Trogaspidia is a genus of Velvet Ants, Mutillidae. Despite the common name, that was originated from the wingless female's resemblance to a hairy ant, it is actually a wasp. They are also called Cow Killer due to the extremely painful sting of the female. They are not aggressive but will sting if handled.

These guys were each about 5mm long

From this point on, I left them to copulate in privacy ;-)

With Toads, the copulation period is perfect for photographers: you can shot them at 5 cm and this couple won't move an inch!

Partly mummified rats. found behind two sheets of old Tempex while clearing out shed. ocked together in copulation. The male (left) is still visibly locked inside the female (right) with his baculum) They must have fallen between the sheets (onto a block of wood) while f****** on the ledge above. Was this a death in exctacy, way to go? Or did something much more gruesome take place? Could it be that she died in the fall, and he was somehow trapped, 'locked' into her through some spasm? Did he eat her before expiring himself at long last (she appeared gnawed) or was that decomposition?

The wasp queen is obviously bigger than the male.

During the copulation they were tightly connected and flew around . They changed positions several times.

Diese Wespenpaarung konnte ich an einem schönen Herbsttag beobachten.

Die Wespenkönign ist deutlich grösser als das Männchen.

An ihren Enden verbunden flogen sie herum. 4 bis 5 weitere Männchen umschwirrten das Paar, als es sich in den Blättern niederliess.

Sie wechselten mehrmals die Position. Hier ist das Männchen oben zu sehen.
