Many of us in the Old Dominion received the good word that Engineer John Stone will be retiring after 43 years of service on the railroad. "JS", as the heads up was always put out when he was at the throttle, always had a friendly wave and an extra horn salute for those of us trackside. I know I join all of us in ODR territory in saying congratulations, and we'll miss seeing you out there on the high iron.
The pond at bottom was created by a log jam at water intake structure beside railway tracks.

The transient killer whale pictured above is one of my favorites. Her family was featured in a National Geographic TV special The Secret Killers of Monterey Bay. This particular pod or family group of killer whales was just spotted in Monterey Bay last Monday with a brand new baby! I've been photographing this pod for over 8 years in Monterey Bay. They are truly a magnificient group of whales with a great curiosity and deadly skills. I look forward to heading down to Monterey this weekend with hopes of seeing them.

My usual 3 exp-shot (-2..0..+2) EV. Not sure why I even do this in HDR. Anyway, here it is! My brand new DSLR camera in HDR!
This weekend, I bought my first DSLR! It's the brand new Canon EOS Rebel T1i along with the brand new Sigma 10-20mm F3.5 EX DC HSM. This is not a 5D Mark II, but it will do for now. I just need a Canon body for my new Sigma wide angle lens. Although, it came with the 18-55mm kit lens, I don't see that I will use it much. Anyway, I will be out trying out my new camera on this beautiful Sunday. Hopefully, I know how to turn on this camera. It's certainly turning me on!
