I created this image by overlaying a photo I took of a Hurricane, Lancaster and Spitfire plane, over a field of poppies to remember Armistice Day.
Armistice Day, later known as Remembrance Day in the Commonwealth and Veterans Day in the United States, is commemorated every year on 11 November to mark the armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany at Compiègne, France, at 5:45 am for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front of World War I, which took effect at eleven in the morning—the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918. But, according to Thomas R. Gowenlock, an intelligence officer with the U.S. First Division, shelling from both sides continued for the rest of the day, ending only at nightfall.
The armistice initially expired after a period of 36 days and had to be extended several times. A formal peace agreement was reached only when the Treaty of Versailles was signed the following year.
Remembrance Day Poppies are a symbol of respect and remembrance of those who died in World War I. This poppy flower meaning came about because the the field poppy, hardy yet delicate, was a common part of the landscape on the Western Front during the Great War. After being heavily bombed and scarred, the land did not lend itself to growing much. In his famous poem, “In Flanders Fields,” Canadian-born John McCrae wrote about this pretty red flower that grew over the graves of those who had given the ultimate sacrifice and that beautified the devastated countryside.

CHEF dsm8954 says, "Many folks are very concerned about the future with all that is currently going on. If we could, it might be a good idea to freeze time to take stock of the situation. Well that’s what we’re going to do. Your assignment, if you decide to accept it, is this ..."
➤ Create a still life containing at least five items that make you happy.
➤ A photo of at least three of those items – set up and photographed in place by YOU – will form the basis of the still life. (Other items may be added digitally.)
➤ One object in your still life must include an image from your photostream (though none of the objects depicted in this image count as separate items in the still life). This can be added in setup or post processing.
➤ A grid of some sort should be integrated into your still life image (checkerboard, plaid pattern, honeycomb, chicken wire, whatever, but not simply parallel lines). This can also be done in setup or post processing.
➤ NO ELECTRONICS WITH SCREENS, including readout screens, like on a microwave. (Other kinds of electronics are okay.)
NOTES: I bought the metal tree sculpture many years ago and it's one of my favorite things. All the other objects in the foreground are natural – eucalyptus bark, various leaves, etc. – that I collected a few years ago when I was doing mixed media/collage work.
Since I created my Flickr a little over a year ago I've had a lot of people tell me a lot of things about myself. A lot of people have told me I'm a strong person, but I wonder if I'm as strong as other people think that I am. I've been through a lot in life, some of which I've shared, a lot of which I haven't, and I'm not sure at the time I handled all of it as good as I would today, so am I really strong or am I just resilient? You can't always control what comes your way, but some things you can, and what if my life's been harder because of choices I made to not help it be easier?
A lot of people have told me I'm compassionate. I do believe this to be true, but people don't know the full extent of me. I'm nice to people yes, I go out of my way to fulfil other people's lives, but there's little things I do too that show no empathy at all. I don't sort out recycling anymore, at all. I really, really, hate cleaning to the point I almost refuse to do it entirely. I lose patience sometimes with my daughter when she's telling me something I just completely don't understand. "Mommy I want to go to the dragon slide store." For the love of God, I don't know what the dragon slide store is, and hearing it repeated 36 times isn't going to make something click!
I find it hard to take compliments sometimes because you just see what I want you to see, I know the real me, and I know sometimes I'm just like everyone else that sucks. Am I really that great of an artist like people tell me, or am I just a thirsty bitch getting naked to get your attention? I'm not even sure if I know that answer sometimes. I just don't always see in myself what you may see in me.
My next set I'll be starting next week I'll be telling a story that's very personal to me. It's not going to be fiction, but rather take you back to a time in my life that formed who I would become very early on and take you through a trauma I went through. I want to share it because I want to encourage anyone who goes through something like that to feel like it's okay to talk about it, but also because I've never talked about it openly and fully with anybody, and this is a chance for me to put it out there and move on from it, let it go, while also showing anyone like me that it's okay. I don't know how many shots it will end up being, it will get graphic, it will be uncomfortable, but hey... I tackle the heavy stuff right? There's plenty of other girls who can tell ya about the shoes they're wearing or the song they found online yesterday. We each do our own and bring in our own level of service here, maybe deep psychological shit is mine.

I'm back again with my second entry to this year's Space Jam 2020 contest! This time around entering into the 12x12 category.
Hope the judges aren't bothered by the slight overhang of the tube hanging over the wall.
The build comes from the scene in Iron Man 1 where Tony Stark is creating the Mark1 while under arrest (or something like that) from terrorists. This is my first ever Marvel themed MOC I've done, so I'm glad to reach out to different themes! Expect some more Space Jam 2020 entries in the coming days.
