This Roman Catholic Neo-Byzantine Church was built by the architect Henri-Jacques in 1864.
The tall bell tower is topped by a belfry which supports a MONUMENTAL statue of the Madonna & Child made of copper gilded with gold leaf.
Notre-Dame de la Garde means literally - Our Lady of the Guard.

This is the SILVER VIRGIN in the UPPER Church with the mosaic-covered NAVE which has an exotic atmosphere tinged with orientalism.

Due to its HEIGHT & CLOSENESS to the coast, the hill became an observation point & landmark for shipping.
In the Middle Ages the hill became a BEACON for shipping.
This was an overcast day ( you can tell by the unretouched sky on left window)
Ranger on full 1200ws outside the balcony on CL, quadra inside CR at 150ws.
The client took the trouble to bring in accessories. Nice touch imho.
