Home of the Constitutional Court of South Africa, the highest court in the country. Its decisions cannot be changed by any other court. The court decides constitutional and general matters, including any issue involving the interpretation, protection or enforcement of the Constitution.
This site had previously been one of the most heinous prisons in South Africa.
Before Europeans touched this continent, native tribes in this region formed the Iroquois Confederacy. The Confederacy was based on a constitution known as Gayanashagowa, the Great Law of Peace, or
Great Binding Law (). It is a matter of much heated debate whether this constitution influenced the founders of the United States.
Heavy fregate "Constitution", known as "Old Ironsides," is the oldest commissioned ship afloat in the world. "Constitution" was first put to sea 22 July 1798 and saw her first service patrolling the southeast coast of the United States during the Quasi-War with France, then take part in War of 1812 against British Empire. On July 21, 1997, as part of her 200th birthday celebration, Constitution set sail for the first time in 116 years. Constitution is berthed at the end of Boston's Freedom Trail. She is open to the public year round.
