500mm f4 +1.4x (Tripod). On my way back towards the car I noticed a small bit of water between to rocks that the birds were using to freshen up after the hot day. I set up the tripod in the best angle I could find between the bushes and got a couple of shots in.
As some of you may know I decided to take the plunge and have been looking for a 2nd hand 500mm MKI for the last few months. It arrived yesterday and I took it out for some test shots earlier. It is hefty but an awesome lens. I have a lot of new field technique to learn moving up from my 300f4.

Graves of German soldiers who died in Brno during WW II. They were killed by brave Soviet soldiers and Czech resistance fighters, and it was the right thing, because they were occupiers and fought on the side of the most evil movement of 20th century.
But I'm convinced that in death all people are equal and deserve dignity - and when I saw roses which somebody gave to one particular grave, I have to admit that I was moved by it.
Cropped because I blew out his body, but hey it shows off his pretty blue eyes and odd bill. :-\
My excuse? It was raining and it was a quick shot as we ran for the exit to get our equipment back to the car!

These are "light paintings", made with the camera at low light setting, so a long shutter speed with movement creates all sorts of cool patterns. Most of the ones in this set were done the night we went driving around town looking at Christmas lights. I've already uploaded the set of "normal" Christmas light pictures. For me these are actually way more fun! I'm setting all of them as creative commons, they are VERY fun to play with. Some of my abstract or altered images started as light paintings, maybe combining aspects of several. If you use these a credit and a link back would be great. And if you could post your new image under the one you used as a comment, that would be way fun!
I do these on the highway at night too (as a passenger of course!) They're a fun way to pass the time and some of them turn out quite fun.
