CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer I30 CPU Cooler: $34.98 from SuperBiiz.com ... After having to upgrade CPU coolers TWICE IN A MONTH with my old computer Hades, due to cat hairs, I knew not to bother skimping out this time. I want straight for the more expensive, more large, $40 aftermarket cooler. Unfortunately, it was so large it blocked a RAM slot, and due to the way RAM works in this motherboard, that means not being able to use 2 RAM slots. But my motherboard has 8 RAM slots. I just wish I hadn't bought 4G SIMMS, because 6 * 4G = 24G, and being maxed out at 24G RAM kinda sucks when I regularly break 30G of actual-memory-used. If I could have used those 2 extra slots, I'd be up to 32G of RAM. If I had bought 8G SIMMS, I could have gotten 24G of RAM, and then upgraded up to 48G. But I'm stuck with 24G, and not wanting to spend $300 just to get to 32G (by virtue of having to re-buy all-8G SIMMS). BACKSTORY: Building my new computer! We decided to name it Thailog. Thailog ("Goliath" spelled backwards) is the evil twin of Goliath from the cartoon Gargoyles. Carolyn's computer is named after Goliath, so it just makes sense that Clint's computer is the evil twin of Carolyn's computer. A quick summary of the computer's specs is: Intel Core i7-5820K Haswell-E 6-Core 3.3GHz with an Arctic Freezer I30 cooler on a ASRock X99 WS EATX motherboard with 24G of Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4 2400mHz RAM, a Radeon R9 270 video card, and a Crucial M500 240GB M.2 SSD...all inside a massive NZXT Phantom 820 case. This is a photograph from the first running of the Trim AC Bewley's 10 Mile Road Race which was held on Sunday 1st February 2015 at 12:00 in Trim, Co. Meath, Ireland. This race also incorporated the 2015 Meath 10 Mile Road Championships. For the first staging of this event this was an incredible success with almost 800 runners, joggers and walkers talking to the start line. The weather was perfect for running despite the bitter cold temperatures with air temperature of 4C recorded at the start. Some beautiful Spring sunshine helped brighten the day and the roads were clear and dry for racing.

The race started on the Trim Athboy Road (the R154) and headed towards the town before making a left turn onto the Trim Dunderry road. The one mile mark comes just after a Y-junction which the race joins back to before the final 600 meters to the finish. Heading north to Dunderry the route takes a left in the middle of the village and heads west for 2 miles on the Dunderry Athboy road. At the next major junction the race takes another left turning south towards Trim town again. One of the only significant hills/drags of the course happens at around the 6.5 mile marker. Miles 7 - 9 are ran on winding roads with nice hedgerows and shelter from any breeze. During these miles you will begin to see the spire of Trim church in the distance. At the Y-Junction from mile one you have 600 meters to go with a final right turn into the industrial estate and the finish line.
The success of today's race is not an accident. Trim AC, and their army of volunteers and help from other Meath athletic clubs, put in huge work to make this race a success.
Today's race adds significantly to Trim AC's reputation for top quality organisation of race events. The 10 mile road race today follows on from the Braveheart 5KM Trail Race which is held annually in June around the beautiful and historical fields of Porchfields and Trim Castle. Today's race could be the begining of one of the region's largest and most popular 10 mile road races.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. This is a view of the router and modem mounted beneath the desk surface. Used 18 gauge wire to secure them to the pegboard. The wooden block was wood-glue to the undersurface of the desk to slightly elevate the main desk surface. I then screwed the leg mounts to these blocks.
COVID-19 Self Isolation - My Computer Desk
I miss these guys. Cambridge Soundworks sold some great stuff that wasn't super expensive. This is one little speaker on my computer desk. I bought this speaker system for my computer (two small ones that sit on the desk and a small subwoofer under the desk) over 20 years ago. Although the plastic, which used to be white, has yellowed considerably, these speakers are still going strong. As I recall, this was the cheapest/smallest 3-speaker (2.1) system called PC Works.

It's late and dark outside. I'm alone in the in the office, waiting for for a ride home, and had a look-see around. Found this on the tech guy's desk, the top bit is a fan, and the bottom bit looks rather impressive, with all that coppery tubing.

This is a Xerox Alto, which inspired the Mac and the SUN and featured useful things like Ethernet and a mouse and utterly failed to get properly commercialized by Xerox, which is why my computer has an Apple logo on it instead of an X.
It looks a little like something from some secret lab. The enclosure has a partial clear panel on the left side that is kind of cool. It is a little hard to photograph because of the flat black finish.
It has Windows 7, the latest version. It is really fast. So far it is working fine. Every time I get a new computer, it takes quite a bit to get it set up for my ease of use. Did I mention that it is really fast?
Because I know someone will ask, I have the new Intel i5 CPU on an ASUS motherboard P7P55D. Two hard drives, 500 GB each; 4GB RAM expandable to 8GB; one optical drive. The enclosure is an Antec 902 with an Antec 650 watt power supply.
I've got the Microsoft Office Pro 2007 Suite coming in the mail.
