∎ The Rauhnächte are a centuries-old ritual from the Celtic and Germanic tradition that accompanies us to this day. Between December 24th and January 6th, it is important to use the "time outside of time" - for reflection, letting go and a fresh start.
∎ The Raunächte refer to the time between Christmas Eve and January 6th. There are numerous customs in many cultures for these 12 nights between the years. This is what lies behind the millennia-old rituals.

Pano-Sabotage shots collaged with some straight "SOOC" imagery, then mirrored and layered in panels and edge treatments.
The iPhone 6 doesn't do night shots very well but in this case the lights on the trees and the reflections on the marble and in the windows provided just enough for this image to be useful.

On Unst, Shetland’s northernmost island, a striking Viking longhouse and ship replica offer a vivid glimpse into Norse life and legacy.
Unst is believed to be the first landfall of Vikings in the North Atlantic, and today it boasts the highest density of rural Viking sites in the world—over 60 longhouse remains have been identified across the island. With its clinker-built hull and graceful curves, the ship is both a tribute to Viking engineering and a symbol of their adventurous spirit.
Together, the longhouse and ship form a compelling open-air museum, accessible year-round and free to explore. They’re not just static displays—they’re immersive storytelling tools, anchoring Unst’s identity in its Norse heritage. Whether you’re tracing the footsteps of settlers or marveling at maritime design, these reconstructions offer a tangible connection to a time when Unst was a frontier of Viking ambition.

Saw a wonderful exhibition of his work in Florida a few months ago, and watched a documentary about him last week. This just happened, was not thinking of Escher at all when I did it.
Cedar Falls, located in Hocking Hills State Park, Ohio, is actually two falls in the same location. I refer to them as the main falls and the secondary falls. They are fed by water runoff so it's best to visit in the spring or fall if the rainfall is above average. The main falls flow down a rock surface and spill into a pond which overflows into a pleasant stream. The flume creates a strong volume of water concentrated into a tight waterfall.
