I went with a friend to the Rodaun Cement Factory here in Vienna. Since the factory closed in 1996, the buildings have largely stood empty - visited only by vagrants and other urban explorers. For many years there were plans to build a series of apartments, but these plans never materialized until recently. Much of the main factory is no longer standing and is now ruins, but across the street still stand a few old buildings. This is a photo of what we found there.

Gear damage inside is the root cause; replacement out of Memphis, down for a week for the part in transit (savings for non-rush transit: $120) + 1-2 days for install. Target for return to service: Friday, 9/16/11.
The part of the gear in the foreground is what came out of the compressor upon removal from the engine.
