One of my fraternity brothers was in a car accident last week and passed away from his injuries yesterday.
Dennis introduced me to the world of musical theater, and I will forever think of him when I see or hear Into the Woods.
When I performed my first performance on the stage, he made me feel safe and welcomed- and made me find the joy in performance.
He was a brilliant star in the theatrical arts stage of America, and will be missed by all who knew him... my heart is broken, my soul is hurting, and I will forever miss you.

Traveling is always a challenge for me, because my routine and comforts of home are not there (I think I was a hobbit once upon an age). I do like when I can still journal and find some quiet and peace whenever I travel. It's a little piece of personal Heaven I can rest in.

I have a lot of people ask about my creative journaling process. It always begins with inspiration, in this case this was a shot from one of my great Flickr friends. I always trace the right and left side margins with a pencil to be erased once I am editing the completed pade. I never write in the same pattern, and in this case, I chose a rather circular spiral path.
Stay tuned for the next part!

I have been thinking a lot about my annual trip to the Rocky Mountains and what or if I want to climb this year. So much has changed, so much has been accomplished there, and yet I feel like there are things left un-done- I feel like I still need something to drive me, I feel like if I went there this year I may not want to come home...

Long ago my mother introduced me to the movie Amadeus which strongly influenced my life in music. This year for Christmas I bought her the Blu-ray of Amadeus and today we spent three hours watching the movie together for the first time.
Last December when I watched this movie, of the many scenes I love, the scene where Amadeus and Salieri are writing the Requiem together was suddenly and especially moving… more than it had been before and very poetic. I decided to translate and incorporate the words of Mozart’s Requiem in my journal this year.
Such beauty in simplicity…

I thought of no better way to close 2024 than to spend some time early in the morning reflecting on the year, before working the last hours of the working year, and then heading out for a family gathering for New Year's Eve.
This makes two years in a row that I have stayed up to greet the New Year at midnight. I think I found yet another great tradition to adopt today...!

My journal has now passed the 10,000 page mark.
I started my journal in March of 2005, but took two extended breaks when I quit smoking and when I was working under terribly stressful conditions. All the same, I try to write almost every single day, and that shows in the volume.

Every autumn I sit down with a different playlist, and set aside a little more time to write and reflect on memories, thoughts, and everything in-between the two. I usually have a pumpkin spice latte while I write, but today I went with a spiced toffee nut latte. The coffee was delicious, the music was amazing, and journaling was just what I needed.

One of my good Flickr friends is always good for a shot out and about in nature, which is just something I happen to love. It's been such a pleasure watching his work, his photography, and learn his stories through these daily photo blogs.
So glad we were able to meet, even if only via Flickr!

Today's journal story is inspired by one of my Flickr friends, Barbara (and I know I could neve draw a picture and do it justice to her picture).
Some days I think I have this photography thing down with a good shot here or there and I feel good about my art, and then I see Barbaras pictures every day and they constantly blow me away. There is a beauty and a simplicity to them, and yet a complexity to the composition and lighting.
If you get a chance go check out her stream- she's awesome!

You see this top symbol in my journal quite a lot. It is derived from an old Anglo-Saxon rune, and as it is drawn translates to:
“The Heavens give us the power to achieve what is possible…”
What is possible is endless, but our ability to capture that endless possibility is limited only by ourselves.
