My first attempt at creating a path with the Pen tool. It sure takes a lot of practice understanding how the smooth curves function and how to adjust the Bezier Handles and Direction Lines at a later stage. I just kept repeating to myself - "The longer the Direction Line, the bigger the bulge of the curve!". It seems to work for me!

Really handy to know that you can just drag the newly created Work Path to the "Create New Path" icon and it will save the path. I think the SHIFT key is very useful to constrain the direction of your path to 45 degree increments.

In this constraining environment, the expression of colours seems almost a miracle on leaves and flowers. The other contrast is for us to see green plants against urban colours.

As the season changes and invites more rains, the plants living in our cracks gain strength, expand, multiply and claim our urban spaces, our paths, alleys, calling for removal.

The cycle of seasons alternates beauty from observing plants and beauty from removing them.

The exhibition Human Pyramid by artist Isla Hansen explores the relationship between body and technology, confronting the feeling of oppressive technological progress with objects of play. Through the use of digital fabrication processes and automated technologies in combination with the hand made, hand modeled, hand molded, and hand finished, the artist aims to reveal the myth of automation -- the often hidden human labor that is always a necessary part of using automated tools, often perceived as more technological than our own bodies. Human Pyramid explores the contradiction, absurdity, tragedy, and joy inherent in the human attempt to build worlds and control them through the use of tools and labor. Inspired by DIY home construction shows, erector sets and construction games, objects of play, sports media, and the notion of self-replicating machines, Human Pyramid searches for an aesthetic that reclaims the tools of oppressive systems constraining bodies at play and bodies at work.

This talk will provide an overview on Hornbeck's research agenda, which explores how economies grow and adapt by drawing lessons from the historical development of the American economy. Much of economics is concerned with why some places are poor and some are rich, which is closely related to why some places became rich and some remained poor. His research uses particular historical episodes to better understand issues related to this central theme within economics, as history often provides unique opportunities to understand economic adaptation and growth.

Some common themes in this research include: how enforcement of property rights encourages growth and transaction costs constrain growth; the magnitude of productivity spillovers across firms and their impacts on workers; impacts of market integration; how the economy adapts to a changing environment; and general adaptation to labor or capital scarcity. These topics often relate to how economic behavior and the natural environment combine to shape economic outcomes.

J ust a week back, on 16 April a Dalit researCh se'holar of Nil committed suicide in the institute. It came as an incident of immense shock and grief to the entire student community. It was even more disturbing to realize that it is the third such case of suicide during the tenure of the present director Prof. A. Suroli. Moreover, several suicides have happened in other liSe. Bangalore (both in Aug 2007) and liT Kanpur (8 deaths iP .

Even though the authorities are trying to sweep the entire issue under the carpet by proclaiming it to be caused by some personal trauma, we have to take the struggle for an impartial and just enquiry forward by all means. At the same time we have to ask : What after all is the social environment in these so called 'premiere' institutes which is pushing the academically committed young scholars to such levels of depression that they are committing suicides? .

It is well known that the science research in the country, particularly laboratory based researches are often structured 'results' and 'deadlines'.

The societal discrimination based on caste and gender get many fold magnified within such structures with women and students from deprived sections being the worst victims. While through student protests the fellowship was released, it exposed at one stroke the structural routes of harassment, intimidation and victimisation that is .

This photo shows a temperature logger emerging from the first snow cover at our experimental field site in Davos. Beneath the snow, our experimental plants overwinter, waiting for the next growing season, while we wait to assess which individuals survived the alpine winter. My research investigates how species respond to changing climatic conditions and what constrains their elevational range limits. Understanding these processes is essential for predicting how ecosystems may shift under climate change.

The next day at work my boss once again said in front of everyone who worked there that I had gone astray and also said a lot of things that blasphemed Almighty God. Hearing her say such things made me really angry, so I asked her, “We are all believers in God. Why don’t you investigate the words and work of Almighty God and seek God’s will instead of just blindly condemning and blaspheming Him? Doing such things shows that you have no reverence for God in your heart!” After saying all this, I stormed out. A short while later my boss came looking for me and told me that I should not have lost my temper with her. I said, “I didn’t want to lose my temper but you shouldn’t have said those things. The things you said that blasphemed, opposed, and condemned God are not things that we believers in God should ever say, because they offend Him. From your perspective, it may seem that you are doing a good deed by urging me to change my mind. But I’m an adult, and I think things through rationally. The issue of whether or not Almighty God is the return of the Lord Jesus is something that I’ve sought and investigated. It’s not something that I just randomly decided to believe in. Please respect my decision, and don’t try to stop me or constrain me from seeking and investigating God’s work of the last days.” My boss then asked me if I’d seen any of the rumors on TV and on the Internet about The Church of Almighty God. I replied, “Negative stuff always comes from Satan. What I read are the words of Almighty God, and what I watch are the films, choir videos, and music videos produced by The Church of Almighty God. I don’t watch what you watch. The Church of Almighty God doesn’t allow its members to do wicked deeds, which is exactly the opposite of what you are all saying. Almighty God asks that we become honest people and good people who possess humanity, conscience and reason.” After listening to what I had to say my boss was at a loss for words, and having no other option, she left.

Here is something I learned about Spine…

A tool to make smooth 2D animation for games. After attaching bones to the materials, images can be transformed, moved or rotated by selecting the corresponding bones. IK(Inverse Kinematics) constrains can be used to make limbs moving like a ball-jointed doll. Its animation function looks similar with the one I learned in Photoshop, but I cannot be sure because I’m still learning.

I did’t get to finish either the character design pages or the planned motion animations. It took much more time than I imagined on drawing separated parts, making neat lines and adjusting bones……I made many mistakes, and some of the problems are still unsolved.

Genest cut the jigsaw in 2020 as a stack of two, and although mine is the lower one the line-cutting is accurate & extensive. There is no constraining edge-frame over much of the perimeter. I managed to flip it within a portapuzzle, supporting the lower edge with a metal ruler.

The focus of my research is an examination of the daily lives of South Asian women, specifically in my home city of Karachi, Pakistan. Within my art practice, I draw from my experiences of how I inhabit public and private spaces and rely on research from other South Asian scholars interested in gender, urban space and the women’s right in everyday life. My research into how gender is interwoven with demarcations between and connotations of public and private spaces has led me to deeply examine what private spaces and boundaries mean to women for whom unconditional access to public spaces is still a fantasy. In this exhibition I investigate “phenomenal boundaries”; a term coined by sociologist Bridget Purcell, that is, the boundary not as “real”, but as experienced and constituted (or not) by its inhabitants. My aim is to think about place from the lens of gender and discuss phenomenal boundaries women create in order to feel safer in public spaces, as well as the phenomenal boundaries in the form of fear that women experience when they step into a public place. Examining my relationship with place has led me to a deeper and more expansive definition of boundaries as constraining, or safe, and sometimes both at the same time. In the installation, Transgressing Boundaries, I present my perspective as a upper middle class woman living in Pakistan, negotiating the boundaries of fear, of limited access to public space, and within the private spaces of home. My work draws out how I, and many other women around me, actively engage and negotiate for space and power. One of the ways of doing this is by using the very same boundaries and constraints to empower space for ourselves in the patriarchal world. In this installation, I reflect on the idea of boundaries by curating a private space, built with separators, the ritual of Rangoli, and illustrations of myself. I create a private space that is safe and yet constraining, active and yet passive; a space that maintains boundaries while simultaneously transgress them.

13037-A Lee Jackson Memorial Hwy Service Rd, Fairfax, VA 22033. 4/8/2025. In these pictures I wanted to show a bit of the human nature in the early stages of the morning. A large portion of adults like to drink coffee in the morning to wake themselves up in the morning. This lends itself to a bigger peace of human nature in the time we live in currently. People especially the ones who wake up early in the morning like to wake themselves up and get amped up for their day. whether it be going for a jog in the morning or drinking 3 cups of coffee humans want to get out of the grogginess of the early morning. Almost the opposite of what blue hour is in the evening for most people. For this shoot in particular I think it ended up great in my opinion. It showcased what I wanted it to showcase and it had a great look to it as well. My initial goal of this early morning shoot was to get a picture of all the people in the morning commuting to work on the highway but that didn’t really work out as well as I had hoped. I am glad I got a chance to get a few good pictures of the people picking up their morning coffees at the Starbucks. Working under the permitters of blue hour is a little bit constraining with it being a small window of about 30 minutes every time so I need to be more decisive about what I am going to be taking pictures of and plan ahead in greater detail in the coming weeks.
