August 19, 2025 - Albany, NY - Governor Kathy Hochul today joined local leaders and company executives to cut the ribbon on Micro Bird’s new U.S. manufacturing facility in Plattsburgh, Clinton County. Micro Bird — a joint venture between Blue Bird Corporation and Girardin, the largest manufacturer of small school buses in North America — has officially launched operations at the former Nova Bus facility on Banker Road, which the company repurposed following Nova Bus’s planned exit from Plattsburgh. Atlantic Cape Community College celebrated the completion of its 2.2 megawatt solar photovoltaic project at the Cape May County Campus Oct. 10.
The project began in June at the college’s Mays Landing and Cape May County campuses. Marina Energy LLC, a subsidiary of South Jersey Industries, designed and constructed the project, which will generate up to 48 percent of Atlantic Cape’s total annual electric consumption.
The photovoltaic system includes carports in four parking lots on the two campuses.
Catholic church for the Parish of West Melbourne. One of the most architecturally and historically significant churches in Australia, it has been a parish since 1873, although the site served as a mission from the construction of the first church in 1854.
Demand for a larger building was fueled by a growing Catholic population in the area; the foundation stone for the current church was laid in 1882. A shortage of funds among other reasons halted progress and construction of the building did not commence until 1892, ironically during the 1890's Depression. The church was opened in 1900 by Cardinal Moran, although completion of the building was not until 1925.
In recent years extensive restoration work has been undertaken both inside and out.

Equipment to be installed soon

With the landscaping work done and concrete down, Ironton’s soon-to-be skate park is a little closer to an opening date.
Workers completed the landscaping for the park, located at Fourth and Etna streets over the weekend, Mayor Rich Blankenship said.
Concrete work for the park was completed about two months ago.
The city also already has the skating equipment that will be installed in the park. Sometime this month a representative from the company that makes the equipment will supervise its installation.
“We want to do it the way the manufacturer calls for it,” Blankenship said.
Blankenship is planning to have a grand opening event for the park, though no tentative date has been set.
The park is being paid for with grant and donated funds.
Ironton City Council recently approved a resolution to transfer $30,000 from the general fund to the recreation department for the completion of the park.
The money will be reimbursed to the city through a grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
The council also recently heard the first reading of an ordinance establishing rules and regulations at the park. According to the proposed rules, the park will be open from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. and park-goers will skate at their own risk

George Chancellor had opened a tavern at this spot in 1816 after the completion of the Orange Turnpike. George died in the 1830’s and his widow in 1860, but Chancellorsville still dominated the intersection. It was a single large two and a half story brick building. A seventy acre clearing west of the Inn was the largest in the Wilderness.
Fannie Pound Chancellor, the widow of George’s brother, was living at Chancellorsville in 1863 with her young son and six unmarried daughters. This had made Chancellorsville a popular destination for the young beaus of Lee’s Army. But the Federals who occupied the house for General Hooker’s headquarters during the battle found the residents (and several local neighbors who had taken refuge there) to be “not at all abashed or intimidated, scolded audibly and reviled bitterly.”
Not everyone scorned the Federals. The building caught fire from Confederate artillery in the fierce fighting of May 3. Union Colonel Joesph Dickinson, one of General Hooker’s staff, led the sixteen civilians from their shelter in the cellar and escorted them through the artillery barrage to safety. Colonel Dickinson shepherded his flock safely to United States Ford before wishing them godspeed and turning them over to a chaplain. Fourteen year old Sue Chancellor had seen her family piano used as an operating table. She walked past piles of amputated limbs in the yard outside before looking back one last time to see her home “completely enveloped in flames.” She had nothing but praise for Dickinson, writing, “A nobler, braver, kindlier gentleman never lived.”**

This is a photo of two hikers (tree boy and soccer mom) embracing at the northern terminus after a Sept. nobo completion. They met for the first time at the hostel in big bear and became fast friends.
This moment was especially incredible because mountain weather had stunted everyone’s final push to finish; and in an incredible effort of fitness and determination, soccer mom ground out 60 miles in a day and half to catch his tramily at the monument. He was welcomed to Canada by tunnel arch of 30 hikers waiting to celebrate with him that then turned into a massive group hug.

The Cathedral of Cartagena in Colombia is located in the historic center of Cartagena. It is the episcopal see of the Archbishop of Cartagena de Indias, one of the oldest episcopal sees in the Americas. The cathedral is dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria.
The cathedral was designed by master builder Simón González, modeled after basilicas in Andalusia and the Canary Islands. The present tower was designed by French architect Gastón Lelarge, the result of remodelling in the early twentieth century. Construction began in 1577, replacing a humble cathedral of straw and reeds.
In 1586, while the church was still under construction, it was attacked by the English privateer Francis Drake, which caused severe damage and delayed its completion. The building was finished in 1612.
The cathedral has a fine doorway and a simply decorated interior. It contains an 18th-century gilded altar, a Carrara marble pulpit and elegant arcades sustaining the central nave.

Congratulations to our high potential EOP students on their completion of their residential bridge experience. Our convocation took place on Sunday, December 3, 2017. Back in the summer of 2016, most of these students were admitted to our campus by EOP as "special-admit" freshmen. This means that CSU rejected these students due to their low grades in high school, but EOP leaders recognized their high potential. For a summer plus three semesters, EOP leaders provided support services, especially mentors, to help these students develop their potential. These students have proven to be high-achieving individuals.

Completion of Middlesex College brought a new dimension to the campus scene – SOUND. On October 11, 1960 workmen began installation of the clock faces in the tower. Each one weighed 400 pounds and had a diameter of 8 feet. Manufactured by Gillett and Johnston of London England, the bells had a combined weight of over 3 tons and chime in tones EBEFG sharp. In 2007 the bells were decommissioned due to expensive repairs needed to refurbish the bell hammers.

In addition to TypographyShop and my design practice I've had another life as a painter. I'd posted this series on my personal facebook page and thought I'd add it here as well.
FB album note:
I was honored to be awarded a commission from Greg Graffin, founder and lead singer of the seminal punk band Bad Religion as well as author of the upcoming Anarchy Evolution, coming this fall from Harper Collins, for which I also happened to design a number of book cover treatments as well, which I'll throw in the mix.
Greg and I met through a mutual friend, we both grew up in Racine, Wisconsin a few years apart. Not only had I spent a great deal of time hanging out in his neighborhood, but years later I painted the very schoolyard where Greg and his pals spent their days and nights.
My painting Gulf patrickking.org/gulf.htm reminded Greg of Bad Religion's album cover for Suffer and we began discussing me undertaking a commission of his father's home.
I thought I'd put this album together to document the progress.
