Doubtless those who complained about the ramps in the road works will be heartened to see the quality control messages!

I was challenged to have a go at painting with light. I don't appear to own a torch, but I spotted Amber playing with her flashing light bouncy ball earlier and thought I'd have a go using that. It's the first time I've really tried long exposures on my camera - it was fun! Have to say though it certainly isn't easy controlling where a bouncy ball will bounce...!

I suppose a more tech-savy term would be "interface," a device that enables a programmable thermostat to control a 40 amp contactor. This is temporary, until I have time to build it inside a tidy steel box.

Here is the tracker control system in its deployment configuration – the card is the same size as an Arduino Uno . Socket at left holds the Arduino Pro Mini clone (ATmega328 5V 16Mhz). Socket at right holds the A4988 Stepper Motor Driver Carrier. Single 2-pole screw terminal block, right front, connects to the HOME sensor switch. The pair of 2-pole screw terminal blocks, right rear, connect to the four leads of the stepper motor.

The 6-pin right-angle header on the nearside of the Arduino Pro Mini clone can be connected to a USB-to-Serial converter, but is only used to download programs from a PC onto the Arduino.

Note the 9 VDC battery cap. I intend to power this system from an external power tank, because I plan to add a current hungry, FET-driven, anti-dew heater controller to the empty real estate on the board. However, for the time being, what with the stepper motor being powered at a 0.8% duty cycle, I actually think I can run the tracker for several hours on a standard 9V battery.

Just in case anyone was thinking of lighting a fire here...

My husband said to me that these pelican's are on Cruise control. They move really fast.

We got to watch a valve blowdoown test today. This is the control that throttles the steam through the system -- it's impressively precise.

I went out to the pond to feed the ducks and when I came back I was covered in "hitchhikers." At least that's what we call them.

Magna loves them so I thought what better way to remove them than with her help.
