CEREZO ROSA, de Pérez Prado
CATALÀ: Prunera de Jardí o Mirabolà.
ENGLISH: Cherry plum or myrobalan plum.
CASTELLANO: Ciruelo mirobolano o ciruelo-cerezo.
ENGLISH
Wild types are large shrubs or small trees reaching 8–12 m (25–40 feet) tall, sometimes spiny, with glabrous, ovate deciduous leaves 3–7 cm (1.5–2.5 inches) long. It is one of the first European trees to flower in spring, often starting in mid-February before the leaves have opened. The flowers are white or pale pink and about 2 cm (0.8 inches) across, with five petals and many stamens. The fruit is an edible drupe, 2–3 cm in diameter, ripening to yellow or red from early July to mid-September. They are self-fertile but can also be pollinated by other Prunus varieties such as the Victoria plum. The plant propagates by seed or by suckering, and is often used as the rootstock for other Prunus species and cultivars.

Lofoten offers quite a rocky landscape with few opportunities of capturing colour and vegetation. Still, if you walk near the fiords you can find some vegetation that might be interesting, so don't forget to try.
Hope you like it, enjoy!

Kongeegen, the King Oak, 1675 years, Jægerspris, Denmark.

ENGLISH
Kongeegen (the King Oak) is a renowned oak tree in Denmark. It grows in Jægerspris Nordskov (Jægerspris North Forest) near Jægerspris, on the island of Sjælland. A scientific investigation in 1965 of the tree's rings indicated that the tree has an estimated age of 1450–1900 years, and may well be the oldest living oak in northern Europe. It probably originally grew in an open meadow, to account for its short trunk and low branching, with other taller forest trees growing up around it subsequently. The taller trees around it are now shading it and slowly killing it. Kongeegen is located in the same forest as Snoegen and Storkeegen.

When in the middle of the winter we always ask ourselves, if only spring can come soon. So we decided to remind you, just a little bit, of how the landscape comes alive and everything starts blooming in spring, like a most waited party after a season of silence.
Hope you like it, enjoy!
