The new train contributes to Network Rail’s commitment to reduce its environmental impact, improve sustainability and reduce the cost of running the railway by 20 per cent over the next five years. It could ultimately lead to a fleet of battery-powered trains running on Britain’s rail network which are quieter and more efficient than diesel-powered trains, making them better for passengers and the environment. Network Rail and its industry partners – including Bombardier, Abellio Greater Anglia, FutureRailway and the Rail Executive arm of the Department for Transport (which is co-funding the project) – recognise the potential for battery-powered trains to bridge gaps between electrified parts of the network and to run on branch lines where it would be too expensive to install overhead electrification

The Newlin Grist Mill was built in 1704 with the water wheel on the outside of the building. Sometime after 1817, the mill's water wheel was enclosed on the bottom floor of the mill. A dam on Chester Creek and a half-mile mill race diverted water to power the mill. The water exits underground through a tailrace and travels about 150 yards back to Chester Creek. In 2014, the mill was operational. The mill building is a contributing property of the Newlin Mill Historic District listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Tool and Equipment Building was built by Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) enrollees in 1935 in the Service area of Scenic State Park. Like all CCC built structures in the Public Use Area of the park, the rectangular structure in the Service Area exhibits familiar traits of Rustic style construction, most notable the saddle-notched corners with projecting logs at alternating depths, terminating in chiseled ends. The Rustic style was often employed by the National Park Service who oversaw construction of facilities at state and National Parks where CCC enrollees worked.
The building contains one garage stall as well as storage space.
The Tool and Equipment Building is in the Scenic State Park CCC/Rustic Style Historic Resources- Service Area, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is a contributing structure. (Source: National Register of Historic Place Registration Form No. 92000595)
