Jam band, anyone?

The prolific band Phish used the Scout Books during their North American tour last summer as swag for their fans–ahem, PHANS. With strikingly bold typography, these notebooks lay out a few Phish lyrics.

Rad!

Java City was founded in Sacramento, CA in 1985 and has grown to be a hand-crafted, specialty coffee roaster, retailer and wholesaler. Because Java City only hand roasts responsibly sourced coffee, the 100% recycled Scout Book is a perfect reflection of the brands ideals. Java City's designer, Amber Witzke, created this Outside the Box Scout Book to be sold as a distinctive, fun and affordable product in their merchandise line-up at their cafes

These all entries were designed for a online grocery shop CtgGrocer .

Vance Reeser makes animated films, creates images, crafts websites, and writes a blog. He so expertly filled up this Scout Book with some amazing character sketches–and a collage treat at the end. Not to mention the first time we've ever seen the Scout Book used as a mask! Bravo, bravo Vance! Great innovation. Great sketches.

Find Vance's work here, on his website. One project we're particularly intrigued by is a short animated film Vance is creating called the Beast of Black Lake. He used Kickstarter to fund the project but is still accepting backers to help propel the project towards completion.

We're pretty sure we'll be seeing loads of great stuff from Vance in the near future.

The MHCC students created this fabulous Scout Book that is one of our favorite examples of a creative use for a custom interior.

The interior pages featured photographs, contact information and room for notes on each recent graduate. These Scout Book put the faces of the participants in the hands of their future employers, collaborators and peers. What a good idea!

If we didn't already live in Portland, we're positive these Travel Portland Scout Books would make us want to visit. The talented Amy Ruppel created this two-toned illustrative representation of our fair city: big deer statues, Mt. Hood, evergreen trees galore.

Lovely.

When Will Bryant and Mark Menjivar join forces, terrific things happen. Terrific chipboard things, to be specific.

Will and Mark worked together to create this identity system for the youth advocacy arm of Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA). Mark works with TRLA to offer aid to youth experiencing homelessness. He got in touch with Will to help him create a series of print items that could be at once beautiful, useful and durable. From that collaboration came three print pieces: a business card, a pocket postcard, and a Scout Book with custom-printed interiors that acts as a Youth Rights Booklet. Will also did the lettering and design for the snazzy TRLA Youth website. Chipboard internet? We’re into it.

In addition to being a chance to create a set of fun printed pieces, Will looks at this collaboration as an opportunity to help out: ”Enabling youth [with] the opportunity to better their circumstances is huge! Most of the kids come from rough backgrounds, so having access to this knowledge empowers them and provides hope for the future,” he told us. “It’s a blessing to be involved with a project that does this.”
