I never give up!

Another day of hellish climbs before reaching Bandon, OR. Safely crossed the bridge over Coos Bay. Sunny but chilly day. Not much scenery on this leg.

My son was having a hard time conquering his fear of falling to the ground and hurting himself. I offered to help him but he wanted to do it on his own. He ended up CONQUERING his fear. What a great way to start off the new year.

First few photos from our family break in Center Parcs Elvedon. What a super kid and adult friendly holiday.

The view from the Grade I Listed Lincoln Castle, in Lincoln, Lincolnshire.

Lincoln Castle was built during the late 11th century by William the Conqueror on the site of a pre-existing Roman fortress. The castle is unusual in that it has two mottes. It is only one of two such castles in the country, the other being at Lewes in Sussex.

When William the Conqueror defeated Harold Godwinson and the English at The Battle of Hastings on 14 October 1066, he continued to face resistance to his rule in the north of England. For several years, William's position was very insecure. To project his influence northwards to control the people of the Danelaw, he constructed a few major castles in the north and midlands of England. It was at this time major castles at Warwick, Nottingham, and York were built. After gaining control of York, the Conqueror turned southwards and arrived at the Roman and Viking city of Lincoln.

When William reached Lincoln, he found a Viking commercial and trading centre with a population of 6,000 to 8,000. The remains of the old Roman walled fortress located 60 metres above the countryside to the south and west, proved an ideal strategic position to construct a new castle. Lincoln represented a vital strategic crossroads of the the same routes which influenced the siting of the Roman fort: Ermine Street, Fosse Way, Valley of the River Trent, River Witham & Lincolnshire Wolds

A castle here could guard several of the main strategic routes and form part of a network of strongholds of the Norman kingdom to control the country internally. Also, it could form a centre from which troops could be sent to repel Scandinavian landings anywhere on the coast from the Trent to the Welland, to a large extent, by using the roads which the Romans had constructed for the same purpose.

The castle was the focus of attention during the First Battle of Lincoln which occurred on 2 February 1141, during the struggle between King Stephen and Empress Matilda over who should be monarch in England. It was held but damaged, and a new tower, called the Lucy Tower, was built.

Lincoln Castle was again the site of a siege followed by the Second Battle of Lincoln, on 20 May 1217, during the reign of King John in the First Barons' War. This was the period of political struggle which led to the signing of Magna Carta on 15 June 1215.

As in Norwich and other places, the castle was used as a secure site in which to establish a prison. At Lincoln, the prison Gaol was built in 1787 and extended in 1847. Imprisoned debtors were allowed some social contact but the regime for criminals was designed to be one of isolation, according to the separate system. Consequently, the seating in the prison chapel is designed to enclose each prisoner individually so that the preacher could see everyone, but each could see only him. By 1878 the system was discredited, and the inmates were transferred to the new jail in the eastern outskirts of Lincoln.

Once I am on this pic, I can't credit it to me... LOL. But the edition is mine.

This photo was taken after a long and intense climb to the peak of Lion's Head. This mountain, located next to the iconic Table Mountain, overlooks Cape Town, South Africa and the Atlantic Ocean.

This photograph was sent to me by Peter LeClercq after I had left the regiment. On the back he has written:- "Don't let a Russian get hold of this picture"! I don't think it really matters anymore!

Pictured in front of the tank are Cpl. Blamford and L/Cpl. Kingsley.

CEA Racing in Collaboration with Jet Black Racing finished off the season in style with two wins from two races at the Bang Saen Festival of Speed.

Bang Saen is a tight and twisty street circuit, not dissimilar to Monaco or Macau as the track is so narrow crashes are frequent and makes for an exciting spectacle.

CEA’s #1 driver Thomas Raldorf was competing in the Endurance race series in a separate car, this left a vacant spot in the now famous #29 CEA Race Car. Anders Majgaard and his team from Jet Black Racing duly filled the vacancy and delivered a perfect weekend with a virtuoso performance from the Danish Dynamo.

The Qualifying session was an action packed event with several crashes resulting in the safety car making an entrance on numerous occasions. Anders managed through all the chaos to post the third fastest time. As the lights went out the cars raced to the first corner, the obligatory pile up ensued, Anders narrowly missed a major accident just glancing one of the slower cars, although a couple of places were lost these were soon regained as Anders and the #29 car blew away all the competition to finish the race 17 seconds clear of the field. Damage had been sustained to the front right of the car however the CEA mechanics led by Sven Thummel worked well in to the night to fix and patch up the car.

A very hot Sunday morning greeted the teams, with the car repaired it was time to challenge for another win. Yesterday’s grid had been reversed so Anders would start 5th, but this didn’t seem to trouble him as Anders proved his skill at starts by catching two cars by the first corner! The lead cars soon succumb to some sublime overtaking moves and as a flurry of crashes and safety cars went behind him, Anders coasted to victory under yellow flags much to the delight of Jet Black Racing Manger Peter Jaeger.

As always during the scrutineering in Parc Ferme the team held their breath until the final result was official, delight filled the pits as the result was announced and a cold beer or two was had. CEA & Jet Black Racing had come to this potentially tricky track and conquered all. Thomas Raldorf Team manager of CEA Racing said “This weekend was the icing on the cake and the cherry on top for 2014, a fantastic drive by Anders and once again the CEA mechanics showed their worth with their continued effort and commitment”

Planning will now start on the 2015 season and regaining the driver’s championship…….
