Today was beyond interesting. (yup it's a rant day)

I had Before and After TV, I had no idea what it was when i scheduled for it. It will be about the history of media, thus I'm thinking I will enjoy it.

Afterward I mozied over to the MCAD computer help desk to have CS5 updated onto my computer. Plus as a bonus I got my hardware updated to Snow Leopard (if that means something to you bravo.. i have no idea what it means) I had heard a rumor that they would be wiping the computers. Ironically last night my external hard drive stopped being recognized on my computer. I told the computer guy this and that if he did need to wipe everything I will just come back later. He said no and that he would personally make sure it didn't happen. Thus I signed a contract stating that if anything went wrong I can't sue or freak out at the computer desk.

So what happened? Yup you guessed it. My computer got wiped... I have lost everything, important papers for bills, music, all of my photos, gone. Well hopefully not cause they are trying to fix my external hard drive in apology but they said I shouldn't keep my hopes up. They also told me I was surprisingly calm... little did they know I was resisting from ether crying or flipping the table.

So there went the day I was going to do a lot of homework. I putzed around the house stressed and just plain tired.

I'm in for a loooong weekend.

P.S.

yet another photo I enjoy... :)

This is my now finished home built Z80 based computer in an earlier state. 32K RAM, 16K ROM, 4 MHz.

Yellow wires are address wires, red wires are data wires and black wires are miscellaneous.

I began building it in the beginning of 1990 as an evening activity with the local Young Scientists club. At the time of this photo It's almost finished, apart from the clock-circuit, programming and debugging. The only hardware it lacks is capacitors for the clocks and the IC's, and some wiring for the serial interface.

Update May 14 2011 - I found the block drawing for it and the design for the clock circuit so I now know what capacitor I need to make it tick. Yay!

Update June 2021 - Finally got it working after thoroughly checking all the wirings and getting inspiration from the vast resources of internet.

These computers are at my grandson's school.

This was Pentium 3 machine. The motherboard had already plenty of stability problems and it totally stopped working when I was playing with it and legos. The MB was from small size Fujitsu desktop. Everything was integerated to one MB. If I remember correctly, it was running Slackware 10.0.

The computer commons is two levels high and rarely are there empty computers. Open 24 hours a day, students can access the commons using their student ID.

The first program the kids used was Wonder Pets join the Circus. A great program from the Apple Store that helps teach colors, math, spelling, and basic mouse skills.
