After exploring White Pocket for a few hours in the middle of the day, I went back to the jeep for a rest and a bite to eat. In the meantime high cirrus clouds moved in, so when I went out photowalking again towards sunset the light was soft.
Dead and decaying branch from a eucalyptus tree I dug up three years ago. I left it to encourage organisms, lichen, fungi, insects etc of all sorts to use it as a home.

The Terschelling drowning house used to be a rescue operation for stranded skippers on the eastern part of the island. The castaways could then shelter in this house in bad weather. It was a very crucial place, as the sea around Terschelling could and can be very rough, so it was very common that there were shipwrecks in this area. The stranded sailors could spend the night in the house until the storm passed.
This photo was taken after a lonely and long walk on the Boschplaat in the evening. There are also tours to this place, but it doesn't do justice to the scenery when there are busloads of people wandering around. Going alone also had the advantage that there is more time to walk around and take more pictures from different angles.

The front range of the Allegheny Mountains is the highest ridge in the distance.
Situé à environ 1500 mètres d'altitude, le hameau des Gourniers est constitué de quelques maisons tout au bout de la D41 puis 241 qui monte depuis le pont de Savines (789 mètres). Il est rattaché à la commune de Réallon.
Depuis cette chapelle à la sortie du hameau, un sentier monte, souvent en surplomb, en suivant le cours du torrent, pour atteindre la chapelle Saint-Marcellin (1733m) perchée sur un petit replat dans un cadre somptueux. Plus haut le sentier vire à angle droit en traversant le torrent de Serre Reyna sur une petite passerelle de bois, et rejoint la cabane du Pré d'Antoni. Le pré est un peu en amont, mais ici la nature s'ingénie à peupler de fleurs les espaces entre les rochers, alors que gronde l'eau du torrent de Chargès qui bondit de cascade en cascade. Le sentier encore bien marqué mais plus étroit suit alors le cours de la rivière, Est-Sud-Est, avec dans l'axe le sommet enneigé de la Pointe de Serre (2909 mètres) qui contraste par son aspect presque hivernal avec l'adret, ses éboulis secs ou plus loin ses pâturages déjà couverts de fleurs. Traversé un ravin aux eaux bouillonnantes et aux multiples cascades sur une autre passerelle, le sentier s'élève rapidement en serpentant dans des prés magnifiquement fleuris -- ici les gentianes au bleu violacé constituent parfois un véritable tapis -- ; devenu une sente de terre il se glisse téméraire au sommet de grands rochers verticaux pour franchir des à-pic au-dessus du torrent de Chargès. Selon sa fantaisie mais globalement poussant à l'Est, la sente offre tantôt un coup d'oeil à bâbord sur les sauts impressionnants du torrent, et tantôt par tribord retrouve le plancher des vaches ou des brebis -- au sens propre -- et contemple les sommets du Mourre Froid (2993 mètres) qui semble maintenant très proche. Une dernière oblique sur le flanc d'un grand talus, puis on redresse alors que la pente calme son jeu sur un large replat herbeux en douce montée, et laisse apparaître la longue silhouette de la cabane de Chargès ; le toit d'abord, son large rebord peint dans un gris semblable aux roches de la montagne, puis les murs de grosses pierres solidement cimentées, étayés de contreforts musclés, les portes de bois ou de métal, les fenêtres tenues hermétiquement closes par des volets eux aussi métalliques. Appuyée contre le mur, faite de planches grossièrement assemblées, un peu asymétrique peut-être pour laisser couler les pluies, une niche montre encore un peu de paille défraîchie. De chien, point. De troupeau, point. Point de berger non plus. Seul un écriteau informe : "Cabane de Chargès 2206 m." Juste en-dessous : "Cabane pastorale" et cette injonction : "Respectez l'espace de vie du berger".
Au coeur austère de ce massif, si les fleurs basses s'empressent de s'épanouir en cette fin de mai, si certaines marmottes ont commencé leur terrassement, l'herbe est particulièrement rase encore, d'un vert tout neuf, qui attend un plus franc soleil.
Mais le soleil, précisément, se voile de grands nuages blancs aux contours de feu qui étalent leur ombre sur les neiges de l'ubak, les assombrit, rident le sourire de cette journée que la météo a prévue radieuse. Des sursauts de vent préviennent : il est temps de redescendre.
The Mesquite Flat Dunes are located near Stovepipe Wells within Death Valley National Park. The low angle light at dawn creates long shadows to enhance the texture, ripples, curves and contours of the dunes.
The church has been delivered to the museum from Kysorychi village in Rokytnivskyi district of Rivnenska Region. It was built by local masters at the end of 18th Century. According to M. Teodorovych, its tops were changes in 1871, and it became one-domed instead of three-domed. Reports of Emperor’s archeological expedition witness that at the beginning of 20th Century (in 1909) the church had to be dismounted due to its emergency state. Although, it was not broken down due to high artistic value of its iconostasis. The iconostasis did not survive until nowadays, except for only four fragments of a unique hewn altar.
As of the moment of purchase there of by the museum in 1978, there were no domes at all. In this connection, they have been re-made according to Polissia typology. The reconstruction was headed by the author of Polissia display, Vergovskyi S.V., inasmuch contours of old ones remained unknown.
This is a religious building; its dimensions are 15.9 x 7.3 m; total area: 116.07 square meters.
This is a building of three rooms, built of pine-tree timbers. The walls are fixed with halving cutouts, made in upper parts of the timbers. The square aisle of the church is its smallest room (4.9 x 4.9), the nave is also square and the biggest one (7.3 x 7.3); the altar room is also almost square (5.3 x 5). The central part is the widest one; its walls extend beyond the side timbers. The church is not covered with planks. The all three floors thereof are tent-shaped. The whole construction is supported by oak piles vidzemky, imbedded around the perimeter.
The premises of the church house a permanent exposition “Religion antiques of Ukraine”. It displays the pieces of arts: icons, triple candleholders, sculptures, church’ bowls of 18th – 20th Century.
Церква Воскресіння Ісуса Христа - Воскресенська церква з села Кисоричі, Рокитнівського району Рівненської області, 1789 рік.
До музею церква перевезена з Рівненської області, Рокитнівського району, село Кисоричі. Вона споруджена місцевими майстрами. Датується кінцем ХVІІІ ст.
Належить до архаїчного типу, поширеного на Поліссі — тризрубна, завершена трьома шатровими розділами з невеликими маківками.
За М. Теодоровичем її верхи були змінені у 1871 р. і церква з триверхої стала одноверхою. З повідомлень імператорської археологічної комісії випливає, що вже на початку ХХ ст. (у 1909 р.) церкву цю хотіли розібрати у зв’язку з аварійним станом. Однак, через високу мистецьку цінність її іконостасу церкву залишили цілою. На сьогодення іконостас не зберігся, а до наших днів дійшли лише чотири фрагменти унікального рубленого престолу.
На момент купівлі музеєм у 1978 р. верхи в ній були відсутні. У зв’язку з цим вони були заново виконані за поліською типологією під керівництвом автора експозиції «Полісся» Верговського С.В., оскільки абриси старих лишилися невідомими.
Культова споруда. Габаритні розміри: 15.9 х 7.3 м. Загальна площа: 116.07 м2.
Будівля у плані трикамерна, зведена з соснового кругляка. При спорудженні зрубу застосована врубка «в чашку», драчка вибрана у верхніх частинах колод. Квадратний у плані бабинець церкви найменший за розмірами (4,9 х 4,9 м.), нава також у плані квадратна – найбільша за розмірами (7,3 х 7,3 м.), вівтар у плані чотирикутний (5,3 х 5 м.).
Центральна частина по ширині найбільша і виступає стінами за бічні зруби. Церква не шальована. Три її верхи шатрового типу. Уся споруда тримається на дубових стоянах-відземках, закопаних по периметру у землю.
У приміщенні церкви експонується постійно діюча виставка «Церковні старожитності України» в якій експонуються твори мистецтва: ікони, троєсвічники, скульптури, церковні карнавки ХУІІІ-ХХ ст.
Cet oiseau est absolument inconfondable avec ses joues, son cou et sa huppe blanc pur qui contrastent fortement avec le bleu-noir violacé brillant des lores, du front, du devant du capuchon et du contour des yeux. Les touracos à huppe blanche fréquentent les galeries forestières qui longent les rivières et les cours d'eau. On les trouve également dans les savanes arborées, particulièrement dans les endroits où ils y a abondance de plantes grimpantes ou de feuillage. Les touracos à huppe blanche nichent en août au Nigéria, en mai en République Centrafricaine, à partir d'avril au Zaïre et en mai-juin en Ouganda.

I was becoming rather disappointed with the lack of color in the clouds, when it dawned (pun intended) on me that the light in the mountains might be special. Sure enough, the longer lens revealed various nuances playing about in the hills.
The morning light was yellow and brilliant. The clouds were still lingering on the hillside. The water had remained quite still, albeit effected by ocean tides. A silhouette had taken shape in the form of a small island. And mountain peaks gave way to rounded contours.
This photo shows the decorated ceiling beneath the main dome of Santa Maria Maggiore in Bergamo’s Città Alta, captured while I was lying on the church floor. The image centered the octagonal structure and its surrounding frescoes, revealing the symmetry and detail of the dome. The perspective emphasized the full layout of the artwork as it rose directly above me.

Death Valley has the most feature, shape-rich topography of anywhere I've seen. Here, the various lumps, bumps, and contours appear to be melting into the the valley floor, like a large glop of fudge exposed to too much heat.
