creatures, robots, and stuff, this was for a figure painting class, I want a bit crazy on it. I used a lot of expression or at lest tried too, I love the monster creature thing I think he turned out nicely siting there with his large teeth and all,. and the robot suprized and such looking at the viewer I like how that worked out, this painting used some contrast there are dark dark's, and light lights although I could have pushed the lights further and perhaps made the painting better. this work is on oil painting done on canvas, it was completed in 2009 so its realitvely new. there are stalagmites and stalactites in the painting too in the cave like entrance'

Creature Feature - Limberlost State Historic Site

Our naturalist Curt Burnette was once a zoo curator and has a love of reptiles. Yesterday Curt handled a live alligator! This is not the first alligator at Limberlost. Curt told the story of Gene Stratton-Porter's alligator.

Just bought this today for £1. Yay!

Not sure of the film. Who is that as the monster? Not Karloff, I'm almost sure. Is it Lugosi? Glenn Strange?

NEWS RELEASE

“You have nothing to fear but Fear Himself,” warns Dr. Fear, his tongue firmly in cheek. Fear is an exciting new, avant-garde character making his debut in the 12th issue of Fun Adventure Comics! from publisher Will Lill Comics.

“Dr. Fear: A Bad Day in the Bowery” was written by Michael Vance, an Oklahoma and Seminole native.

“Unconventional best describes Dr. Fear,” said Vance. “He is not a superhero and has no secret identity. He earns his living hosting a “Creature Feature” TV show, and as an adjunct to the Bowery police department. My hope with Dr. Fear is to offer something really different for readers who are a bit tired of superhero clichés.”

Brian Cote is the artist on Dr. Fear and is a regular contributor to the Psychoblab zine. His story “The Inheritance” can be found in Source Point Press’s 13 Little Hell’s anthology. He recently drew “Kid Zippo” for CREECH #1, soon to be released through Kickstarter, and has self published two anthologies through his own company, Catalyst Comics.

Dr. Fear was lettered by Warren Montgomery.

Vance has been published in dozens of magazines and as a syndicated columnist and cartoonist in over 500 newspapers. His magazine work has been published in seven countries, he briefly ghosted the Alley Oop comic strip, and created and wrote his own strip for five years called Holiday Out. Vance also wrote comic book titles including Straw Men, Angel of Death, The Adventures of Captain Nemo, Holiday Out and Bloodtide.

His thirty short stories about a fictional town called “Light’s End” appeared in more than a dozen magazines, and most were recorded by legendary actor William (Murder She Wrote) Wisdom. One of these stories was nominated for the international 2004 SLF Fountain Award for Best Short Story.

His fourteen published novels include his Weird Horror Tales trilogy, Global Star, The Equation, Young Nemo and the Black Knights Klockwerks, Motor City Manhunt, and The Thief of Two Worlds.

Vance’s weekly comics review column, Suspended Animation, was continuously published for more than twenty years. At its peak, it was read by approximately 4,000,000 readers a year.

Three additional stories are featured in this issue of Fun Adventure. They are “Mister Chameleon”, written by Jonathan Gilbert with art by Seppo Makinen and David Owens and lettering by Susan Dorne, “Depthon”, written by Steve Skeates with art by Ron Stewart and lettering by Warren Montgomery.

Indian Blue Peacock

(Pavo cristatus)

St. Louis Zoo, St. Louis, Missouri

On my way into the aviary at the St. Louis Zoo, I passed by a peacock. At that time, the peacock was just wandering about without its plumage on display. My parents and I waited for a few minutes hoping that the peacock would demonstrate its great beauty, but to no avail. After spending about half an hour in the aviary, my mom started yelling to me with a great sense of urgency. She pointed to the peacock right outside the doors of the aviary. This time, it was strutting around with its magnificent, vibrant plumage on full display! While three or four peahens sat still along the side, mesmerized by the peacock, I moved toward the peacock to take advantage of the opportunity. The tame peacock was not alarmed by my presence. I slowly made my way toward it, and I eventually got to the point that I was standing right next to it. Over the course of several minutes, I snapped more than 10 close-up photos. This is one of my better photos from the experience. = )

Other comments: I had recently exited the aviary where I had been shooting on no flash, automatic priority. I didn’t want to blow my opportunity to photograph the peacock while its plumage was still on full display, so I didn’t bother to mess around with the controls. That’s why the ISO speed is relatively high.
