The people of Carmarthen braced the cold weather and came to visit the National Assembly for Wales Bus on Wednesday. A few comments were made regarding the constituency boundaries; some local people feel they aren’t represented properly due to the fact that their constituency is shared with Pembrokeshire. One person specifically came on board to express his view that stroke services are lacking in Wales. He was therefore pleased to hear of the inquiry into Stroke Services that has been conducted by the Health, Wellbeing and Local Government Committee. Their report is available on the Assembly’s website. One person felt that Wales should have more law- making powers, and that St David’s Day should be made a bank holiday. A group of sixth form students from Ysgol Bro Myrddin came by and were very eager to have their say. They mentioned that electronic voting should be considered to get a higher turnout at elections, especially as people in rural areas don’t tend to travel to polling stations. They said that many young people think politics is boring and that it should therefore be made more relevant to get more young people involved in future.

Telok Blangah Constituency held their Welcome 2014 at the West Coast Park with recreation and games activities for the participants.

Young people from YOUNGO – the youth constituency under the UNFCCC – are taking action today inside the UN climate talks. Silently holding placards bearing the words ‘Equity is the Pathway to Ambition’, they issue a powerful reminder to negotiators from developed countries that it is their responsibility to take the lead in acting on climate change. YOUNGO demands a renewed drive for progress at the climate talks; progress which is based on science and equity.

“We have had loud and fun actions so far. But today we are silent, reminding negotiators of the respect that the fundamental principles of this Convention require. Some governments believe they can simply overwrite the principles of a global convention but these are based on equitable values which are not up for negotiation. It is only by following a pathway which is equitable and just that we will be able to make real strides in the fight against climate change.” said Maja Gudim Burheim from the Norwegian organisation, Changemaker.

A throng of people in Fenkle Street, upon the re-election of the Berwick-upon-Tweed constituency MP, Edward Grey (Viscount Grey of Fallodon).

A decent politician, Grey held the seat for an impressive length of 31 years, from 1885 (when this new Berwick constituency was formed) until 1916.

Britain's Foreign Secretary in 1914, his main failing had been to clearly state to Germany that action against Belgium would definitely lead to war. If he had been more thorough in pushing this point, is it just possible that the past may have been slightly different ?

Grey famously stated that, "The lamps are going out all over Europe. We shall not see them lit again in our time".

In 1900, Fenkle Street was still a major shopping and trading street in Alnwick town.

Note the archway and the adjoining building to the left of this photo -- the old "Drill Hall", often mistakenly thought to date from the 1860s, this was actually built circa 1834.

Although commonly said to have been constructed by the Northumberland & Durham District banking Company, it may indeed have included facilities for a subscription library, possibly provided by local philanthropists.

The provision of a library of this sort would have been popular in this street, with printers such as Graham, Smith, Davison and Hunter Blair all being at one time or another within a stone's throw of this site.

Note that the balconies used above the shop have been removed, but even today the new stonework put in place is obvious.

The old "Drill Hall" is an impressive building and one used for various Council and community roles, including the Lionheart Radio station.

Boyani, Hamisi District, Vihiga County

29 November 2011

[ You can listen to the speech Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka made at Boyani on my Youtube channel at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-o_sqWfI7A&list=UUDCjO7EDzbK... ]

I was in Vihiga County this weekend to attend the function to ordain my father, Joseph Inima,88, as a reverend bishop of the African Divine Church. Altogether 113 reverend bishops from Kenya were ordained. This position is the second highest in the church hierarchy.

Joseph Inima has been a pastor and then a vicar bishop of Gajiremba Church, Munzatsi since 1995.

The ceremony was held at Boyani in Hamisi District, Vihiga County, where the headquarters of the church is located.

ADC is the third largest church in Vihiga County after the Friends Church and the Pentecostal Church. The Church was began at Boyani in 1948. The church has now spread throughout Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and DRC . Recently branches of the church have been opened in South Sudan and Netherlands.

The Vice President , Kalonzo Musyoka, was the guest of honour.

The sermon was delivered by Rev. Bernard Khatechi of the Garden of Hope Baptists Church, Nairobi who was introduced by the Head of the Church, Rt. Rev. Archbishop John Chabuga.

The Vice President commended the church for the expansion it has registered since inception as a Kenyan indigenous Church back in 1948.

Mr. Musyoka urged people of all faith to pray for the country and security agencies as they pursue the Al-shabaab militia both at home and in Somalia.

Mr. Musyoka reiterated that Kenya is not at war with ill-intentions but aims at securing security of Kenyans and peace in Somalia.

He said Kenya is in record being an active participant in conflict resolution in the great lakes region and the horn of Africa.

Mr. Musyoka called on religious organization to counsel the youth and discourage them from joining criminal gangs such as the Al-shabaab terrorist outfit.

Mr. Musyoka donated 200 000/= to the ongoing construction of the headquarter building. Musyoka promised to mobilize more donations to ensure the building construction is completed.

This is the third time Mr. Musyoka is visiting Boyani this year. He was here again on 29 August 2011 when he also donated 200 000/= towards the ongoing construction project.

Mwala Member of Parliament and also a pastor, Isaac Muoki accompanied Mr. Kalonzo.Others who attended were the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Vice President, Dr. Ludeki Chweya and the Hamisi District Commissioner, Mr. George Okelo. There were also a number of candidates aspiring for various civic and national leadership positions. With over 1.5 million followers in Kenya, the African Divine Church is one of the biggest constituencies in the country.

I video-taped the the Vice President's speech and have posted the video on my channel at Youtube:

ETT members took action, as part of ETFO’s one-day rotating strike action, on January 20, 2020, to send a message to Doug Ford at his constituency office that it’s time for a fair deal for students and teachers.

The future of our shared public education system is at stake.

The Ford government continues to demand cuts at the Central Bargaining Table, while refusing to address critical issues such as protecting our world class Kindergarten model, providing staffing supports for Special Education, addressing violence in schools, and so many other items we know are essential to students, parents, and teachers.

We will not relent in our fight for the schools our students deserve.
