Governor Kay Ivey gave remarks at the completion ceremony for the US-82 Rebuild Alabama Project at Indian Hills Country Club Friday January 31, 2025 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The first of the four initial, major Rebuild Alabama projects announced by Governor Ivey, this 2.77-mile section of US-82 from SR-69 to Rice Mine Road serves as a main corridor for more than 50,000 vehicles per day. ALDOT added additional travel lanes, improved access management to help traffic flow and introduced a shared-use path for bicyclists and pedestrians.(Governor’s Office /Hal Yeager)

One of the biggest hurdles to holding community activities in our area has been the lack of public spaces. In response to the pressing need for a community meeting place, we’ve designed and constructed a semi-permanent, multi-use structure dubbed “the community classroom”.

This space will be used by us to run English classes and other community trainings, by a local pastor as a small church, and by the vibrant civil society in our area when they want to hold meetings and events.

We’re looking forward not only to having a community location for our own events but to seeing what the local residents do with the space. This will be the first time community has had any kind of a public space.
