A return to some urbex at one of my favorite places, the old Naval Test Station Jet Lab. This shot of grunge and decay was taken about a half hour before and a half mile away from a recent post of a beautiful farm sunset.
Built in 1938 and with a surprisingly good roof on the larger building considering the quarry closed in1969.

Building 302, the North Unit's "Forge" and "Melt Shop" looking west, approximately two months after construction began. The traincar closest to camera reads: "American Bridge Co. Erecting Department Compressor No. 18." American Bridge Company produced all the steel framework for the Naval Ordnance Plant. A C&O train, possibly carrying coal, steams westward in the background.

CONTEXT:
Less than a year after construction began, the North Unit of the Naval Ordnance Plant (referred to as the "projectile plant" in its earliest literature) was complete and had been dubbed operational as of that May. The first ingot of steel was poured from the furnaces of Building 302 on June 8, 1918.
