"The painting, dating from 1504, was moved from the Church of San Francesco in Città di Castello to the Pinacoteca in 1805. Raphael painted the Marriage of the Virgin having in mind the altarpiece with the same subject by Perugino, which is conserved at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Caen. Raphael took inspiration from it, using its composition structure and iconography to obtain a result of incredible and unachievable perfection.
Infrared reflectography reveals a dense set of lines converging on the temple door. These lines define the image perspective system, fully abiding by the recommendations contained in the De prospectiva pingendi (On the Perspective of Painting) by Piero della Francesca. Thanks to this artifice, the temple becomes the visual centre of the composition. The figures are placed in a semicircle, and their position balances the convex line of the architecture, which has been painted with such a precision that scholars have speculated the existence of a wood model.
All elements are connected to each other by mathematical relations of proportion and placed according to a clear, logical hierarchical order, while Perugino had only juxtaposed the composition elements within a correct perspective structure. The realisation of this coherent organism perfectly demonstrate Raphael’s vision. He intended beauty as an abstract order of geometrical representation and thought that artists had the duty of “making things not as Nature makes them, but as Nature should.”"

I ended up with a couple jars of these preserves - one matcha flavored and one carrot. Haven't tried the carrot yet, but the matcha is great.
Conserving the environment should be considered a gift of common courtesy; we are merely borrowing nature’s beauty for future families and generations to come.

There was a pair constructing this globular nest by robbing old nests located in nearby trees. In nature it's all about conserving energy!

As part of its local community efforts and commitment to conservation, Manheim Pennsylvania teamed up with American Rivers on Saturday, June 9 to clean the Conestoga River in Lancaster County Central Park.
More than 100 Manheim employees and their family members cleaned up debris from the river and surrounding park area from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. American Rivers volunteers joined in the clean-up efforts.

We also stopped at Newspaper Rock, which has all sorts of prehistoric drawings carefully guarded by a chain-link fence, as well as graffiti from the early 1900s which is apparently now considered part of the archaeological record. I'm hoping this fence and the tourist signs get preserved for the future to excavate, as well...

Cuyahoga Valley National Park conserves and reclaims the rural landscape along the Cuyahoga River between Akron and Cleveland in Northeast Ohio's Cuyahoga and Summit counties.
The 32,572-acre (50.9 square mile) park is administered by the National Park Service, but within its boundaries are areas independently managed as county parks or as public or private businesses. Cuyahoga Valley was originally designated as a National Recreation Area in 1974, then redesignated as a national park 26 years later in 2000, and remains the only national park that originated as a national recreation area.
Cuyahoga Valley is the only national park in the state of Ohio and one of three in the Great Lakes Basin, with Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior and Indiana Dunes National Park bordering Lake Michigan. Cuyahoga Valley also differs from the other national parks in the U.S. in that it is adjacent to two large urban areas and it includes a dense road network, small towns, and public and private attractions.

Conserved remains of a village fort founded around 1300. It was a local strongpoint, attacked and demolished in 1408, but renewed, after the owners died out the king took all their possessions. After 1468, when the king lost a decisive battle against Austrians supported by Hungarians, the fort was one of many which had to be given to supporters of the Hungarian king, after 1505 it lost its residential function and was abandoned. It was a round buliding surrounded by two 8 m deep and 12 m wide moats, a multilevel residential tower was put into the round wall, a second defensive tower stood inside the walls (the base is still well visible).
Ah la mer et son horizon sans fin. Là où les lointains cachent des abîmes de grands fonds de mystères et de l'Histoire cachée et conservée de ses secrets remplis de drames d'antan. La mer qui aura été chantée, conté, moquée parfois quand le scénariste Michel Audiard fera dire à Jean Gabin dans " mélodie en sous-sol":"ne t'extasie pas sur la mer…, elle a toujours été là !". Pourtant qu'elle est belle en son bleu royale, majestueuse en son étendue d'apparence infinie. Alors, j'y ai mis des premiers plans fleuris pour donner à l'image et à l'œil un effet relief que donnent la carotte sauvage ou la rosa Rugosa en son exquise effluve suave. Le vent léger, en ce jour, fait danser et tournoyer en farandoler les herbes et fleurs de côte pour en produire une fragrance sauvage d'iode et d'abricot qui se mélangent et s'épousent. En bord de plage des vagues finissantes se fondent parfois en l'image du sourire, et le cormoran qui s'en échappe avec sa pitance en garde le souvenir de cette forme aimable par l'élégance de son envole qui lui est semblable.
Plus tard au petit port des marins s'accordent pour restaurer des filets de pèches endommagés. Alors on s'étale au sol en étale pour y trouver la faille et retricoter le bleu sur le fil rouge et le fil jaune sur le bleu… enfin je crois que c'est peut-être comme ça !
Au matin au chalet quelques roses ont fait maquillage et parfum de choix. Quelle belle parure fine, élégante, façon robe de reine d'autrefois. Mais la beauté est souvent éphémère, le souvenir seul la garde en imaginaire.
En après-midi d'une de ces journées, on trouve en fouillant les chemins un superbe champ de blé encore vert, sur falaise et avec un fond de mer. Le tracteur a fait des sentiers naturels qui me permettent d'y aller fureter. Là je découvre des gouttes de sang qui survolent en surface ça et là au ras des épis. Des coquelicots qui dansent au vents enivrés et qui voudraient quelque peu frayer avec des touffes de marguerites qui ne veulent pas en être effeuillées. De hauts épis d'ivraie d'apparence, voudraient supplanter les cocardes cramoisies par un relief comme pour plonger, mais il n'en reste de tout cela qu'une image telle un tableau. Alors je m'approche de la falaise escarpée. Des vagues houleuses sont en assaut des roches comme pour les ronger sauvagement. Des mouettes profitent de vents forts pour se laisser porter comme dans un jeu et tournoient en carrousel jusqu'à se laisser plonger vers une proie nageante. Deux sillons de roues se font chemins de fer pour aller vers nulle part, là où l'escarpement chute dans l'abîme de la Manche.
Nous quittons ce bel endroit pour nous reposer sur la plage en désert. Les falaises nous regardent impassiblement . Je fais quelques images d'un monticule de pierres vêtues d'algues pour habiller mon horizon de fond de mer.
Plus loin au port d'autres algues échouées semblent former l'armada d'un débarquement sans suite. Et sur le ponton, les mouettes effrayées de mon approche, s'envolent en colère comme une rémanence magique.

Une série de tours séculaires jalonne toute la côte sud de l'Espagne. Certaines sont encore debout. L'une des tours les mieux conservées se trouve à La Línea de la Concepción.
La Torrenueva est le seul vestige intact des anciennes tours de guet qui protégeaient autrefois la côte du détroit à La Linea de la Concepcion. L'édifice a été classé Bien d'Intérêt Culturel (BIC) en 1985.

La structure qui fait partie des 44 tours aux caractéristiques similaires qui jalonnent la côte espagnole, du fleuve Guadiaro jusqu'à la frontière portugaise, donnant sur la mer, comprend une pièce située à environ quatre mètres au-dessus du sol. De là, les soldats surveillaient constamment le sud, où l'Afrique se trouve à une quinzaine de kilomètres. Les gardes qui occupaient la tour envoyaient des signaux de fumée pour avertir la population locale des attaques de pirates berbères. Au sommet de chaque tour, il y avait toujours un fagot de bois sec prêt à être brûlé immédiatement en cas de danger, transmettant ainsi le signal d'alarme aux tours voisines. Toutes ces tours ont été construits sous le règne de Philippe III, ainsi que d'autres situées le long de la côte méditerranéenne, de Malaga à la Catalogne.
