We are creatures of the Fey
Prepare to give your soul away
Our spell is passion and it is art
Our song can bind a human heart
And if you chance to know our face
Our hold shall be your last embrace....
This red squirrel loves to sit in our Christmas tree waiting for the right moment to hit the nearby feeder...shot through the window :)
Why does it look like otters are always having fun? I don't know why I looked up the origins of Ring Around the Rosie, but was quite surprised by the answer. Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, USA, October 2024

“Ring Around the Rosie” is a folk song that first arose during the Great Plague. The song was written by James FitzGerald and was first published in Kate Greenaway’s original edition of Mother Goose in 1881.
The rhyme is about the bubonic plague and Black Death. The plague devastated England and most of Western Europe in places like Germany. Many of the lines in “Ring Around the Rosie” reference symptoms of the plague, such as sneezing, coughing, and the red circular rash or a rosy rash that was present in different forms of plague.
People thought that posies would remedy symptoms of the illness, hence their reference in the song. Additionally, the titular “rosie” refers to rashes that were symptomatic of the Black Death, while “a-tishoo” references the sneezing symptoms of the plague. Finally, everyone “falling down” at the end of the rhyme references death.

We were stuck in the heat dome this weekend, and then the storms came. That left us hanging out inside looking for a little cheer. Bunny is not a fan of heat or thunderstorms and she told me to wake her up when Autumn arrives. I am starting to feel the same way....

Some of Long Ly's fish.
Sculptor Long Ly is originally from Saigon, Vietnam. “I lived happily with my family in Saigon until 1978 when we escaped the communist regime at aged only 8 years old. Along with my family we left for an unknown future on a rickety fishing boat.”
He then settled in The UK and completed his schooling. Long went on to a variety of jobs but always had art as his passion. Today he has become a unique artist with one of a kind designs. His pieces are made from recycled metal, ranging from pots and pans to plumbing pipes and carpet dividers – his imagination shows no bounds. Daily items that you would not consider art at all have been turned in to stunning creations with Long’s ingenuity and skill.
When I first came across this on a morning walk, I was sure it was some kind of creature's claw or foot. Now that I go to post this, I see the creature itself in profile. It's ugly & is going to devour that bit of green by the dried leaf!
Another, decidedly more adorable, creature at the Busch Wildlife Sanctuary. He's a flying squirrel - for some reason stationed in the little gift shop! He did appear unwell, though again, we didn't learn the reason for his stay there.
A drive by shoot courtesy of a moon roof. A squirrel, different birds, and humans. A snowfall that is sticking around for now, not much. It's November and winter is coming.

An epic battle against a creature in the deep.
Built for the Pieces of Eight contest at Forbidden Cove.
Like a midnight creature without a home
A raven without wings
A grave without a stone
I'd die like a tree without leaves
In a blistering winter
With a loveless disease.

A grey crowned crane (Balearica regulorum) in Kenya on my first trip two years ago.
We met many of them on that trip, and there was a couple where we could go out of the jeep to lie down to get better photos, like this one.
Stunning creatures!
