The Ariekene (Hosts) are the sentient species who live on the planet that is the setting of China Mieville's EMBASSYTOWN. Reading the book, which is an intricate mind-bending 'SF Space Opera' novel where semiotics and linguistics take the stage instead of Secret Technology and Planetary/Galactic War.
The species is 'impossible' for the humans to initially comprehend, and as I read the book, I felt I needed to take a shot at visualizing them. It was no easy task, as these process sketches indicate.
Everywhere in the, be it in a fantasy world or in reality there are misconceptions, it is misinterpreted, not understood or maybe some are a bit stupid.
In any case the consequences can have big or painful consequences.
Fortunately there are the older and wise who can point it out to the others.
