How powerful is music!

Today I was watching the Live8, and feeling so proud of many people together making pressure on the G8, against poverty in Africa. My heart was there.

There are 130 NGO working in the poor districts now, as CARF does, and this is helped to made the number of the homicides come down 40% in the last 5 years.

That's the good news! We can change things!

> During the Children at Risk Foundation (CARF) project, at the Urban Outcries II

The programme was about small firearms and their consequences for our society.

This military policeman is Carvalho. Some of you maybe remember my set Kid's protest

where I talked about a sad normal think in my country, wich are the common pratice of killing poor people by the military police. A shame.

Military Police Corporation was created in the dictatorship, and when we start the democracy, they were transformed in a suport tp the Civil Police Corporation.

This man, Carvalho is such a precious person for this city, and future. His posture, his way to be envolved with community and the respect that he shows to every person are the first steps to this long road.

You can read more details about him here on CARF's page.

Father-of-four Kahande Kamirimu, aged 82, from Masisi territory, North Kivu, who used to work for the local administration as a housing manager, has been living in Mugunga Camp 1, since April 2012.

He says: “The fighting started at one o’clock in the morning, and we ran that same night. We didn’t wait. I left with my wife and my family, but I have lost many members of my family to the war here.

“Yes – of course I want to go back – but only when there is peace. As long as there are still these groups of armed men fighting each other it is not possible for us to return.

“If I see anyone with a gun – no matter who it is – even if it is my son who is in the army – it makes me feel very uneasy. I know what people with guns do. They can terrorise women, they can steal from people, they can kill people.

“It would be great if we could stop it being so easy for people to buy weapons. As long as anyone can buy a gun whenever they want – and here it doesn’t matter who you are if you want a gun – there will always be insecurity.

“If it is more difficult for people to buy a gun, they will get tired of trying. But while is it so easy, more and more groups will keep growing and fighting.”

I unfortunately damaged the tie rod ball joint rubber cover in the process (I see a tie-rod replacement job in the near future). I didn't care about the control arm ball joint rubber cover, since I was going to replace the control arms. Prying out the control arm rod from the spindle was a biotch!

When the Urban Outcries II finished, Fábio came, and asked me to do a portrait with him beside this military policeman. I was surprised by this moment.

Well this is one not just a policeman, this one is Carvalho, a very special man, wich try to change the image and the common behavior into the military corporation. He is a proud man showing to others policemen that they must be a piece of their own comunity, they must respect and help people as Fábio to change their lifes.

You can read more details about him here on CARF's page.

Spearkers invited from Children at Risk Foundation, CARF ,

were taliking about the consequences of gun fire to society.

.................................................................................................................................................

The NCTC (National Counterterrorism Center) assembled a new set of terrorist attack statistics that provides a more complete - and disturbing - picture of the global terrorist threat. In all, the NCTC found on terrorist incidents in 2004, 6.060 victims who were killed. This means 17 people dying per day in the world.

The UNESCO saids that gun fire killed 550 000 brazilian's people in 24 years,

wich from those, 205.722 killed were youngers.

I made some counts here:

22.916 in a year

62 per day in Brazil

In 2003 alone, there were 39,284 victims, which means an

average of 107 deaths per day.

Control Arms campaigners launched the " Arms without Borders: why a globalised trade needs global controls " report in London today by demostrating how countries can work around existing arms trade rules by supplying components for weapons and machinery that can be used or sold to human rights abusers and countries under arms embargoes.
