Nafissa Thompson-Spires (English and African American Studies) read from her forthcoming short story collection “Heads of the Colored People.”

I'm finishing some wallhangings for an exposition next month. My room looks quite tidy on the photo for some reason, but when I sitting there it feels like a real mess.

Getting gas. Fuel filler hangs on the fuel door. I liked the overhead lighting, combined with the Maserati logo right by the filler.

When the water level in some of the creeks around here is down you will see all kinds of piled-up rocks, hoodoos they're called if they appear purposeful. Maybe they are a constructive kind of graffiti. People expressing themselves. This one seen down in Grimes Glen on Saturday is the most sophisticated one I've ever seen. Bring your picnic, pull up a rock, and sit down!

PD6 means Product Development in 6 hours. It is as demanding as rewarding! I Photo by Tiina L

I'd almost forgotten how satisfying it can be to mess around with real paint and brushes!

Seen here putting the finishing touches to the undercoat of my elephant, which was a birthday present.

After leaving it to dry for a while, I then added a bird and feather design, which took a couple of hours to complete. 'One day' art is spontaneous, creative and fun to do.

This photo is taken using asymmetrical balance. Balance may not only be achieved through symmetry but also through an artistic composition of subjects which may not be similar in actual weight. Visual weight and creative arrangement are key in this technique.

My first ever shot of a butterfly! Neat.

But she brought this new version of Uno "Uno Flash" omg i love that gammme xD anyway im rambling i took this pick cause i love crayons! and being creative.... and without carayons i probably wouldnt be as creative as i am now cause i wouldnt have been able to express my self as a child.... tata! for now..

So in the re-telling of this beloved animated Disney classic, "Al" and the Genie conspire to seduce the princess into marriage and then work together through magic and street smarts to murder her and her father to reap their own rewards. Aladdin stands to gain access to wealth he's never imagined and Genie can wreak havoc and retribution for all of the years he's been nothing but a servant and slave to mankind on this kingdom. Abu is really just out here trying to get a loaf of bread.

Orewa Library held a “Scribbles into Books” event for school children yesterday – as part of NZ Book Month. This event, led by children’s author Maria Gill, is one of 6 events around Auckland libraries during March 2011.

NZBM has helped to plan these events, and thanks to funding from Creative New Zealand, was able to help support author’s time and travel costs.

Trying to make creative's drawing look a bit like a reptillian alien, using only layering & filters in Photoshop.

This is a response to a challenge posted here.

Process - I blurred the photo heavily, and them made 5 duplicate layers. I set each layer to 20% opacity and adjusted each one to isolate a different range of shades. I modified the hues on each individuual layer to make a color banding effect. I duplicated and flattened the result, and pasted it on top. Then I added some noise. Then I used one of the layers as a selection, giving the background and foreground separate treatments. The background was blurred heavily (again) and the foreground had the contrast heightened.--

For our last day of CW we went over some things about publication and how to dicipline ourselves as writers. Behind Ice Bat is a list of things us writers need to keep in mind:

* Time: protect our writing time! We should not let things like phones, internet, and friends/family interrupt our writing time.

*Presents: Its a motivation tool. Like finish 3 pages in the next hour and get yourself a cookie -- or something like that.

* Track writing time.

* Vacation: Genuine relaxation time so you won't get fried. Plus new experiences always help out w/ writing in the long run. =)

Had to do something creative for our Photographic Society comp. Thought of the recent shots of an Eagle owl. Lovely eye, but rather drab plumage. Wondered if a peacock would appreciate being covered in eagle owl eyes. Too difficult. So imagined an eagle owl in peacock plumage - or just having a peacock for dinner!

When you look at a peacock's extended tail, the pretty bits are rather a long way apart. But I had some shots of a peacock's back and (closed) tail from 5 years ago. Used a composite of that for the owl to look through.

So is the eagle owl thinking of a nice meal, or a bit of cross dressing?
