Oh! The heartbreak of split ends and the hair conditioner fails to work. What to do? What to do? This shot has clearly been shook and zoomed slightly while it propagates. I like the bony fingers of the bloom.
It has been two years since Phil and I enjoyed the Frogmont fireworks and showed up at a bit late so we were lucky to get a spot on the hill. Longmont bagged fireworks in the last forest fire year. I humped the tripod over a few feet. Single shots really called for the 70-200 zoom. That lens is peaches but more work than I care to carry! After switching to hand holding long exposures for the carney and Christmas lights, I had great luck so I had that in mind this year.
I started out at 7:00 in the evening but I should have started much earlier AND scouted the venue because I had to scramble to get anything at all last night. Each episode is a learning experience and I might make a list of pointers in a comment.
I set out to test more multiple exposures on the D700 but never got there. I was trying to get anything. I had to settle for individual exposures. I worked to pretty well fill the frame in Photoshop. There were too many crap shoots. After slipping them into Photoshop, I adjusted for the exact perspective for better presentation. The fine coloration was really untouched. I tried to eliminate distracting lights. I didn't even need to jamb hell out of color balance and pump the saturations. I left them untouched.
This shot is clearly zoomed even though the EXIF relates 70mm. That must be logged at the end of an exposure. The zoom effect increases at the perimeter of frame and the jiggles were milder at wide angle but lights crept into wide shots. I need to get closer. I did a zoom along with intentional jiggles AND movement to add to the action. I am going to try as many as I can snag. Reality is highly overrated.
I never have finished my previous color lights or rose garden experiments. I will take the opportunity to try out more tricks before the next fair rides. I am still not out of snaps of other subjects but I hope my breadth has expanded. I did vewwy, vewwy wittle warping and editing, for me at least, to present these the way I wanted. I have learned to slow the camera down even further to three seconds this time but I boosted the lens setting to f:/22. Three seconds is about enough to accomplish a wide array of tricks if prepared and prepanned so to speak. Of course this digital experimentation is cheap. I had fun shooting all of these and they were a breeze to edit! I get mostly muted colors in the ag settings I have shot, so I revel in JUST COLORS. And this title DOES have a nice touch for the actual scene, don't you think? I spent two hours giving this stuff titled.

Counter-Strike: Condition Zero (CS:CZ or CZ) is a multiplayer video game and the follow-up to Counter-Strike. The game was released in 2004 using the GoldSrc Half-Life engine. CS:CZ features a multiplayer mode, which features updated character models, textures, maps and other graphical tweaks. Unlike other Counter-Strike games, Condition Zero also contains a single-player mission pack with the player unlocking maps and more efficient bots as they pass certain requirements for each map while playing as a counter terrorist. These requirements include targets such as "kill 3 enemies with a glock" or "win a round in 45 seconds". Condition Zero also introduces the Counter-Strike bot.
As of 2008, the game is one of the ten most played Half-Life modifications in terms of players, according to GameSpy.

I ran into one of these at a local "Shop&Save" grocery store in Des Plaines, IL, and then I remembered the Reznor family owned an air conditioner company, so I snapped a shot. :P
"Trent is a direct descendant of George Reznor, founder of the Reznor Company (founded 1888), a heating and air conditioning company. Although the family sold the business in the 1960s, Reznor equipment is still manufactured in Trent's hometown of Mercer, Pennsylvania." -- Wikipedia

Madame René de Gas, 1872/1873
Edgar Degas
West Building, Main Floor — Gallery 86
Degas painted this moving portrait of his first cousin and sister-in-law, Estelle de Gas, in New Orleans, where she lived. Estelle was nearly blind, and Degas, whose own vision was deteriorating, was deeply affected by her condition.
The portrait may suggest dimming vision. The light is diffuse, the details blurred. And the palette of grays, pinks, and whites is almost monochromatic (one color). But the painting does not allow us to enter fully into Estelle’s experience. Positioned off center, she faces to the side. Her eyes seem unfocused, and her expression betrays nothing of what she is thinking or feeling. Isolated and withdrawn, she is unknowable.
The impressionist style was incompatible with Degas' meticulous paint handling and premeditated method of composing, and he preferred "independent" or "realist" to "impressionist" as the name of the movement. Degas did help establish and direct the impressionist organization, however, and participated in seven of the eight exhibitions. He selected insistently modern themes -- ballet dancers, laundresses, prostitutes, cafés and café-concerts, and racetracks -- and depicted them in numerous variations. One other recurring genre was portraiture. Degas selected family and friends as models rather than paint commissioned portraits, and his portraits are often unconventional characterizations. This portrait of Estelle Musson Balfour de Gas, the artist's first cousin and sister-in-law, was painted during Degas' 1872-1873 visit to New Orleans.
The 1871 discovery of the deterioration of his own vision sensitized the artist to Estelle's near-blindness when he visited the next year. Posture, gesture, accessories, and activities were often used by Degas to characterize the models in his portraits. Such incidental details were deliberately omitted here, a similarly informative decision. The soft focus of the painting, subdued and nearly monochromatic color harmonies, and Estelle's unfocused gaze parallel her limited visual capacity and indicate the artist's respect for Estelle and compassionate understanding of her situation.

The National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC is a world-class art museum that displays one of the largest collections of masterpieces in the world including paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, sculpture, and decorative arts from the 13th century to the present. The National Gallery of Art collection includes an extensive survey of works of American, British, Italian, Flemish, Spanish, Dutch, French and German art. With its prime location on the National Mall, surrounded by the Smithsonian Institution, visitors often think that the museum is a part of the Smithsonian. It is a separate entity and is supported by a combination of private and public funds. Admission is free. The museum offers a wide range of educational programs, lectures, guided tours, films, and concerts.
The original neoclassical building, the West Building includes European (13th-early 20th century) and American (18th-early 20th century) paintings, sculptures, decorative arts, and temporary exhibitions. The National Gallery of Art was opened to the public in 1941 with funds provided by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The original collection of masterpieces was provided by Mellon, who was the U. S. Secretary of the Treasury and ambassador to Britain in the 1930s. Mellon collected European masterpieces and many of the Gallery’s original works were once owned by Catherine II of Russia and purchased in the early 1930s by Mellon from the Hermitage Museum in Leningrad.
The core collection includes major works of art donated by Paul Mellon, Ailsa Mellon Bruce, Lessing J. Rosenwald, Samuel Henry Kress, Rush Harrison Kress, Peter Arrell Browne Widener, Joseph E. Widener, and Chester Dale. The Gallery's collection of paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, sculpture, medals, and decorative arts traces the development of Western art from the Middle Ages to the present, including the only painting by Leonardo da Vinci in the Americas and the largest mobile created by Alexander Calder.
The NGA's collection galleries and Sculpture Garden display European and American paintings, sculpture, works on paper, photographs, and decorative arts. Paintings in the permanent collection date from the Middle Ages to the present. The Italian Renaissance collection includes two panels from Duccio's Maesta, the tondo of the Adoration of the Magi by Fra Angelico and Filippo Lippi, a Botticelli work on the same subject, Giorgione's Allendale Nativity, Giovanni Bellini's The Feast of the Gods, Ginevra de' Benci (the only painting by Leonardo da Vinci in the Americas) and groups of works by Titian and Raphael.
The collections include paintings by many European masters, including a version of Saint Martin and the Beggar, by El Greco, and works by Matthias Grünewald, Cranach the Elder, Rogier van der Weyden, Albrecht Dürer, Frans Hals, Rembrandt, Johannes Vermeer, Francisco Goya, Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres, and Eugène Delacroix, among others. The collection of sculpture and decorative arts includes such works as the Chalice of Abbot Suger of St-Denis and a collection of work by Auguste Rodin and Edgar Degas. Other highlights of the permanent collection include the second of the two original sets of Thomas Cole's series of paintings titled The Voyage of Life, (the first set is at the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute in Utica, New York) and the original version of Watson and the Shark by John Singleton Copley (two other versions are in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Detroit Institute of Arts).

Andrew W. Mellon, who pledged both the resources to construct the National Gallery of Art as well as his high-quality art collection, is rightly known as the founder of the gallery. But his bequest numbered less than two hundred paintings and sculptures—not nearly enough to fill the gallery’s massive rooms. This, however, was a feature, not a failure of Mellon’s vision; he anticipated that the gallery eventually would be filled not only by his own collection, but also by additional donations from other private collectors. By design, then, it was both Andrew Mellon and those who followed his lead—among them, eight men and women known as the Founding Benefactors—to whom the gallery owes its premier reputation as a national art museum. At the gallery’s opening in 1941, President Roosevelt stated, “the dedication of this Gallery to a living past, and to a greater and more richly living future, is the measure of the earnestness of our intention that the freedom of the human spirit shall go on.”
