My son was insistent that the pirates had to have their treasure chest. It doubles as a fuel tank here.

Adams County was created on April 2, 1799, from part of Pickering Territorial County. The county was organized eighteen years before Mississippi became a state and was the first to be organized in the former Mississippi Territory. It is named for the second President of the United States, John Adams, who held that office when the county was organized. Adams County is part of the Natchez micropolitan area which consists of Adams County, Mississippi and Concordia Parish, Louisiana located on opposing sides of the Mississippi River. Five Mississippi governors have come from Adams County: David Holmes, George Poindexter, John A. Quitman, Gerard Brandon, and William Allain. And in 1860, before the U.S. Civil War, Adams County was the richest county in the United States.
Above is the Adams County Courthouse located in Natchez, Mississippi, which is the county seat. Designed by William Stietenroth, the Natchez courthouse was built in 1821 and remodeled in 1925. The antebellum Adams County Courthouse, a brick Greek Revival structure, is part of the Natchez On-Top-Of-The-Hill Historic District, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 18, 1979 (and district boundary was increased on April 6, 2015).
Three bracketed photos were taken with a handheld Nikon D7200 and combined with Photomatix Pro to create this HDR image. Additional adjustments were made in Photoshop CS6.

This is a re-edit of a video I created in 2015. When this male Pileated excavated this cavity in the fall of 2014 -- completing it in the spring of 2015, he didn't have a mate. A squirrel raised three babies in it that year, and then a Wood Duck nested in it 2016. Also in 2016 the Pileated returned and created a new cavity at the top of the 40' snag. I watched him and his mate changing incubation shifts for many days, and then we went out of town for a few days, only to return to the top of the brittle snag on the ground with the adult pair frantically looking everywhere on the remaining snag. It was right about the time that their eggs would have hatched, and it was miraculous that neither parent was trapped inside when the tree fell. I think they may have successfully renested, as I saw an adult and a juvenile here that fall.
The remainder of the snag that this cavity was created in has since fallen, but our Pileated pair is finishing a new cavity in a dead pine snag as I write this, and we're hoping for little ones in a month or so. The new cavity is very high, but hopefully I'll be able to get video this year.

"Carved light beige limestone scarab placed in wrappings of a mummy as for protection for the journey to the afterlife with hieroglyphics - hole for wearing - 18th Dynasty (1570 -1342 B. C.)."
*From Sadigh Gallery's catalog.
Included in my photo composition:
One circa 1840 fusee pocket watch chain.
One antique American pocket watch balance wheel with hairspring.
*The scarab measures 19mm in length.
This scarab lost it's top shell somewhere in time with only the hieroglyphic side remaining. I will show the 'bead channel side in my discussion...
*I will also include a fusee diagram (with chain) power mechanism.)

A 67 second exposure of a dead tree resting on the shore of Porteau Cove, Howe Sound, British Columbia.
It just so happens that Howe Sound is the southern most Fjord in North America! This was taken on a drive back from Whistler. The Sea to Sky Highway has spectacular scenery all the way along it and I highly recommend making the return journey from Vancouver to Whistler sometime. It's all about the journey and not the destination :-)
