US membership warehouse chain Costco has several locations in South Korea. In the Seoul area, there are four, and among them, this is the only one that is subway-accessible. It is located near Sangbong Bus Terminal, accessed from two subway lines: 7 and Jungang.

This is my first visit to a non-US Costco. It is odd to see a multistory Costco building, which is a necessity due to land being at a premium in Seoul. The ground floor sells non-food items, the basement has food and checkout, and the upper stories are parking.

Shopping at a South Korean Costco is just like shopping at a US Costco. Costco membership from any country is acceptable. South Korean Costco uses Samsung-issued Costco credit cards, as opposed to American Express accepted at US Costco locations; otherwise I must use cash. All signage is bilingual Korean and English. Food selections are slightly different - I can buy jars of kimchi or frozen Thai food. Clothing items come in smaller "Asian sizes" though they are still Kirkland-branded. Brands sold differ slightly too - tires are Kumho in addition to Michelin, for example.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that the onion and ketchup dispensers at the basement food court were made by the same vendor supplying US Costco locations - and the vendor is located in my neck of woods, City of Industry, California.

Expats love shopping at Costco due to its English-language signs, and since they can already use their existing US and Canadian memberships. Even for locals looking for retail work, Costco is a good choice due to competitive wages and its egalitarian US-style hiring policy, without the ridiculous age/gender/marital status restrictions typical of Korean retail jobs.

Costco Wholesale #247 (131,374 square feet)

12121 Jefferson Ave, Jefferson Plaza, Newport News, VA

This location opened on May 12th, 1999; it was originally located here.

South Korean Costco has only three holidays, and they are listed here. Chusok is August 15th on the lunar calendar. (Korean lunar calendar is identical to Chinese lunar calendar.)

Costco is an international stew of faces. Had an hour to kill yesterday whilst the rather international crew in the tire center put some new sneakers on my trusty but none-too-sure-footed steed Zeke. So i went into the food court, sat down and started making people nervous with my sketchpad. You can tell who didn't catch on, who held still long enough and who didn't. One little old lady even got up and went to the other side of the table so she'd be facing away from me. :? Guess she didn't want to be drawn.

And omigosh! i wish i could have taken pictures of the freakin' adorable little Asian girl trying to stuff her little cheeks with pizza!

There's a place in the top story of the parking lot where they have benches overlooking the entrance to Costco. It's an amazing place to people-watch; particularly, you could watch the reciept-markers cursorly go over every person's cart while never doing a god damned thing. Fascinating.

Costco is like a toy store for adults.

Despite a very chilly and overcast morning, today (4/25/15) over 745 volunteer descended upon Bear Creek to work with Clean Bread and Cheese Creek as we removed over 1,221 bags of trash from the park and shoreline!!! This what we believe is the largest cleanup participation in the Dundalk EVER!!! Our incredible volunteer worked from Bear Creek Elementary School (which we were restricted from cleaning behind) to General John Stricker Middle School (which we were restricted form cleaning behind) and Charlesmont Park – the area was nearly spotless!!! We completely filled a 40 yard dumpster of bags filled with bottles, fast food packaging, lawn decorations, pieces of broken furniture, clothing, balls (golf, soccer, baseball, softball, football and more!), plastic bins, Styrofoam, plastic bags and broken sports equipment! In addition to this we removed 3 shopping carts, 3 skateboards, 2 bicycles, a full propane tank, a steel 55 gallon drum and a plastic 55 gallon drum! We could have cleaned much more with so many enthusiastic volunteers but we were unfortunately restricted form cleaning behind any of the three area schools (Bear Creek Elementary School, General John Stricker Middle School, and Charlesmont Elementary School). Volunteers you have outdone yourselves again and we could not be more grateful for all your hard work!!!

612 Volunteer alone arrived from Towson University in 14 school busses and dozens of cars! We also have volunteers from AmeriCorp, American Rivers, St. Timothy’s Schools for Girls, the US Navy, BGE, the US Army, Service Coordination Inc., PSAFC ’05 U9 Boys Soccer Team Pro Soccer Academy Futbol Club, as well as parents faculty and staff of Bear Creek and Charlesmont Elementary Schools and many community members! (If we forgot to mention your group, we apologize, please let us know and we will add them. Thank again everyone for such and wonderful job

And of course we have to thank the American Rivers for donating trash bags, Papa Johns Pizza for donating pizzas, Chesapeake Traders Food Warehouse for donating snacks, Costco for donating a gift card to purchase supplies, Angels for Soldiers for donating snacks, Walmart for donating a gift card to purchase supplies, Chick-fil-A of Eastpoint for donating sandwich coupons and McDonald’s of Wise Avenue for donating money to help purchase supplies. Thank you everyone for all your hard work today and for making an amazing difference for our environment and the community!

They really do sell bulk condoms at Costco like they said in the movie "Knocked Up" during the Summer of 2007. Unfortunately the Costco that I went to only sold one type of condom pack the Trojan-enz. I took this photo with the camera on my LG VX-9900 wireless (cell) phone.
