This captivating painting evokes a dreamy, otherworldly atmosphere where the moth becomes a symbol of light amid darkness. The artist masterfully blends surreal elements with mythological inspiration to portray the moth as a mystical creature that brightens desolate spaces and guides lost travelers. The vibrant colors and delicate feathers hint at the magic and fantasy underlying this extraordinary beast, inviting viewers into a surreal fairy tale that merges wonder with the unknown.
This artwork transports viewers to a dream world where fantasy and surrealism converge, showcasing furry, bird-like creatures caught between earth and sky. The mysterious beings, reminiscent of mythical caribou and fairy tale beasts, evoke a sense of wonder and the extraordinary. The piece captures a moment of magical transformation, where enchantments lift grounded creatures into flight, inviting contemplation on freedom and transcendence beyond earthly limits. The imaginative blend of steampunk motifs and ethereal surrealism immerses the viewer in a post-apocalyptic yet hopeful tale.
The Ariekene (Hosts) are the sentient species who live on the planet that is the setting of China Mieville's EMBASSYTOWN. Reading the book, which is an intricate mind-bending 'SF Space Opera' novel where semiotics and linguistics take the stage instead of Secret Technology and Planetary/Galactic War.
The species is 'impossible' for the humans to initially comprehend, and as I read the book, I felt I needed to take a shot at visualizing them. It was no easy task, as these process sketches indicate.
