and father. Cullman has given myself and family so much. In return, I want to give back to the community by running for School Board Place 2. I would appreciate everyone’s consideration, vote, and support.”

For the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the larger homeland security enterprise, the coming years hold the potential for significant change. While broad shifts in the structure or mission of the homeland security enterprise are unlikely, there are a number of specific areas in which tangible advances can be made. These include cyber threat information sharing, enterprise screening and credentialing, border security intelligence and information sharing, and investment planning and execution. Yet in order for needed progress to occur on these issues, policymakers and planners must have a clear vision for the future and an understanding of desired strategic outcomes. To offer perspectives on the complex systems dynamics of the homeland security enterprise, CSIS is collaborating with MITRE, operator of the DHS’s Homeland Security Systems Engineering and Development Institute (HS SEDI) FFRDC, to characterize key crosscutting homeland security enterprise missions and frame transformational outcomes for the Department. You are invited to an on-the-record conference on October 30, 2012 in order to foster a dialogue regarding strategic visions for the homeland security enterprise in these areas and explore how these visions might be implemented.

Che bella vista!!! (What a beautiful sight). Sedona, Arizona, February.
I spent approximately one month or so on assignment for an Internal Audit in Phoenix / Scottsdale, Arizona for a Fortune 500 Global Wireless-Unregulated Subsidiaries Corporate IA Group. This was a 24 x 7 career, because you were on the road or required to go where it was scheduled you go to be on a very prestigious level career track in this elite group and expected to be able to come up to speed overnight on a company’s financials and add value on day 1. When you were not in the office, there was planning for the following months or so of travel requirements, so you had to be an excellent multi-tasker with extreme focus and moral principles / ethics. It takes a breadth of skills and the decency, it is not a passion. I had to stay a weekend or so due to the travel policy. One weekend, I remember I went looking at houses at an upscale area to get a gauge of the real estate in the area, I knew from a long time before that, I would have a brilliant future, Marriage and Children, this job was just a journey. My faith carried me through. It was really very interesting, I believe one of the houses was next door to a professional sports coach, or so the realtor said. I also did some sightseeing in the area.
On a Saturday I journeyed to Sedona, AZ with the audit team. The landscape was lovely and vibrant, really breathtaking. I visited a church, hiked a bit, lunched, visited a psychic for the fun of it, tried to find the “vortex”, and than journeyed to a casino. Timberlands were a necessity in this venue as was the gold cross I used to wear (need a new one!!). I requested that someone take my photo because I was just so amazed by the landscape, and had never been to Arizona before that time.
The bottom line: when I had to stay weekends with work folks in work destinations, I just tried to make the best of it, and since I was one highly credentialed woman in management out of three in a ratio to a dozen or so highly credentialed gentlemen, you stand your ground, literally!!!

Polo Match- Barn Workshop- Military Veteran Fundraiser
Aug 12-13th Bettendorf IA, Quad Cities Area
This workshop is a fund raiser for Operation Horses and Heroes, a 501(c)(3) and will take place at the Quad Cities Polo Club and surrounding area on August 12 and 13th, The tour will consist of premium access to photograph the horses before and during the polo match on Saturday afternoon, a group dinner, an overnight stay in a local hotel and a barn or horse barn photographic workshop inside three barns the next morning.
The price for this workshop is $100 and is entirely tax deductible as Keith and Tony are donating all their fees to the not-for-profit and the gate for the match has been waived. The fee covers admission to the polo field and the guided barn workshop the next day. The only out of pocket will be gas and tolls, dinner and the hotel room that will be reserved for you. We will spend a maximum of 1 hour at each barn, giving time to shoot and get individual instruction. We will suggest and help arrange carpooling. The group would be capped at 20 people.
Upon registration you will receive the exact location, parking instructions, photography gear recommendations, and any other vital information to make this a fun, comfortable learning experience. Since this is the first time for the Polo Field hosting such an event, and the first time photographing here, we don’t have any good photos of what you can expect. However, imagine the polo match, riders in colorful silks, horses braided with colorful ribbons, and the match itself with horses flexing, and straining, showing off their power and flexibility. Then Sunday morning we’ll offer exclusive entrance to private barns near the polo grounds with all of it’s textures, and patterns, livestock, fencing, and so many other artful opportunities.
40 minutes before the opening bell, I am beckoned inside, duly credentialed, and begin wandering the familiar alleys of Bayside, as dealers are still rushing to finish setting up.
I wanted to get in early for two reasons: first, and most obviously, to simply avoid waiting in a Big Honkin' Line(tm). But I don't come to conventions just to mingle with the international jet-set and engage in wry banter with a former Booker Prize nominee. That's just gravy. I really want to add to my art collection. Any large con is filled with artists desiring to turn this trip into a revenue-positive experience, or maybe just earn some beer money or simply interact with fans. Either way, they're often willing to sketch, and usually for a quite modest price. Some even sketch for free, out of goodwill.
Trouble is, many artists are hot enough that their dance cards fill quickly. Some are so popular that you need to get on their sketch lists on the very first day, or else they'll be booked for the whole weekend. With others, you'd need to get to their table shortly after the show opens. And then there are those for whom even that isn't good enough: if you want to stand any chance whatsoever, you need to find a way to get inside ahead of everyone else and know precisely where your quarry will be setting up.
If one of your goals is indeed to get sketches, there are two different ways to succeed. One way is to be an obnoxious idiot, spending all of your time thinking about nothing but art, art, art. You certainly aren't going to waste any of your precious time or energy in being nice to people, nor should you stop at any moment to ask yourself "The items I'm pursuing are pieces of paper with lines and colors on them, and not donor organs for terminally-ill relatives. Am I behaving in a manner that shames both myself and my ancestors?"
You'll probably want to give Method One a miss.
Which leaves you with Method Two: just do a little homework and arrive at the show with some sort of game plan. It's really not a whole lot of work. The convention website lists all of the artists who'll be attending. You hit a couple of comic art sites and plug some names into some search fields, which usually returns a few examples of the artist's convention work. Once you're down to a dozen Persons of Interest, you poke around for message boards and artists' personal websites, to find out if an artist plans to be sketching, how much dough they'll be asking, some sense of how busy they're going to be, and most importantly where their table is going to be.
So I entered the convention center with about eight names and table locations on a list. I knew which table to stake out before the opening bell, and the two or three artists that I'd want to visit before the con was more than a couple of hours old.
It sounds like a lot of obsessive, geeky work. Geeky? Okay, that's a fair cop. But it's hardly obsessive, and it amounts to just two or three hours of web research. It's time well-invested: the payoff is a much, much more enjoyable con experience. You come in with a good sense of what you want to accomplish, realistic expectations, and a firm plan.
So after a casual lap around the show floor to get my bearings, I delivered myself to Table 18 in Artists' Alley a half an hour before WizardWorld was scheduled to open, where I became not the first but the second geek waiting in line for Josh Middleton to arrive. He's a popular artist of some of Marvel's mutant books. I don't really read them, but I love his covers and interior art; they're just spectacularly well-articulated. His message board indicated that he'd only be doing a handful of sketches over the weekend, and that lots of folks had tried and failed several times.
Sure enough, by the time the doors swung open to admit the less-devious, there were six people in line and moments later a couple of dozen people were there watching the artist hang his banner and set out his merchandise. Twenty minutes later, Josh had my money and a sheet of character reference. Five minutes after that, I had dispensed the same commodities to the second artist that I Re
