Cranes of the Bayhouse building site. Once called The View, a prolonged failure and now rekindled.

The cranes are built by Liebherr, the Litronic sign, refers to the crane's control system: "The crane management system is the centrepiece for precise and reliable crane operation. Litronic from Liebherr is a unique one-system-solution which unites the best technologies available for reliable crane control."

Shot with the Lumix GX9 coupled with the good old Tamron 28-300 D285 lens, using a 'dumb' mount adaptor that doesn't transfer the lens information nor changes the focal range. I shot this one fully zoomed in so the resulting setting is 600 mm. A difference in focal length with the previous pic of 585 mm ;-)

After arriving Shops yard, we spotted our pair of SD45's to be serviced. The leader from Superior was the WC 6513, which started it's career as Burlington Northern 6523 in July 1971 before being retired in January 1986.

The Wisconsin Central picked up the locomotive in December 1987. The locomotive shop outfitted the SD45 with a Q-Tron traction control system that worked exceptionally well on tough grades and heavy trains. The locomotive was named Richard B. Ogilvie in honor of his being the 35th governor of Illinois and trustee for The Milwaukee Road in which he oversaw the sale to the Soo Line railroad.

Trompe Loeil - Capraia Tuscan Estate

Its our biggest prefab yet! The Capraia Tuscan Estate sweeps you away to a beautiful Italian retreat, crafted in timeworn brick and plaster. The expansive front courtyard patio is hugged by the entrances to the east and west wings of the estate, tiled in marble and concrete, with marble block planters in each corner - we include removable plants with color change trees! Enter the double height open atrium, and choose to pass through to the back courtyard (also with planters and east/west wing entrances), or explore each wing of the estate through the double arched doors. We include two different interior layouts for you - an 8 room private layout or a 7 room private layout - but each interior wall section is easily removable (no shadow lines!) and allows you fantastic interior layout flexibility. Choose to have two huge open rooms if you wish - its up to you! Auto-open locking doors, exterior lights, and privacy windows with our *home control system round out the features. Grab the optional Snow Add-On for a winter celebration to fit the entire family! Land Impact varies from 373 to 442 depending on layout model and plant options, and footprint is 48 meters by 34.4 meters.

Every year in the rainy season of south Louisiana, there is usually a conversation or debate as wether to open the Morganza Flood Control Structure. Completed in 1954, the flood control system stretched out at an impressive 127 steel gates over 4,159 feet in length. Controlled by the US Army Corp of Engineers, it has only been opened twice in its storied history (1973 and 2011). The Morganza Spillway separates the overflowed banks of the Mississippi River from the Atchafalaya Basin. The Kansas City Southern Railway track speed over the structure is 40mph. OKCCPBR.

The wetlands also feature three ponds. They're actually part of the flood control system but make the wetlands look even better. And they provide nice progress markers especially for runners. We have creative names for them all: first pond, second pond, and third pond. Here, you're looking at ... #etbtsy

Spooky shapes seem to haunt this starry expanse, drifting through the night in the royal constellation Cepheus. Of course, the shapes are cosmic dust clouds faintly visible in dimly reflected starlight. Far from your own neighborhood on planet Earth, they lurk at the edge of the Cepheus Flare molecular cloud complex some 1,200 light-years away. Over 2 light-years across the ghostly nebula known as vdB 141 or Sh2-136 is near the center of the field. The core of the dark cloud on the right is collapsing and is likely a binary star system in the early stages of formation.

Although these old Skoda locos have an obsolete drive and controlling system, their shock absorbers are terrible, and honestly they are rolling coffins thanks to the low-cost reinforced synthetic resin locomotive cabinet, which is a bad joke at a collision, I wanted to catch this loco because of its lovely design. The blue Lamina arrived to Rákospalota with a 29 carrier long coal train from Štúrovo. The carriers weighed more than 2200 tonnes in total, so our Lama got a pusher loco which helped the freight on its way to Dunaújváros.

Photography needn't be expensive. Some wrapping paper from a Christmas present, the kitchen sink, and a dripping tap! I would love a drop control system but really can't afford to splash out! This one was micro seconds away from a collision which could have been much more special.

Explanation: A bright spiral galaxy of the northern sky, Messier 63 is about 25 million light-years distant in the loyal constellation Canes Venatici. Also cataloged as NGC 5055, the majestic island universe is nearly 100,000 light-years across, about the size of our own Milky Way. Known by the popular moniker, The Sunflower Galaxy, M63 sports a bright yellowish core and sweeping blue spiral arms, streaked with cosmic dust lanes and dotted with pink star forming regions. This deep exposure also reveals an enormous but dim arc extending far into the halo above the brighter galactic plane. A collaboration of professional and amateur astronomers has shown the arc to be consistent with the stellar stream from a smaller satellite galaxy, tidally disrupted as it merged with M63 during the last 5 billion years. Their discovery is part of an increasing body of evidence that the growth of large spirals by cannibalizing smaller galaxies is commonplace in the nearby Universe. MÁV-Start launched its public procurement procedure for 115 new electric locomotives in February 2020. The result was announced two years later, in 2022, and the winner was Siemens with its Vectron locomotives. The contract was signed in the same year. But in May of the following year, Lázár János, Minister of Construction and Transport, cancelled the order for political reasons, and the government no longer expects Siemens to help with the renewal of their locomotive fleet. As is known, the expansion of the Paks nuclear power plant is currently underway, the control system of which was to be supplied by Siemens, but the German government did not give permission to the Siemens company to participate in the project with Russian participation due to the invasion of Ukraine. Then the twist came in 2023, when MÁV announced: they will lease 24 piece of Siemens ES64U2 locomotives from Akiem through MÁV Rail Tours, and by the end of 2024, there was growing talk that the railway company had not given up on Vectrons, however, not by purchase, but by renting. The numbers were about 20-30 pieces and ELL was chosen as the lessor by MÁV officials. The first locomotives (193 210, 193 214, 193 216, 193 227, 193 230, 193 723) arrived in Hungary in the second half of January 2025, where they received the current State Railways livery and were prepared for passenger services. On February 2025 the locos were put into service, mainly on the Budapest - Miskolc and Budapest - Békéscsaba lines. The picture shows the 193 214 running between Mende and Sülysáp stations (HU) on 17 February 2025, with the IC 78 “Muntenia” from Bucharest to Budapest.

*Photo taken with a high tripod.

After dinner tonight, I ran back by the UP to see if I could grab a shot of the MHNTP, and boy, did I!

I was interested in it, as I had previously seen it with this FRESH GE C44ACM rebuild on the point, and after receiving permission into the Topeka yard, they stopped at CPZ 068 to work out their route into the yard. This relatively brief pause allowed me this great blue hour view of an engine that will likely never be this clean again.

The 6340 was built in 1995 as the SP 305, and received its first coat of Armour Yellow in the 2016/17 neighborhood. As per the Diesel Shop ( www.thedieselshop.us/UP.HTML ), the "C44ACM modernization program includes updates to the control system software equivalent to current generation of Evolution Series software, and installation of new auxiliary and blower cabs. Additional shutters are added on the radiators and the FDL prime mover is rebuilt. Rebuilt by GE/Wabtec at both Erie, PA and Ft. Worth, TX. Units retain existing numbers after going through modernization program."

Originally built as UP 3390 in April 1977, this snoot-nosed locomotive spent many years as part of the unending parade of SD40-2's running for Union Pacific on the Overland Route. The "snoot" nose describes that this locomotive was delivered with a longer than normal nose (116" instead of the 81" shorter nose). The extra length was intended to hold Locotrol RC equipment, a predecessor to DPUs. However, UP's experiments with Locotrol were ultimately unsuccessful. Only SD40-2's delivered between 1974 and 1978 received the snoot nose, but few if any actually had the RC equipment installed. About a quarter of UP's present-day roster of SD40's have the snoot nose.

As it got older, UP 3390 was selected as part of UP's SD40-2 Modernization Program at North Little Rock. It received a new cab, new control system, new wiring, PTC, a remanufactured engine, and reconditioned components (generator, traction motors, air compressor, air brake equipment, etc). The locomotive was released in February 2011 from rebuild as UP 1600, having kept its snoot nose.

It's worth noting that while this locomotive is identical to the rest of UP's SD40N fleet, UP didn't start using the SD40N model designation until July 2011 with UP 1629. UP 1600 was released and marked as an SD40-2, though after the SD40N designation was adopted all previous rebuilds (including UP 1600) were re-designated SD40N within UP's computer system.

Here, UP 1600 rests at small Basin Yard on the east side of Houston. No longer in main line freight service, it still sees lots of work in yard & local service around the Bayou City.

Troopers from a Mobile Air Operation Team from the UK's Joint Helicopter Support Squadron prepare to attach an underslung load to an RAF Chinook HC.6A during exercise Vortex Warrior 2018. Étang de Vaccarès is a lake, or rather; a salt water lagoon (étang), in the wetlands of the Camargue in the delta of the River Rhône in southern France.

The lake has an area of 65 km², and the depth is less than two meters. It is the northernmost, and also the largest of the lakes of the Camargue, and constitutes the principal element in the water control system of the Rhône delta, which depends upon a strict management of water resources, through pumping, irrigation and draining stations making a complex network of channels throughout the river delta.

The lake is also an important place for rest and food for migratory birds, and it also has a population of the greater flamingo.[1] Because of its importance for wild birds, the Étang de Vaccarès with its surrounding wetlands has been protected as a nature reserve since 1927, and in 1972 it was incorporated into the Parc Régional de Camargue.

Even though the lake is «protected», it is nevertheless exposed to the repercussions of pollution from the large industrial parks nearby, and runoff from the surrounding agricultural areas. Studies show that fish from the lake contains significant levels of contamination.

And the bottom is a continuation of the stone ridge, with a shelf that goes into the depths of the sea.

For more than a year, the entire crew of the ship could not go on land, they only had to observe the beach life.

The natives of Inal Bay were very happy with this event, as their small village became very popular for tourists. The entire season literally flooded the beach, local residents from neighboring settlements quickly oriented themselves in the current situation and organized paid excursions, traders spontaneously appeared with everything that was needed and unnecessary. The locals were very pleased with the sights that appeared, all thanks to human stupidity and carelessness.

How did such an accident with a dry cargo ship happen?

The steamer went, completely without ballast, to the port of Tuapse. In the evening, the weather began to deteriorate and a storm began. The ship's control system crashed, and the captain and part of the crew, according to unconfirmed reports, were drunk.

The fact is that a ship with a displacement of 20,000 tons was thrown out in a place where the depth is less than a meter. The result - the ship was thrown ashore. The crew of the dry cargo ship Transbora, in the amount of 21 people, refused to help and were in an illegal position for a long time.

The company that owned the cargo ship Transbora threatened to refuse to pay salaries to Turkish sailors if they decide to leave the ship. At first, they decided to remove the ship from shallow water with two tugboats, but this operation was not crowned with success.

The local population organized help for the Turkish sailors in the form of hot cakes, churchkhela, water, all this was delivered to the Turks on deck, with the help of a bucket, which they lowered down to the shore. A year later, the sailors were taken home from the ship.

Some enterprising locals wanted to organize an entertainment center or a restaurant on the Transbora ship, but in the end, in 2009, the ship was cut into scrap metal. It's a pity.

Cargo

Bulk Carrier

The Burlington Model Railway Club (BMRC) includes men, women, and families from Burlington and the surrounding area who share the common interest of model railroading, in N scale, HO scale, and/or G scale. Our skill levels vary from "beginner" to "expert."

BMRC was established in the early 1980's as an HO scale modular club. Currently, BMRC members own and operate model railways in three different scales.

We're organized in three Divisions: HO, with a large layout containing both new and established sections, and a Digitrax DCC control system. The N Division is under active construction, and the G Division operates as an outdoor garden railway in the warmer months with both track power and battery powered rolling stock. Many members bring their personally-owned equipment to operate on these layouts (check with the Division Superintendent for technical details) and many also have model railroad layouts in their homes or gardens, but you need not own model railway rolling stock to participate in the activities at BMRC.

The Ashton House is a two-story Georgian home with an open space concept in the main living area. The master bedroom is located on the first floor and features a fireplace and access to the large back porch. There are a total of 4 bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor which can also be used as an office or den. There is a cute bonus room on the second floor with a dormer window. This space could also be used as a smaller bedroom, maybe a nursery.

The home includes the Home Control system with which you can control security, lock doors and change the textures throughout the home. Each room has an option of 6 color choices. The brick exterior has 4 color options and the floors have 3 color choices.

Explanation: Follow the handle of the Big Dipper away from the dipper's bowl until you get to the handle's last bright star. Then, just slide your telescope a little south and west and you might find this stunning pair of interacting galaxies, the 51st entry in Charles Messier famous catalog. Perhaps the original spiral nebula, the large galaxy with well defined spiral structure is also cataloged as NGC 5194. Its spiral arms and dust lanes clearly sweep in front of its companion galaxy (right), NGC 5195. The pair are about 31 million light-years distant and officially lie within the angular boundaries of the small constellation Canes Venatici. Though M51 looks faint and fuzzy to the eye, deep images like this one can reveal striking colors and the faint tidal debris around the smaller galaxy (text: apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap150502.html)

When processing of the image I decided to apply the drizzling (2x increase in each frame) in Pixinsight when integrating photos in each channel. I think it will allow for greater detail elements of the galaxy.

Also apply deconvolution L channel and the hydrogen is added to RGB.

IC 1396 is a large emission nebulae, a region of ionized gas, located in the constellation Cepheus about 2,400 light years away from Earth.

IC 1396 is illuminated and ionized by a very bright, massive multiple star HD 206267 at its center, except for dense globules that can protect themselves from the star's harsh ultraviolet rays. This hierarchical triple star system has two members that form a spectroscopic binary that orbit each other with a period of 3.7 days, while a third member lies further away—it is unclear whether this third member is gravitationally bound to the pair. The system is emitting a stellar wind that reaches an exceptional velocity of 3,225 km/s, among the highest measured for stars of this type.

Jutting from the rim of the nebula is IC 1396A, commonly called the Elephant's Trunk Nebula, a dark, dense globule with a bright, sinuous rim being illuminated by HD 206267.

According to the U.S. Embassy to China, the country will be building 108 new airports between 2004 and 2009 -- including what will be the world's largest: the Beijing International Airport, designed by Foster & Partners. Set to open at the end of 2007, in time for the Beijing Olympics in 2008, the airport terminal will cover more than 1 million square meters, giving it a bigger footprint than the Pentagon.

It's designed to handle 43 million passengers a year initially and 55 million by 2015, figures that will probably push the new facility into the ranks of the top 10 busiest airports, going by the 2004 numbers from the Airports Council International. Given the scale and traffic, Foster & Partners focused on the traveler's experience, making sure that walking distances are short, for instance.

Building on Foster's experience designing Hong Kong 's new mega-airport, the massive Chek Lap Kok, the sprawling Beijing terminal is housed under a single roof. To help passengers distinguish between different sections of the vast space, skylights cast different shades of yellow and red light across walls -- a subtle but innovative navigational aid. The architects also kept sustainability in mind: An environmental-control system reduces carbon emissions, and skylights situated on a south-east axis lessen solar heat, keeping the building cool.

Explanation: If not perfect, then this spiral galaxy is at least one of the most photogenic. An island universe of about 100 billion stars, 32 million light-years away toward the constellation Pisces, M74 (NGC 628) presents a gorgeous face-on view. Classified as an Sc galaxy, the grand design of M74's graceful spiral arms are traced by bright blue star clusters and dark cosmic dust lanes. Spanning about 30,000 light-years across the face of M74, it includes exposures recording emission from hydrogen atoms, highlighting the reddish glow of the galaxy's large star-forming regions. This is the last passenger aircraft I flew as a professional pilot, between 2008 and 2015, where I logged more than 6,000 flight hours, also in the A319 (a shortened version of the A320) and the A321 (a lengthened version of the A320).

I made the transition from the great MD80, and this A320 represented a radical change, as it was the first time I flew an aircraft with a flight control system in which I no longer moved cables, servos, and pulleys, but rather a kind of electronic joystick (a Sidestick, in Airbus terminology) that communicated via fiber optics with the central control system.

It's the "fly by wire" philosophy already applied in other aircraft, such as the Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon.

For all of us, let's say, "conventional" pilots, the transition to the "fly by wire" philosophy was a quantum leap.

We were dealing with Artificial Intelligence, although it didn't yet have that name.

And my conclusion is that it's a very safe airplane, one that continues to evolve with new "system updates," just like any other, to become increasingly safer and more profitable.

I think this flight control system was probably of great help when Captain Chesley Burnett "Sully" Sullenberger III and his co-pilot Jeffrey Skiles had to troubleshoot the failure of both engines after colliding with a flock of birds and landing on the Hudson River in New York City, saving all passengers and crew on January 15, 2009, on US Airways Flight 1549 (AWE1549). (Source: Wikipedia)

As a joke, it's said that an ATC controller asked the crew of an A320 why, even though they were cleared for takeoff, they hadn't yet started the takeoff roll.

The A320 crew replied to the controller that they were trying to solve it...

A Boeing pilot who was at the holding position, being number two for takeoff, said over the radio: "The best thing to do is press CTRL+ALT+DEL and do a hard reset."

(But that's probably an urban legend...)

AIRBUS A320 SERIES, 2025
