So much for privacy! It looks like these grasshoppers really did resent my interruption to their mating. It is definitely the season as these pairs were all over the place, including in the cypress trees as evidenced here...and though they are not particularly attractive, they are certainly interesting.
The issue of privacy is certainly newsworthy today as the debate over national security measures seek balance. And, that's the key, isn't it? Balance! Freedom Park, Naples, FL

The male damselfly grips the female behind her head with the claspers on the tip of his abdomen. He then bends the abdomen forward and deposits sperm on the female’s abdomen who has bent hers forward to pick it up. Mating pairs clinging like this even fly in tandem.
The damselfly penis has a balloon attached at the tip plus two horns and long bristles down the sides.
Depending on the damselfly male’s species he either uses this handy device to scour sperm from inside the female before depositing his own, or he will stimulate her until she ejects the rival’s sperm voluntarily.

I saw them recently and successful mating was performed in the snooker style (one leg on the ground at all times). On the occasion the male just fell off.
A pair of copulating Sandwich terns, Sterna sandvicensis. A Black-headed gull, Chroicocephalus ridibundus, looks on. Brownsea Island, Poole, Dorset, England, UK.
Mating pair of Red Mason Bees (Osmia bicornis). The female emerged from our front door keyhole, where they bred last year. There's been lots of male activity there, waiting for the females to emerge.

Birth, and copulation and death.
That's all the facts when you come to brass tacks:
Birth, and copulation, and death.
I've been born, and once is enough,
You don't remember, but I remember,
Once is enough.
REPTILE!
After a certain photo got posted by someone looking for chew toys for his pups, probably, it so happened that very same day, I wandered into the Chinatown close to my work and found this (see above)
Dried gutted lizard skins, head intact, 2 of them apiece, front-to-front, spread-eagled and flattened by a stick frame.
Never got an answer from the buddy manning the store @ the time. He was only there until the owner got back the next day.
...
I didn't go back there, by the way.

It's probably an aphrodisiac & therefore not recommended as chews for dogs.
A pair copulating in the classic heart-shaped pattern. The male clasps the female behind her head, and she curved her abdomen to pick up the semen from the male. Photographed in Peers Wetland, near Wallaceburg, Ontario.
This copulating pair of moths with one flying forward, the other flying backward was even able to suck nectar at the same time. They remained coupled for at least five minutes, or at least long enough for me to run and get my camera. I would appreciate it if anyone can identify this insect for me. Is this sort of copulating behavior on the wing usual or unusual among other insects?
I came back one hour later and they were still in the same position! Best viewed on Black Large 1024x681 or Original 3008x2000
