Half the fun of journaling is coloring in the pages and bringing them to life. I have had these colored pencils since I was in high school, and it just goes to show that if you pay for quality- it will last!

Year Eighteen Of My 365 Project
I have been hiking more this year, so I have had much more to write about in my journal. The day after my 18-mile hike I write and drew 5 pages worth of reflections.

I have only a handful of pages to write in my third journal before beginning my fourth volume of journals. Seems like such a long time I hae been writing but it's truly a passion...

One good thing about going out on so many hikes is that it inspires many pages in my journal writing.

I often look to the works of others to inspire art in my journal- hope I did these justice (I'm nowhere near an artist!)

A sad universal truth about any kind of relationship: you grow together or grow apart; if it's a one-sided relationship it's just a matter of time before the vine withers away. But if you grow together, strength builds the tendons of that vine to last through any hardship.

It is hard to believe, but in a few days the third volume of my journal will come to a close, and my fourth volume will begin.
Each volume is 3,000 pages so it certainly takes some time to write through them. I think back to when I started my current journal- where I was in life, what I was going through, and most certainly how far I have come physically, emotionally, mentally, and much more.
Here's to the excitement and scary moments that are ahead of me... thanks for being a part of the journey!

This time of year, the number of leaves on the ground are unmeasurable here. When I came across this picture from a Flickr friend, it made me think about how beauty is in life and yet also in death.
I tried to do justice to the original, but I am absolutely not a self-proclaimed artist by any means. If you get a chance, check out Terry's stream for some beautiful landscape and wildlife shots!

That quote just stood out to me, and instead of a 365 post, I put it in my journal…
"But like the morning light, it scattered the night and made the day worth living…"

I hated that there was a period in my life where I had put down writing in my journal. I had a lot of reasons to step away, I just wish I hadn’t. Now there are very few days where I don’t journal at least two pages a day, and when I am sick or traveling I typically make up for any day missed!

I follow two amazing artists- both who post beautiful photographs that tell such great stories of their lives and the world they live in... and best of all (though I have never met them), it is easy to see what beautiful souls they have, radiating from the inside out.
They're in two different hemispheres, but somehow find ways to shine through their art all at once. If you get a chance, go check them out!

I wish I was a better artist for the pages of my journal, but I never really commit to developing that skill. Too many other areas of my life that take my time and energy for now at least.

Every once and a while you find a song that really stands out to you and moves you. I find that mostly when I am re-discovering songs I have not listened to for a while, and I remember why I fell in love with it to begin with...
Personal favorite version of this Peter Gabriel song:

Last step in my process is to color it in. I always use colored pencils from various brands (some are great, some are absolutely not). I never profess to be an artist, and that shows when it comes to coloring in the objects on my pages- but art is never about perfection.
I will add the original photo that inspired my eye in the comments. If you get a chance check out the photographer's full photo stream- very cool shots with a great eye for photography!

I am trying to incorporate my hiking adventures into my journal this year, as best as I can anyways. This bridge is right at Blue Hole Falls on the Firey Gizzard Trail here in Tennessee, and I have may great memories at this spot.
I remember my daughter and her husband walking over to the falls from this spot to take a picture, while the grandkids and I cheered "Ewwwww" when they snuggled for a selfie. I remember hiking with my fiancé and chasing someone's falling water bottle as it came smashing down the side, and of course I remember many times with the water flowing over the rocks and by the falls- that is never forgettable...

One of my fraternity brothers was in a car accident last week and passed away from his injuries yesterday.
Dennis introduced me to the world of musical theater, and I will forever think of him when I see or hear Into the Woods.
When I performed my first performance on the stage, he made me feel safe and welcomed- and made me find the joy in performance.
He was a brilliant star in the theatrical arts stage of America, and will be missed by all who knew him... my heart is broken, my soul is hurting, and I will forever miss you.
