Black-tailed prairie dogs, Cynomys ludovicianus, console one another for their plight. They live in a moderate-sized colony in an area that was once a meadow. They ate all the good plants, and those that remain are highly defended by chemical defenses. At the edge of the colony is a large cottonwood with a bald eagle's nest, occupied by two adults and their very big chick. The eagles consider this densely occupied weed field to be their personal banquet table. As if poisoned food and looming predators were not enough, a badger trundled through the colony the previous day, sniffing burrows and making plans.
Life drags on, and then you die. Hug a friend and console them.

Over 10,000 people of Japanese descent were incarcerated in the Manzanar Relocation Camp during World War 2. Over 150 died during detention. After the war ended and the Japanese people were released, most moved their loved one's remains to their home area. Only six graves remain in the cemetery along with the 15 feet tall monument erected by camp residents. The characters read: Soul Consoling Tower. The obelisk remains a focal point for visitors to reflect upon the meaning of this place.
Happy Fence Friday!
Happy Flare Friday!
It was built in 1943 by the residents of the Manzanar War Relocation Camp as a monument to honor those who died during incarceration and thus would not be able to return home. Today, the 10-foot tower stands as symbol of peace and resilience. Annual ceremonies of the survivors of the camp and their descendants include placing of wreaths of origami peace doves.
Behind the tower, Mt Williamson, the second highest peak in the Sierra Nevada Mountains rises 14,379 feet.

It was built in 1899–1900, with the entrance consoles bearing a 1900 date. The Tavern was frequented by West Ham United F.C. supporters due to its proximity to West Ham's ground, the Boleyn Ground. Often at risk from vandalism from opposing supporters, it would have its windows boarded up for a local derby such as West Ham and Millwall.
It is on the Campaign for Real Ale's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors. (Wikipedia)
The then-President of France Georges Pompidou (1911-1974) had a modified SM built at his request in 1972. The presidential DS, as used by his predecessor Charles de Gaulle, had a fixed roof, but Pompidou wanted to sit in the open air. The construction of new royal transport was once again entrusted to Citroën. The design department, led by Robert Opron, draw the car. The designs were then sent to coachbuilder Henri Chapron, who took charge of building the four-door convertible. In total, Citroën delivered two SMs to Chapron. It was not Georges Pompidou who had the honour of taking the first drive. None other than Queen Elizabeth II was the first to step into the back in May 1972 in Paris. The car is 5.603 meters long and weighs 1,780 kg. Further modifications include a modified gearbox (for driving at walking speed), front seats moved outwards to accomodate a folding seat at the rear (for an interpreter), a steering column shifted 6 cm to the left, and the repositioning of the handbrake, now next to the center console.
Two identical cars were built (2 PR 75 & 3 PR 75). Both cars are still owned by the French state.

In the cloister, the carved consoles on the wall side and the capitals on the garden side evoke both profane and sacred subjects, real and fantastic. Animals, in particular, are numerous. They illustrate this medieval world populated by beasts and monsters, wild and domestic fauna (bears, camels, rams, donkeys), sometimes fantastic (tarasques, dragons, chimeras...) or even these disturbing beings, human faces wearing horns and rubbing shoulders with devils surrounded by flames... These remarkable sculptures are reminiscent of the cloister of the cathedral of Saint-Trophime in Arles or the sculptures of the Château de Tarascon where we find this fantastic bestiary, incarnation of the devil (the Drac, celebrated in Beaucaire).

I'm not sure what I'm looking for anymore
I just know that I'm harder to console
I don't see who I'm trying to be instead of me
But the key is a question of control
Can you say what you're trying to play anyway
I just pay while you're breaking all the rules
All the signs that I find have been underlined
Devils thrive on the drive that is fueled ...

You can take your poxy WiiMe and swivel! :-) Introducing the brand new XBox Live Avatar, which has been introduced today as part of the new console interface update.
I'm sure you'll agree, the resemblance is uncanny! ;-)
The new interface update is pretty damned impressive and radical, as well. Very swish and pretty. If you don't have a 360 yet - why not? Stick one on your Christmas list now! :-D
The Soul Consoling Tower stands as a poignant memorial at the Manzanar National Historic Site, honoring the Japanese Americans who died during their incarceration at the Manzanar War Relocation Center in World War II. Erected in August 1943, this white concrete obelisk bears the inscription 慰霊塔 ("Irei To") on its front, translating to "Soul Consoling Tower."
Mainly a bit of practice to see if I could pull off a detailed enough design for the 13th Doctor's console. I think it turned out rather nice.
At the time I wasn’t quite sure why I wanted to buy this vintage Kodachrome, obviously one look at my Flickr photo stream would indicate I do like images of railroading, but I have never really been an enthusiast of train wrecks or any kind of accidents.
I guess what drew me to this old slide was the tight, close-up composition and shadow play of the two box cars and tank car that had been involved in this derailment.
Almost looking as if they are trying to console one another after the cracking of wood and the screeching of bending steel had subsided, all while silently trying to understand the shocking, terrible experience they had all just endured.
This would likely have been the end for all three of these freight cars, especially the Chicago & North Western and Texas & New Orleans outside braced wooden box cars which given their age were most likely deemed not worthy of repair.
I was curious about the TIDX reporting marks on that 8103 Gallon single dome tank car, for this point in time it looks like it would have been owned by either Tidewater Oil Company of Oklahoma or Tidewater Associated Oil Company.
I have no idea on the exact location or date of this scene, although the printing style on the red-bordered Kodachrome slide mount is the type Kodak had used during the five-year period of 1950 – 1955.
