A pair of Ravens or Crows in a compilation as they chased back and forth, apparently in disagreement as to who would get to keep the prize. At first I thought Ravens but as I look further thinking they are Crows not Ravens. Finding the tail distinction not clear as they appear different in each photo. Both were similar in size. Opinion?

Merry Christmas!
It’s that time of year, where, following a tradition started a few years back, I present my favorite photos. These do not necessarily represent the photos which generated the most likes, or the greatest number of comments. But they are the ones I feel most reflect my photographic tastes at this point in time. It’s pretty obvious that landscapes and nature predominate. I hope you enjoy these.
Presented in chronological order, left to right, top to bottom.
The first photo up is a cold, early morning scene along the Waccamaw River here in Conway, South Carolina.Later in the year, flooding from Hurricane Florence would inundate this area, completely topping the boardwalk on the right, and damaging the buildings along the shore.
The next image was shot nearby, at the Waccamaw River Park. This area would be flooded as well, and is still closed as I put this list together.
I love photographing birds, or should I say, attempting to photograph them. I caught this flight of Dunlins at Huntington Beach State Park.
One of the larger annual events in Myrtle Beach is the ‘Run to the Sun’ car show. With several thousand cars on display, it’s easy to find an interesting subject to photograph.
In early spring we paid a visit to Savannah, Georgia. This peaceful tree-lined drive was photographed at the Wormsloe State Historic Site, just outside the city.
Another spring trip took us to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Our first day was a bit surprising, as we arrived just after a late snow had blanketed the trees.

As the year wore on, and the weather turned warm (okay, hot), I had the chance to photograph dragonflies. These amazing insects have become a favorite of mine, which is why two of them made my favorites list. This first one is a Blue Dasher.
Warmer weather ushers in breeding season for many creatures. This shot of an adult and a juvenile Great Egret was one of my most liked photographs of the year.
The very first dragonfly I photographed after moving to South Carolina was a Halloween Pennant, and I never tire of seeing them and trying to get an even better shot. This one posed nicely for me, while I snapped away.
Another favorite subject of mine is the beach. While I generally avoid the beach during the hot summer months, I find myself drawn there in September to view and photograph the sunrise. This first beach photo was taken a little before the sun rose.
After catching the sunrise, I hung around to see what the light would do with the clouds and the waters surface. By the time I took this photo, a number of people had shown up to enjoy the morning.
Hurricane Florence chased us out of South Carolina in September, but provided the perfect excuse to visit Tennessee. The waterfalls at Rock Island State Park are always a beautiful sight, and provide lots of photographic opportunities.
Returning to South Carolina after the storm, I resumed my search for interesting photo ops at one of my favorites places, Brookgreen Gardens. There’s always something to see and photograph, and on this day, a small Silver Orb Weaver was a perfect subject.
I started this list with a photograph from a cold morning, and I’ll finish it with another. It had been 15 years since our last sojourn in New Mexico, but in November we returned to visit friends, eat great New Mexican food, and photograph the amazing scenery. I will long remember this freezing cold morning at Bosque del Apache NWR, viewing the Sandhill Cranes as the sun rose over a misty landscape. I hope to return again in 2019.
