This is one of the natural features in the Geyser Basin of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, USA. Natural processes created these geysers over thousands and thousands of years.

I took the image hand-held with my former Nikon D300 in September of 2011. I just happened to be viewing some of my Yellowstone images this afternoon and particularly liked natures choice of colors.

Another room in the cave dwelling of the Berber family. It's not the museum, people really live there :)

Jebel Dahar is known for its cave dwellings excavated into the mountainside. Horizontal tunnels carved into the rock serve as rooms. The openings to these are uncovered or covered only by a carpet. Shelves, racks, benches and beds are cut out of the walls. Sometimes further rooms are created which are reached by means of a rope and steps cut in the wall; these are used for storage. The exit door is usually decorated with traditional symbols such as the hand of Fatima or a fish, and is often concealed between rocks and bushes. There is sometimes a nomads' tent and a shelter for animals nearby. The cave dwellings are well adapted to the climate, remaining cool in summer and retaining warmth in winter. Nowadays some of them also have been equipped with electricity and running water. Some families, for a small fee, invite tourists and let them look into their homes.

Dżabal Dahar słynie z mieszkań jaskiniowych wykopywanych w zboczu góry. Poziome tunele wydrążone w skale pełnią funkcję pomieszczeń. Otwory do nich są odsłonięte lub przykryte jedynie dywanem. W ścianach wycina się półki, regały, ławy i łóżka. Czasami tworzy się dodatkowe pomieszczenia, do których można dotrzeć za pomocą liny i schodów wykutych w ścianie; służą one jako magazyny. Drzwi wyjściowe są zazwyczaj ozdobione tradycyjnymi symbolami, takimi jak ręka Fatimy lub ryba, i często ukryte między skałami i krzewami. W pobliżu znajduje się czasem namiot nomadów i schronienie dla zwierząt. Jaskinie są dobrze przystosowane do klimatu, zapewniając chłód latem i ciepło zimą. Obecnie niektóre z nich wyposażone są też w elektryczność i bieżącą wodę. Dużo osób w Matmacie i okolicach wciąż mieszka w takich jaskiniowych domach. Niektóre rodziny, za drobną opłatą, zapraszają turystów i pozwalają im zaglądać do swoich mieszkań.
