Casa Loma (Spanish for Hill House) is a Gothic Revival style house and gardens in midtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada, that is now a museum and landmark. It was originally a residence for financier Sir Henry Mill Pellatt. Casa Loma was constructed over a three-year period from 1911–1914. The architect of the mansion was E. J. Lennox, who was responsible for the designs of several other city landmarks. 221

This was another shot, where I have to hide myself from bird nest. She was keep coming and checking the spot for any invaders, finally I walked away when she was hovering above and came back after she left and hide behind trees and vegetation. I was merely 20 feet from the nest, thank god that I had zoom with me, otherwise it would be very difficult to keep the whole action in frame. Well, it was worth the effort!

The building is intentionally reminiscent of the United States Capitol. Designed by Elijah E. Myers, it was constructed in the 1890s from Colorado white granite, and opened for use in November 1894. The distinctive gold dome consists of real gold plate, first added in 1908, commemorating the Colorado Gold Rush. The building is part of Denver's Civic Center area.

So High, I Could Touch The Sky...

Here is another one from my recent walk toi shoot some of the architecture in the Mississauga.

I do love modern architecture. These two towers caused quite a controversy when they were first built. Some loved them and some hated them. I am on the love them side of the equation. They have been called the Marilyn Munroe Towers due to its curvaceous, hourglass figure likened to actress Marilyn Monroe. Burka Varacalli Architects, a Toronto firm constructed the five tower complex , but they are actually called the Absolute World Towers.

In the Spring of 1998, a team of 440 Chinese artists and artisans from Suzhou constructed the garden. It opened in June of 1999. The five design elements of a Chinese Garden incorporated are water, plants, architecture, rocks and tracery windows.

These are all inlaid stones (sorry for the light/shade contrast issues).

Constructed between 1883 and 1884 the cliff lift in Saltburn is the oldest water-balance cliff lift in the United Kingdom.

Motif Number 1, located on Bradley Wharf in the harbor town of Rockport, Massachusetts, is a replica of a former fishing shack well known to students of art and art history as "the most often-painted building in America."[1][2] The original structure was built in 1840 and destroyed in the Blizzard of 1978,[1] but an exact replica was constructed that same year.[3]

Built in the 1840s as Rockport was becoming home to a colony of artists and settlement of fishermen, the shack became a favorite subject of painters due to the composition and lighting of its location as well as being a symbol of New England maritime life. Painter Lester Hornby (1882–1956) is believed to be the first to call the shack "Motif Number 1,"[2] a reference to its being the favorite subject of the town's painters, and the name achieved general acceptance.

Constructed in 1894, the courthouse retains much of its original architectural detail includ- ing stained-glass skylights, decorative tilework, and even light fixtures, furniture, and telephone

booth (a la Superman). To commemorate the building’s centennial, the Auglaize

County Historical Society restored the Statue of Justice, which

formerly stood on top of the tower, but now graces the building’s lobby. You are

more than welcome to visit the courthouse during busi- ness houses—8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through

Friday--but please remember that this is a working building. Court may be in session

Christ the Redeemer (Portuguese: Cristo Redentor, standard Brazilian Portuguese: is an Art Deco statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, created by French sculptor Paul Landowski and built by the Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, in collaboration with the French engineer Albert Caquot. Romanian sculptor Gheorghe Leonida fashioned the face. The statue is 30 metres (98 ft) tall, excluding its 8-metre (26 ft) pedestal, and its arms stretch 28 metres (92 ft) wide.[1][2]

The statue weighs 635 metric tons (625 long, 700 short tons), and is located at the peak of the 700-metre (2,300 ft) Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park overlooking the city of Rio. A symbol of Christianity across the world, the statue has also become a cultural icon of both Rio de Janeiro and Brazil, and is listed as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.[3] It is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone, and was constructed between 1922 and 1931.

Wikipedia: The city of Nan's most famous wat is renowned for its cruciform ubosot which was constructed in 1596 and restored during the reign of Phra Chao Anantaworritthidet (Chao Nakhon Nan No.62nd) (1852-1892).

It is the only temple which was built as if it were on the back of two immense snakes (or Nagas). Each of the four entrances is preceded by a small corridor topped by a finely decorated, point-shaped structure (underlining the royal origin of the temple) and is equipped with smoothly carved doors; with Chinese demon guards in the east, flowers in the north and forest life motives in the Lanna style in the west and south.

The wat's interior is impressive. It is also a good example of Thai Lue architecture. The structure of the roof is supported by twelve teak pillars decorated with gold on black and red lacquer and elephants' motives. The ceiling is also finely decorated. The flowered altar resting in the center of the bôt supports four Buddhas of the Sukhothai style in the pose of Bhūmisparsa mudrā

Well preserved murals of great value illustrating the Khattana Kumara Jataka on the Northern wall and the Nimi Jatakas on the Western wall as well as scenes of the local life of the time when they were painted by Thai Lue artists during the restoration of the temple at the end of the 19th century. Europeans can even be noticed: a reference to the arrival of the French to whom the East of the Nan valley area was yielded in 1893. The style is rather distinctive and quite removed from the traditional style of temple paintings in Thailand.

Alternative shot of the Main Shrine of Izumo Taisha. It is believed to be the residence of the enshrined gods, namely, Ookuninushi and his family members.

Shintou architectures are known to preserve original Japanese architectural traditions better than Buddhist architectures that were influenced by Korean and Chinese architectures. Although half-hidden by the walls, residences for the gods in the compound are constructed as stilt houses with a ladder. In this sense, they resemble the houses by the Yeak Laom Lake.

Architects point out that Japanese houses are designed to be well ventilated in order to be comfortable in humid summer by sacrificing protection against the cold in winter. In my opinion, it would be an influence of the Austroasiatic people, which came with the rice cultivation.

Rice cultivation in Japan started in Kyuushuu Island in the west around the 10th century B.C. and spread nationwide except for northern Honshuu and Hokkaidou by the 3rd century B.C., which roughly coincides with the Austroasiatic expansion. The style of earthen ware had drastically changed as rice cultivation spread.

The National Wallace Monument (generally known as the Wallace Monument) is a tower standing on the shoulder of the Abbey Craig, a hilltop overlooking Stirling in Scotland. It commemorates Sir William Wallace, a 13th-century Scottish hero.

The tower was constructed following a fundraising campaign, which accompanied a resurgence of Scottish national identity in the 19th century. In addition to public subscription, it was partially funded by contributions from a number of foreign donors, including Italian national leader Giuseppe Garibaldi. The foundation stone was laid in 1861 by the Duke of Atholl in his role as Grand Master Mason of Scotland with a short speech given by Sir Archibald Alison.

It was completed in 1869 to the designs of architect John Thomas Rochead at a cost of £18,000, the monument is a 67-metre (220-foot) sandstone tower, built in the Victorian Gothic style.

" The time of war is almost over, now the time to rebuild is come. Well, to build for us, since we lost everything, including our old home. We live since a month now in an old fishing village, surrounded by cliffs and mountains. Yesterday, me and the council decided to call our little town Greyhaven. And that same day, our worked finished the construction of a defensive wall. Everyone has a house now. Greyhaven is ready to expend"

Constructed 1420-1427, one of the oldest extant in Moscow.

The great Russian medieval icon painter Andrei Rublev spent his last years at this monastery and was buried there.

Ireland, Galway - The Cathedral of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven and St. Nicholas

In historical terms The Cathedral is relatively young. Work started in 1958 on the site of an old prison and was complete by 1965. The President Eamon de Valera lit the light of the Sanctuary Candle. The Bishop of Galway, Bishop Michael Browne led four other Bishops to the altar and Cardinal Richard Cushing of Boston delivered the sermon.

There was a parish chapel built circa 1750 on Middle Street and in 1821 this was replaced by a limestone building which was dedicated to St Patrick. In 1831 the diocese of Galway was created and St Patrick’s became the Cathedral until 1965 when Our Lady and St Nicholas took over the mantle. St Patrick’s was then deconsecrated.

The architect was John J. Robinson and the architecture has many influences. There is Renaissance style to the pillars and domes. Christian themes echo throughout the building, windows and mosaics. Built almost completely with local limestone it is thought to be the final stone public building erected in Ireland.

The original organ was built by Rushworth and Dreaper of Liverpool in 1966. This was renovated between 2006-2007 by renowned Irish organ builder Trevor Crowe.

There are three spectacular windows inside the church. Three rose windows designed by George Campbell of Dublin and constructed by the Dublin Glass and Paint Co. They represent fifteen of the twenty mysteries of the Rosary. The other mystery is Why were the other five, (the luminous mysteries) omitted? I have, for some reason only photographed one of the windows: ‘The Glorious Mysteries’ They are:-

The Resurrection of Jesus Christ

The Ascension of Jesus to Heaven

The Descent of the Holy Ghost

The Assumption of Mary into Heaven

Mary is Crowned as Queen of Heaven and Earth

There are many other beautiful windows to see and interiors. Some are lit with a blue light which gives of a wondrous glow. An incredible site and experience.

However the Cathedral is not without controversy. Once called ‘a ghastly monstrosity’, ‘ugly’ and a ‘squatting Frankenstein’s Monster’. It shows you can’t please all the people all of the time, some of the time or just ever.

This is currently the largest monastery in Sershul county, with 1200-1300 monks divided into six colleges, under the guidance of the youthful but charismatic Drukpa Rinpoche. The rain retreat festival held in August is a magnificent spectacle, attracting nomad communities. The hills and grasslands around the monastery are sparse and spacious.

The complex was founded as a branch of Chunkor but soon outgrew the latter. The recently restored buildings at Sershul, which are all near the motor road, include the Tsokchen (assembly hall), the Jamkhang (Maitreya temple), the Gonkhang (protector temple), the Dewachen Lhakhang (Amitabha temple), the Mentsikhang (where Mipham Rinpoche`s tradition is maintained), the college, a Mani Wheel chapel (containing three wheels constructed by the father of the present Drukpa Rinpoche) and a small guesthouse. A new Tsongkhapa Lhakhang, resembling a giant cathedral, has been constructed below the main complex, and was due for completion and consecration on 12 December, 2008. www.footprinttravelguides.com/c/2848/tibet/&Action=pr...

The rectangular courthouse is constructed of locally quarried stone and rises two-stories on top of a full ground floor. The long arched windows line the facade, three on the front and nine on the sides and are separated by a pair of Doric pilasters. The main entrance is flanked by an inner Corinthian column and an outer Corinthian pilaster. The door is located inside a recessed portico and is topped by a fanlight. The flat roof is supported by an entablature with urns on the corners.

Polioptila caerulea

A pair of Blue-gray Gnatcatchers can build up to seven nests in a breeding season. They often re-use nest material from previous nests, which speeds re-nesting. This can be essential to breeding success, since predation, nest parasitism, or mite infestations frequently cause nest loss and brood failure.

The Junior Livestock Building was constructed in 1937 as one of the Great Depression-era federal Works Progress Administration (WPA) projects on the Illinois State Fairgrounds. In 1997, the building was renamed in honor of Orion Samuelson, a retired radio broadcaster who was heard on WGN radio in Chicago for sixty years as the station's head agriculture broadcaster from 1960 through 2020.

This view looking toward the south shows the huge livestock barn. The livestock barn has two levels with 1,100 cattle ties in the lower level and 765 pens in the upper level. Inside are two shows rings of 7,200 and 5,400 square feet.

Another shot of the historic police hut in Arrowtown. Built in 1863 it is the oldest wooden structure in Arrowtown and constructed from pit-sawn red beech. It was originally part of a police camp but the exact use of the building isn’t known. It is said to have been used for storing gold during the gold rush.
