Scenes from my workspace. After four years, finally have this the way I like. Still need to hang up pictures and art from friends. Click on "all sizes" to see better (or find the individual photos in my photostream).
The co-working habitat of the Creative Space in Bryan Texas. These guys have it going ON. And I asked a lot of challenging questions about "well if a big job comes in how does it get passed out?" and similar. While I remain somewhat skeptical of co-working as it is a commons and by definition commons are typically abused without tolls or legislation, they do seem to have struck a balance. And given participants in The Creative Space are charged rent, there is a toll that should limit interlopers on the space.
Can anyone help me tag this with everyone's names please?
An inspiration board made from an old cork board (also found in the storage shed) and covered with scrap batting and a skirt. A vintage thrift store scarf and hanky hang nearby.
Office refurbishment in Canary Wharf, London for a financial client. The brief was to create a more inspiring working environment by targeting previously underutilised areas of the existing offices.
Previously uninteresting meeting rooms located throughout the 12,000 sq ft floor were given a radical face-lift with full height photographic images and use of colour across furniture and flooring. The spaces, both open and cellular, are now creative areas successful both in their intended use as well as creating focal points in the open plan floor.

The breakout area has been integrated with the previously separate tea point to create one large open plan space with zones for dining and food preparation. A large circular meeting table with blackboard ‘cocoon’ provides a great area for team lunches and brainstorming sessions. A full height, panoramic forest image provides a focal point and combined with the use of natural wood throughout creates a relaxing environment for personnel to utilise throughout the working day.

I was looking for something to hold my masking tapes
the few ones on Etsy were a bit too expensive and/or not holding enough of them
I went to the art store this morning (my new favorite shop !) & found these two things, originally meant for clay & scultpure (I think)
they were 5 euros each (not that bad), I know they could have been homemade, but I didn't have the proper materials ...
This is a promotional guitar we made for Wexley School for Girls. This is a Gibson Melody Maker, but we also made them some Epiphone Special II's as part of the project.
Dan Antonelli is the President of Graphic D-Signs, Inc. In Washington New Jersey. He has a really cool ad agency that caters to small business. He works on a national scale and his methods have put the little guys right up there next to the big guys. He commssioned hand lettering guru Bob Behoenek to produce a quote that Dan uses frequently with his clients. Bob is legendary for his unique style of brush lettered script, so after Dan got ahold of Bob's lettering, they came to us to bring it all to life. We studied the location that the piece would be, developed a shape to contain the lettering, fabricated the acrylic components using a variety of methods including hand shaping, painted and assembled the piece, then lit it up with green halo lighting. It really turned out sharp and looks awesome on the wall in his ad agency.

Taken for FGR task "creative spaces", as I could wander the streets of Manchester all evening.
and
TRP task "out and about" although I may be pushing the portrait aspect of the shot to extremes, the blur to the left of the frame is Maggie...
One thing it is very easy to forget is how lax the UK is regarding "jaywalking". Essentially in the UK pedestrians have the right of way on all roads except motorways. Here we are just wandering through the moving traffic. It was I bit of a culture shock when I visited Japan and saw how regimentally people obey road crossings.
We went to see District 9 tonight, I though it was beautifully dark and hilarious... although I suppose that says more about my mentality and the quality of the film. I liked the juxtaposition of characters perspectives, and the twisting of certain stereotypes. It is certainly worth a watch particularly if you liked Children of men. By comparison this film is a slightly watered down version with aliens and not quite so good cinematography ;)
There has been some press stating that the film is racist in it's portrayal of the Nigerian characters. I personally don't think the Nigerians are singled out, as the film is equally negative towards almost all the human characters. The Nigerians are portrayed as gun toting pimps and black market racketeers, and the remaining white and black South African characters are racist xenophobes desperately seeking a "final solution" to the alien problem. Nobody is presented in a positive light. Even the main human character starts off as a rather racist ignorant idiot.
For those of you who have read this far and remained interested ;) this shot was taken at 3200iso which seems very usable.
Lightroom: white balance, vignette, auto levels, reset the black point and push the brightness, sharpen, save to JPG.
I Use both the wirles keyboard and the Magic Mouse. Also trying out a short hair car interior rug if i like it i'll get a big piece that fits the window board.

Much messiness and disorganisation. I did the Super Duper Craft Fair in Nov 2011, fell ill, and didn't enter my studio again until late Jan 2012. This is what it looked like on day one of the makeover.

Numerous factors have conspired over the spring to keep me from spending very much time on Flickr. Some of those elements are still going on my life, but others have passed, so I'm jumping on any available moment I can to work on my photography in some capacity (taking new shots, sorting through past images, uploading to Flickr, visiting my wonderful Flickr contacts' streams, etc), as the joy that photography brings me is an amazing counterbalance to the stress and worry said issues sometimes bring to my life.
The image below is one from my archives (albeit a more recent shot, which was snapped this past spring), that shows darling Stella perched on the corner off the desk in my office (or studio, as I'm starting to think of it more these days).
I adore this shot (and the other two similar ones that accompany it) for a myriad of reasons, but most of all because it really captures the perpetual inquisitiveness that Stella is filled with (as evident by the fact that she just had to hop up on the desk to see why I had the camera in my hand, when I snapping shots of something on a nearby ledge). Those big amber hued eyes are so full of wonder and interest, it's all I can do not nickname her Curious Stella! :D
I tried to declutter/sort out my creative space ONCE AGAIN LOL. This photo shows a good part of my inspiration / WIPs wall. Wooden clothespin are "sticked" to the wall with BlueTack. And the string is knotted to the doors. No hole. (we rent) (Jan. 24th 2009)
Let Reid Signs design the signage program for your office space. We perform a thorough survey and then present you with unique ideas that fit perfectly within your budget no matter what it may be. Because we are the designer and manufacturer, we are able to choose materials and finishes that perfectly compliment your office environment and stay within your cost parameters without compromising the project. We love coming up with new ways to solve old problems. One of the ways we can save you money is to design a system that YOU can maintain. Once it is installed, you never have to pay for changes again. This has been a very successful approach and is used by many of the top law firms in the country who use our systems.

Reid Signs stripped off the polyurethane coating from this guitar body and then produced deeply carved detail into the body and headstock
This is where most of the work get's done in the studio. The kitchen! The rest of the space serves more of a show/exhibition & inspirational space.

I'm all moved in! My whole family worked so hard on this - from age 8 to 44. I spent a few years saving my pennies for this. I have so much more space, storage, full bathroom, office in back, big floor for classroom ... or yoga by myself. Good bye dining room. I'll be back when I'm hungry. : )
