In the first installment of my "Conquered" project, I introduce you to Rosie. Rosie is a Chilean Rose Hair Tarantula who lives in the Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster, CO. For over 20 years I have been absolutely petrified of spiders. My arachnophobia was so severe that simply seeing a spider in my room could set off hours of panic attacks. After some self-motivated exposure therapy and research, this last weekend I was finally able to hold Rosie in my hands. It is hard to explain how massive of an accomplishment this was for me, and while it is insignificant in the grand scheme of things, it gives me hope that I can overcome other deeply embedded fears and anxieties in my life. That is where this new project comes in. I will attempt to face some of my greatest fears in life and come back not only still breathing, but with breathtaking photographic evidence. :)
