German postcard by Ross Verlag, Berlin, no. 71/5. Photo: Ufa Parufamet. Brigitte Helm, Rudolf Klein-Rogge and Alfred Abel in Metropolis (Fritz Lang, 1927).
German actress Brigitte Helm (1908-1996) is still famous for her dual role as Maria and her double the evil Maria, the Maschinenmensch, in the silent SF classic Metropolis (Fritz Lang, 1927). After Metropolis she made a string of over 30 films in which she almost always had the starring role. She easily made the transition to sound films, before she abruptly retired in 1935.
Alfred Abel (1879-1937), best known as the industrial Fredersen in Fritz Lang's Metropolis, played in over 140 silent and sound films between 1913 and 1938.
Rudolf Klein-Rogge is best remembered as Fritz Lang's Dr. Mabuse and as Lang's mad scientist in Metropolis, but he played many more parts in German cinema.

A graceful ballerina captured mid-leap during a studio photoshoot, wearing a vibrant pink leotard and pointe shoes. Her sheer, flowing fabric trails behind her, creating an ethereal sense of motion and elegance.
Richard Hudson - international set and costume designer best know for his sets of the Lion King, and winner of numerous awards including a Tony and an Olivier.
“Born in Kharkiv, Ukraine into a wealthy Jewish family, Rubinstein was orphaned at an early age. She had, by the standard of Russian ballet, little formal training. Tutored by Mikhail Fokine, she made her debut in 1908. This was a single private performance of Oscar Wilde's Salomé, in which she stripped nude in the course of the 'Dance of the Seven Veils'.
“Sergei Diaghilev took her with the Ballets Russes and she danced the title role of 'Cléopâtre' in the Paris season of 1909, and Zobéide in 'Scheherazade' in 1910. Both ballets were choreographed by Fokine, and designed by Léon Bakst. Her partner in 'Scheherazade' was the great Nijinsky…
“Rubinstein is not considered to be in the top tier of ballerinas; she began her training too late for that to have been a possibility. She did, however, have tremendous stage presence and was able to act. She was also a significant patron and she tended to commission works that suited her abilities, works that mixed dance with drama and stagecraft.” [Source: Wikipedia]
“The famous Russian ballerina will dance, during this season, the “Peri”, the ballet of the composer Paul Dukas, which was to be presented during the last Russian season and which special circumstances forced to postpone. The original Russian painter and decorator, M. Bakst, to whom we owe the magnificent Russian ballet sets, designed for Miss Trouhanova the costume reproduced in our drawing, which, particolored with gold and other precious colors, is strangely and luminously magical.”

Natacha Trouhanova (1885-1956) was a French ballet dancer born in Kiev. She was known for dancing the part of “Salomé” in various Paris productions, including in Richard Strauss’ “Salomé” (1907), and premiered Paul Dukas’ “La Peri” (1912).
She had a well-publicized confrontation with Richard Strauss in 1907, when he refused to let her take a curtain call as Salomé, next to the singer of the part, "as he considered the art of dancing was an inferior one"; she left the production and described the insult in a letter to the press.
She appeared in several French silent films, mostly short films, and she retired from the stage when she married in 1918, but returned in 1921

The director turned to the fashionable topic of virtual reality and computer games. The hero of her film, a game designer played by Konstantin Khabensky, seems to know everything about life and cynically uses the news about the murders of representatives of national and sexual minorities to promote a new toy. However, a meeting with a young activist (Ekaterina Ageeva) changes his view of the world.

The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art hosted its third celebration of Hair Affair: The Art of Hair on Thursday, April 25, 2013. The theme was Time Travel. We volunteered to be one of three photographers/studios to shoot the event. It was fast paced and we had a gap of about 30 minutes to shoot all 15 models. Ended up with about 1 to 2 minutes per model so, as you can see, the lighting never really changed. Everything here was shot in a makeshift studio that we set up in the third floor restaurant named, Fresco.

My 2014 #harshbeautiful portrait of outrageously talented Costume Designer Bobby Soutar - Emmy nominated for assistant costume designer on the Netflix series Wednesday.
Almost 10 years after this portrait was taken, Bobby has just returned to sit for his Psychedelic Portrait (posted alongside)
This was achieved with:

1 very large beauty dish gridded - positioned high behind the sitter to catch their silhouette.

Meet Claire Renaud, Fiber & Leather Artist,
Owner of Costume Gallery, Derry, New Hampshire
"Born in a family of 16, all very artistic,
Claire started to sew when she could
first reach the pedal. She currently
owns a very successful costume
rental business: Costume Gallery
in Derry, NH.
Claire is a juried member of the League
of NH Craftsmen in Fiber and Leather.
She specializes in recycled art.
She is currently concentrating on
making pieces in the ancient art of
boiled leather AKA Cuir Bouilli.
Cuir Bouilli is a manually intensive
procedure and requires many hours
to cut, shape, boil, carve and dye
each piece."
I met Claire during the 86th annual Craftsmen's Fair at the
Mount Sunapee Resort in NH two weeks ago, on August 5th,
and was fascinated by all her handmade leather art pieces.
Even the boot she is holding was one of her treasured creations!
I purchased a uniquely covered Cuir Bouilli rock . . .
