Huge cross, Altinho Panaji

Even the American Consulate (Embassy? or whatever the heck it is) is anti-picture. After several stern warnings from a youth with an AK-47, I had to shoot from the hip while boarding our bus.

‘The Political Reporter’ is a new media installation by Boone, NC-based artist Mark Nystrom that generates random, but intriguing statements with words found on political websites and in the media. Sources include the Obama and Romney presidential campaigns, the Democratic and Republican parties, bloggers and the news media.

‘The Political Reporter’ animates a cloud of letters and periodically makes statements. These images are screen grabs taken while ‘The Political Reporter’ was running on Election Day and the day after.

Letters from words gathered from conservative sources are colored red and ones from liberal sources are blue. ‘The Political Reporter’s’ vocabulary includes over 70,000 words, but only 300 appear on the screen at any given time. As words are used to make statements, they are replaced by randomly chosen new ones from the list of 70,000.

Hundreds of guests from across Western Australia's business, government, science, education, community and other sectors joined the U.S. Consulate General Perth to celebrate the 243rd Independence Day. The theme was the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing. Thank you to special guests WA Governor Kim Beazley, WA Premier Mark McGowan, WA Opposition Leader Liza Harvey and Wildcats legend Ricky 'Amazing' Grace, along with everyone else who joined us for the celebrations!

The real British Consulate is now silently laid behind.

On November 10-12, Policy Chief Elena Augustine and Management Officer Somer Bessire-Briers travelled to the town of Exmouth in WA’s North West. Formerly a U.S. defense town, they met with U.S. Air Force personnel stationed at Learmonth Solar Observatory, toured Harold E. Holt Naval Communication Station, spoke with students at Central Regional TAFE, and also met with local government and business leaders. They were also privileged to attend the Shire of Exmouth’s Remembrance Day Service, which was also U.S. Veterans Day.

The second paragraph is a bit snarky, with good reason.
