Former Royal Air Force English Electric Lightning F.3 XR713/C on display outside Bruntingthorpe's LPG 'QRA' sheds during the 2018 'Lightning Storm' event

Once on charge at RAF Leuchars and used as 'Treble One' Squadron's 'Gate Guard', when the RAF left Leuchars the LPG acquired her

Engineless she compliments their other 'working' Lightnings

On the day '713' was in dual marks - No.111 'Tremblers' and newly applied No.56 'Firebirds' colours on her starboard side along with spoof serial - XR718 and coded 'C'

Sadly, since the airfield was sold, the LPG is now limited to a small fenced enclave around their QRA Sheds.

The two F.6 'runners' being reduced to engine runs only as their spectacular 'Fast Taxi' dashes down Brunter's huge runway are now consigned to history

If you're talking about a survivor, you're talking about diesel locomotive 1964 from Medway, Portugal. It's the only example of the 1960 series still running; the other locomotives in this series have long since been consigned to history. On January 15, 2026, the engine was shunted for a timber train at the construction site called Vila Nova de Gaia (once a charming freight station). The heavy rain was endured to take a picture.

Now both my arthritic hips have been consigned to the unwanted medical parts bin and replaced by shiny, new ones, it's really very much easier to get to the shoreline at this wonderful cove. The big, slippy rocks just don't seem so daunting as they previously did! Saying that though, the surgeon would probably have a fit if he saw how I'm mistreating his work!

Thanks for looking and thanks folks for the views, comments and favourites on my last few posted images.

Conair Turbo Firecat F-AYFT, owned by the Amicale Alençonnaise des Avions Anciens and based at Alençon in northern France.

The ex-Sécurité Civile turboprop fire-bomber variant of the Grumman S-2 Tracker, formerly F-ZBET, had completed its maiden flight as a preserved historic aircraft at Nîmes-Alès-Camargue-Cévennes Airport, its last base with the Sécurité Civile, on 10 October 2023.

The aircraft was originally built for the US Navy in 1959 as an S2F-1 Tracker, BuNo 147559. Consigned to the Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona ‘boneyard’ during 1981, four years later the airframe was revived by Conair as part of its Firecat programme. Operation by the Sécurité Civile followed from 1987 to 2019, latterly as a Turbo Firecat using Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A turbine engines following a further Conair conversion.

IMVHO, this has to be the finest car ever built. Styling, class and swooping lines makes this car seem at speed while sitting still.

Chassis: 90104

The second, of eleven (11) 'Teardrop's built with the 'New York' style, chassis 90104 was delivered new to prominent orange plantation owner Dr. Fernand Masquefa, who resided both in Algeria and Morocco. He was a great enthusiast and retained the Figoni & Falaschi clothed machine for over forty years, frequently using it in local events. In the early 1980s, he finally sold the car and eventually it was completely restored for its new, Swiss owner. He showed the car at various events in the early 1990s before it was acquired by the current custodian. He had it restored once again and entered it in the 1997 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance where it won the prestigious 'Best of Show' award.

This year, (2022), a very similar car, chassis 90107, was consigned to Gooding Amelia Island auction, where it topped the sale with a record breaking price of $13.4 million !!!

An artifact left in our home by its prior owners. It no longer works, and so has no practical use, but I like looking at it and occasionally photographing it, which seems like a better fate than consigning it to the landfill.

It looks like some of those newspapers just dropped off from the 06.00 Glasgow Queen Street - Mallaig might be a bit damp after being dumped on the wet platform. A scene enacted daily at the time at many stations but long consigned to history.

This is one of the least photographed geeps in all the land. For one it is the most northerly based locomotive on the continent, consigned to permanent duty at Eielson Air Force Base 26 miles southeast of Fairbanks....truly the very end of the line and as far as you can get by rail from Anchorage. Second, Eielson, home of the 354th Fighter Wing, is strictly off limits to civilian personnel, and only as an employee of the railroad was I able to access it.

The base is home to a small rail network to support Air Force operations and formerly it handled Jet fuel in tank cars for the air craft based there. While the rail unloading racks are still present and maintained in state of readiness, moving fuel by rail from Anchorage is strictly a back op option to the local supply from the Petro Star refinery in North Pole, Alaska.

The main use of the railroad these days is to switch coal hoppers for unloading at the base power and steam plant. The little 25MW plant seen here in the background was built in 1952 and burns coal mined in Healy and transported hear by way of the ARRC. To learn a little more here is an article on the plant with some photos: www.eielson.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/591939/he...

The coal had been loaded at the dispoal point at Cwnmbargoed which can been seen on the hill in the background. In the foreground is Nant Y Ffin No2 drift mine which was still open at the time, but being a Sunday deserted but it was possible to walk into the drift. I remember the coal tub not being fully in the shot so we pushed it into position a few minutes before the 37’s rumbled by with coal of which some could have been sourced at this small concern. Websites state the drift was shut in 1985 so must have been reopened at some stage. This scene was consigned to history many yers ago.

The #FlickrFriday #Nostalgia challenge

Welcome to St Mary’s Old Church. Parts of its (unseen here) north wall are 1000 years old, Roman tiles appearing within its fabric. The guidebook accurately describes the church as a harmonious jumble of centuries past, bits having fallen, been knocked down, bits added. A visit reveals ancient graffiti, a large 17th century mural, well preserved death’s head (puritan) gravestones, Victorian burial plots, two graves which (when their epitaphs are contemplated together) reveal how a wealthy and well-regarded local family was stalked by tragedy, and stories of a querulous parish, a problem which made it all the way to the court of Queen Elizabeth I.

But all that has passed. Its parish grew geographically away from the church and in the early 20th century a replacement church was built near the centre of the village, making this one redundant.

Now enter The Churches Conservation Trust, a charity which exists to care for important old churches such as this one which is a Grade I listed building. It, together with a few local volunteers, keep the church maintained and accessible each day. Inside, the atmosphere is one of peace and solitude, the sounds of a busy trunk road about a kilometre away and a railway a little further distant being almost entirely muffled. Its tower was repaired in 2019. The work unexpectedly revealed ancient wall paintings which resulted in a sudden halt to the conservation while plans were made both to conserve them and, in good time, reveal them to visitors. So, although regular services, christenings, weddings, and funerals are consigned to history, this marvellous old church remains alive. The sense of history in and around the building seamlessly joins a continuing story, and long may that be so.

This photo is the one everybody takes when encountering this building because trees in the graveyard greatly inhibit photography from other angles. It has been heavily edited to create an aura of age in order to reflect the 'nostalgia' theme. Changes include it being converted to monochrome with a sepia tone, grain and a vignette added.

There is this pub in the village of Travone that we went to a lot this year. Its a pretty little place just around the coastline from were we were staying. We actually began going there many years ago when on our honeymoon. We use to end our day there by eating our evening meal watching the last sunrays disappear over the Atlantic.

But this year the pub was a very handy west facing location for Cathy to relax with the kids whist I regularly, (guilt reduced) ran down the corn field, tripod strapped to my back, over a gate and through some very posh houses, with even more expensive views, to get to this little gem of a beach.

I have mixed feelings about this image. I totally love the sunset. It began rather muted, but as you can see it managed to peep through the cloudbank, just before it disappeared down under the horizon. My hesitation in posting this is due to the quantity of untidy rocks and this image that distract from a clean composition. It also lacks any kind of water action, which I have become, to like in these types of shots, to give it movement and drama. I do however like the clean simplicity in the sand bars, and feel it justifies being let out from the dungeon of images consigned to my hard drive.

Funny this sun chasing lark. If you think about it, it is not the sun that is moving, its us. It is us. that are spinning away from it. At hundreds of miles an hour from its warm rays. (At mid-latitudes, the speed of the Earth's rotation is 700 to 900 miles per hour )

The sun is the main character, the main focus in the average landscape snapper’s sights. Many people take its presence for granted. I mean its there every day, it is in-fact the thing that defines our day, the length of our day, thou the year. It sustains our very existence. With out it we would not be here. If it stopped, ran out, turned off then god what a disaster. How long would we live? There would be a permanent static sunset and sunrise skirting the circumference of the world. In fact it wouldn’t be a sunrise or set at all, it would have to be renamed the suns edge. The world’s population would have to live within 5o miles of this line, as one side of the planet would be frozen solid and the other side would be scorched to a cinder. We would all have to migrate to the edge of the sun influence. We all would live in consent yellow and red light. Wow what a world that would be. A densely populated ring of kayos around the entire planet.

Many ageing, but otherwise excellent and wholly useable cameras will be consigned to the cupboard or bin because of problems with their light meters.

Either the meter is broken, or out of calibration and too expensive to fix, or the camera may require now unavailable mercury-cell batteries that pollute the environment in order to meter accurately.

Or perhaps the camera never had a meter in the first place, like loads of mine haven't!

One of the better solutions in my view is the Voigtlander VC meter (in either VCI or VCII version).

This beautifully made little meter is extremely reliable and accurate, and will fit conveniently on virtually any camera that has an accessory/flash mount shoe (no electrical contacts required - the shoe just holds it in place) and if the camera doesn't have one, it's not beyond the wit of man to fix one on the viewfinder prism housing or top-plate, surely?

I think these dinky little meters are truly excellent.

And they're not just for fitting on modern Voigtlander rangefinders, or vintage Leicas.

An MRF of unknown consist was southbound on the Missabe sub. I kinda hoped the crossing here at 24.5 would find him slicing into the sun with the Cloquet River fog in the background but considering the seemingly rapid lifting of the fog and the fact that the sun was buried here until nearly train time I was consigned to another clunker. The fog wasn't so much lifting as it was shifting giving me a result about as dramatic as I had hoped for.

crece veloz, i cuando exhausta acaba,

adulta prole en torno le sucede.”

(Bello, 1958 [1826], p. 8)

Four years and six months after their first Test win, Bangladesh sealed a historic second victory when they beat West Indies by 95 runs in St Vincent. Bangladesh's spin twins Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah weaved a tantalising web to consign a weakened West Indies to defeat. The only resistance came from David Bernard, who defied everything thrown at him for 134 balls to remain unbeaten on 52.

The champagne moment arrived at 4.40 pm local time when Shakib, the stand-in captain, nailed last man Tino Best in front with a dipping full toss with only ten overs left in the day. Best put up his bat as if to suggest he had edged it but the finger was up and the Bangladeshi fielders converged in a huddle of joy, soon joined by a limping Mashrafe Mortaza.

It was an enthralling last couple of sessions in a beautiful setting, the Kingstown stadium ringed by the sea. The cricket was almost sub-continental in its elements. Spinners operated with several close-in men prowling near the batsmen waiting for a mistake, and an over-excited chirpy wicketkeeper, Mushfiqur Rahim, applying immense pressure on the batsmen and the umpires with his appeals exclamations. And when the seamers came on, it wasn't seam but reverse swing on view with the slinging Rubel Hossain and the grunting Shahadat Hossain trying their best to break through.

The plot thickened in the last session, as Bernard found a willing partner in Nikita Miller, suggesting a replay of Cardiff, where England pulled off a great escape on Sunday. But Mohammad Ashraful, who failed in both innings with the bat, stamped his presence on the game by removing Miller, who'd stayed on his back foot to defend stoutly for 54 balls, with one that straightened to get the edge. Mahmudullah returned to trap Ryan Austin and take out Kemar Roach before Shakib sealed the finish.

Until then, Bernard had proved to be a huge headache to the visitors, standing solidly between them and history. His CV describes him as a stylish batsman but today he added grit to the existing grace. Despite the tremendous pressure, he managed to bat with some elegance, using his wrists to ride the turn and bounce on the final-day wicket. While the rest pushed hard at the ball, he played with soft hands and defended confidently.

The contest with Shakib was top-notch, with the bowler shifting angles and trying everything in his arsenal - left-arm breaks, straighter one, arm-ball, round-arm delivery, over and round-the-wicket - to beat a batsman batting in the zone. He moved forward or back, as the length demanded of him, using his wrists to drop the ball down short of the fielders. When the spin noose tightened, he had the courage to play the pressure-relieving strokes like the lofted drives and the cuts. He survived a close lbw shout in the 44th over against Shakib when a ball straightened to hit the pad in front of the stumps but, that blemish apart, he was pretty solid.

However, Shakib and Mahmudullah ensured no other batsmen would deny them a slice of history. Shakib, hailed by the former Australian spinner Kerry O' Keefe as the "best finger spinner in the world", turned in a suffocating spell of left-arm spin to relentlessly force the pressure on West Indies. Shakib was slightly slow through the air in the first innings and couldn't pose too many problems on a slow track. Today, though, he ripped it slightly quicker and immediately looked threatening. He varied his pace, even his angle, by lowering the arm on occasion and, unsurprisingly, was the better of the two spinners, despite finishing with fewer wickets. He occasionally got the ball to straighten and slipped in a few with the arm.

In his first over Shakib harassed Omar Phillips before going past an attempted sweep to trap the batsman. Later, after Darren Sammy and Bernard had added 37 in 11.3 overs, he struck, removing Sammy with a little bit of help from the batsman. Suddenly, against the run of play and just before tea, Sammy jumped out and sliced an ambitious square drive straight to point.

Even when he was not taking wickets, Shakib kept the pressure on and by keeping the batsmen on a leash, allowed Mahmudullah the space to wreak some damage. At one point in the chase the keeper Rahim shouted out to Mahmudullah: "Just keep hitting the right areas; the pitch will take care of the rest". Mahmudullah did exactly that to pick up three quick wickets after lunch before he returned to take another two in the last session. He increased the pressure with his accuracy and made the batsmen play at every ball. It paid off - and how.

Floyd Reifer, who was tormented by Shakib, showed himself to be a prime lbw candidate. Time and again, that front leg was pressed dangerously across but he managed to stab and jab his way out against Shakib. But Mahmudullah finally broke through with one that landed and straightened to strike that front leg. His next victim was Travis Dowlin, inducing a nervous prod straight to short-leg. Chadwick Walton walked in and started off with a second-ball six but was done in by one that kept low from Mahmudullah and was struck in front of the leg stump.

The slide had started with a moment of madness from the opener Dale Richards who added 20 runs in two overs before he had a brain freeze. He ambled out of the crease after being hit on the pad by Shahadat Hossain, all the while looking anxiously at the umpire for the verdict on the lbw appeal, which went in his favour, but was run out by a direct hit. That allowed Bangladesh the opening and they stormed through.

When the day started, it looked as if Bangladesh were dawdling with the bat and not showing enough urgency to either go for quick runs or leave many overs as possible to bowl out West Indies. However, Darren Sammy took a five-for to bowl them out and that proved a blessing in hindsight as it allowed their spinners enough time to bowl them to a euphoric triumph.

On December 29th of 2009 NS 66Q had a pretty rare for Toledo KCS leader with a Santa Fe warbonnet trailing for a little added variety. Looking back six years later the increasingly rare at that time Conrail leader on 23K looks pretty good too! The distinctive NYC signals jutting out over the mains have also been consigned to history with a modern tubular structure now standing there alongside Toledo Yard.

Caisse des Depots

The Deposit and Consignment Office (CDC), sometimes simply called Caisse des Depots, is a public financial institution created in France in 1816. Placed under the direct supervision of Parliament, it operates in the public interest on behalf of the state and local governments, but also in competitive activities.

It is on Quai Anatole France.

Caisse des Dépôts is created by one of the great laws of the Restoration of April 28, 1816 to restore confidence in public finances, after the disorders of the First Empire. With its autonomous status, it can manage private funds outside the budget of the state and ensure the protection of savings. Beginning in 1816, it manages consignments and pensions of officials and invests the funds entrusted to its management.

The Musée d'Orsay is a museum in Paris, France, on the left bank of the Seine, housed in the former railway station, the Gare d'Orsay. It holds mainly French art dating from 1848 to 1915, including paintings, sculptures, furniture, and photography, and is probably best known for its extensive collection of impressionist masterpieces by popular painters such as Monet and Renoir. Many of these works were held at the Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume prior to the museum's opening in 1986.

This defunct cord was about to be consigned to the trash but my brain at almost 2am saw a photographic opportunity.

Want to see the set-up?

Class 04 D2258 sits awaiting its fate at C F Booths Rotherham scrap yard on the 27th of September 1986. This was one of very few class 04`s to receive the corporate blue BR livery before withdrawal. After many years of NCB service retaining this livery, there would be no escape & the loco had been consigned to oblivion by the year end.

For a change, a few black and white images. Whilst I spent my 2 odd months getting rid of a large quantity of books, I made time to purge external drives and memory sticks for photos either to post or consign to the trash box.

I must have raised a few eyebrows when I took this. As was often the case I had worked late that night and by the time I reached Blackfriars station for my train back to Beckenham Junction I had a little spare time. Out of my briefcase came my collapsable tripod so that a I could take this low light image. Thankfully there was next to no one else around to question me.

Of course as well as the unit being long since consigned to razor blade material this station has received a significant facelift.

Nice to see my photo of a dead fly that had been consumed by Entomophthora muscae published in the Polish magazine "Grzyboteka", entirely devoted to the topic of fungus...

It's been so long since they asked if they could use the image, I'd completely forgotten about it, and very nearly consigned the email with the attached 'digital version' of the mag to the spam folder.

I attended the Barrett Jackson Spring 2025 Car Show at WestWorld in Scottsdale with my son.

This 1961 Chevrolet Corvette 283/270 Convertible was not for sale or auction at Scottsdale. The poster describing this car stated that it was being exhibited here but would be sold "No Reserve" at the Palm Beach Auction.

It was described as a "Fully Documented Triple Crown Winner". It had won the Bloomington Gold Special Collection, NCRS TopFlight, and Chevy 'Vette Fest Gold Spinner (twice).

"Barrett-Jackson delivered many magical experiences for everyone who joined us in Scottsdale," said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. "From the excitement of the auction block to the thrill rides, exhibits, STEM Fest and live music, there was truly something that everyone in the family could enjoy. We filled our docket with so much diversity that collectors from every walk of life found something they loved. We stay on top of the trends and consign the vehicles that people want, proving once again that the car collector hobby is thriving. Those trends include the growing popularity of Resto-Mods, SUVs and trucks, which are gaining momentum because they appeal to such a broad cross section of people. I’m especially proud of our support for important charities again this year. We not only raised millions of dollars but also critical awareness that will help make a positive impact on so many communities."

www.classic-car-auctions.info/usa/scottsdale/2025-barrett...

In 2025, Barrett-Jackson earned $198 million by selling 2013 car lots and $5.2 million from 957 pieces of automobilia. A further $6.2 million was raised for charity.

The first production 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 VIN001 achieved $3.7 million as a charity lot and the highest result at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2025 collector car auction in Arizona, USA. The most expensive regular lots were a 2023 Hennessey Venom F5 Roadster ($2,200,000) and a 2014 Pagani Huayra ($1,925,000). DJ Marshmello’s 2020 Ford GT Liquid Carbon Special Edition achieved a strong $1,780,000.

The top four results at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2025 collector car auction were all for modern supercars. The top result was for charity (see below) while the most expensive regular car in the sale was for the nearly new 2023 Hennessy Venom F5 Roadster. This F5 Roadster was the second of only 30 produced and was sold with only 681 miles on the clock.
