This abandoned farmhouse stands in the rural Speedwell community near Cullowhee in Jackson County, North Carolina.
Constructed circa 1910, the house features elements associated with the Folk Victorian and Craftsman architectural styles.
I was told by neighbors that it was never fully completed by the Shelton family that built it, and has been unoccupied since the 1970s.
Over time, the house became overgrown as it deteriorated, while the yard became littered with debris and junk. The tin roof was ripped off by storms, allowing rainwater to freely enter the structure, accelerating its decay.
The overgrown yard was cleared a few years ago, which allowed me to take these photos.
The owners, whom live in a smaller home behind this one, have erected an electric fence around it, and are keeping goats inside the enclosure.
Upon closer inspection, I was surprised to see belongings of previous residents, including furniture, appliances, as well as decorative elements like wallpaper and curtains, remaining after decades of neglect, both inside the house and on the front porch.

There is a terrific display in the nearby Gippsland Regional Maritime Museum of the equipment that was associated with this building. Details at yarrampa.customer.netspace.net.au/pamm.html
"Construct" is a temporary process that exists for a while and finally transforms itself into an end "product": A building, a culture, a society, an idea, a freedom, a dogma, etc... Construction sites can be conceived as stages where this never-finishing process is being "performed"; over and over. The inherent incompleteness within the constructing act pushes us to dream; on the other hand, a completed product looses its narrative potential as it informs us on all the necessary pieces that constitute the whole: There is no puzzle to solve or no story to write... Construction sites, in this sense, are like historical ruins; Paul Zucker asserts that "Devastated by time or willful destruction, incomplete as they are, ruins represent a combination of man-made forms and of organic nature." As a tribute to and resting on this statement, the more incomplete the "construct" is; the more organic life gets, the more surprises and the less boundaries we have...
My carpenter friend and I wanted to understand heddles, so we built some out of some rubber bands he had in his shop. They don't work great but they do work.

With a "red-set" in the background stabled in the car yards, a Johnsonville-bound DM unit starts the climb towards the first tunnel.
Sharp curves and (6) tunnels are a feature of this line, which was the original route out of Wellington heading to the north, unitil the more direct long tunnel was constructed as part of the North Island Main Trunk's access to Wellington in 1937. Upon completion of this scheme the "old line" was truncated at Johnsonville and it became the first electrified part of the Wellington suburban system using multiple-units constructed by the English Electric Company in Great Britain.
The temple dedicated to the goddess Meenakshi (called Meenakshi Amman Temple) in the city of Madurai, in the state of Tamilnadu is the second largest temple in South India and arguably the best in architecture & decorations. The present temple was constructed by the Nayak King Tirumalai (1623-1655 A.D.) over the partially damaged older temple which dates from Before Christ era.
The smallest construction equipment I've ever seen. I'm not sure what advantage the wee one on the left has over a manual shovel.
