It has been said that the Florida swamps are full of all manner of creatures. Some would even call them monsters! So I shouldn't have been so surprised when I encountered this creature in Florida. Although I wasn't in a swamp, my friend Carolyn and I were exploring Universal Studios. This so-called monster was pretty easygoing if a little shy. Regardless, I was able to get this image, and no one was dragged off to the lagoons.
This was taken in RAW using a full-spectrum converted camera. It was processed in Linux using RawTherapee.
The first composite, creature, incorporates photographs from Pompeii, Corciano, Venice and Perugia. The black and white layer of the birds is what inspired this composite. There are many pigeons in all the cities we have been to and I really like the way they interact with the buildings and landscape around them. The pigeon photo is a photo that my friend took while in Corciano, the town next to our villa. I was originally going to use a realistic photo of a tower, but after traveling to Venice and seeing the tower in an art book, I chose to use the fake one instead. I added clouds to the flat gray background of the bird photo as the added texture in this image. I chose a color theme off Kuler that included black, gray, dark green, tan, and light green. The frame of simple white gives the dark image more depth and brightness.
I sure wouldn't want to bump into this creature in the forest. It's crazy looking! This was at the summer palace in Beijing.
Silly creatures, spray painted on the walls of a railway station. Too bad about the railing obscuring the view, but this was the best position I could find. Oh, and be careful at nights when the moon is full; for that is the time during which they come alive. And if, during that time, they manage to bite you in the nose, you too shall become one of them and find yourself on display on a wall somewhere the next morning ...

Bringing fictional creatures into existence within a live art and theatrical context.
Creature is a cross-disciplinary project led by SDNA in collaboration with pioneering digital media artists, neuro-scientists, electronic musicians, dancers and physical performers, and explores the ways in which we can bring fictional creatures into existence within a live art and theatrical context. The first stage of research focused on the exploration of the ideal conditions needed for the human imagination to conjure visions of a “Creature.”
