That time of year to throw up a compilation. Thanks for all your words of encouragement over 2017.

I wish you good health, happiness, and success in the coming year.

A composite of images taken during a rare lunar eclipse.

From a distance I could see multiple fireworks shows still going on in the burbs.

And astrophotography image compilation of some of my and @TheAstroShake's work - featured on www.photographingspace.com

Finally decided I'd give this a go and I can see why so many people do it, it's so fun and you can get some really cool results. I thought I'd make a little compilation of a few of my favourites rather than upload 20 of them hahah

The top one was reflected off a red to orange gradient printed on A4

The second one was on a rainbow gradient on A4

And the last one is an Aboriginal dot painting on A4, but you can't really tell with the crop. I thought this would be cool since I'm part Aboriginal..

Enjoy!

Built from beach huts, Jean-François Fourtou's tower doesn't look like it was strictly planned. Rather, it seems as if the cabins were sucked into the air by a great gust of wind and scattered around, then accidentally got stuck together and left behind.

It's no surprise that the beach huts caught Fourtou's attention, with their quintessential architecture and history. The booths are as old as Belgian tourism itself and were initially mainly used as a dressing room for women. Today, the dimensions and shapes are regulated per coastal municipality. Most of the cabins you will find on the Belgian coast have been incorporated into the sculpture of Fourtou. The work occupies a prominent place in the municipality, giving it the allure of a totem or an emblem of the city. Since totems originally represented the people of a community, the structure can be seen as a monument to the beach culture, a symbol of the unity of the beach culture that represents the entire coast.

_________

Happy holidays and a happy new year, everybody!

2016's a real cool year. The Witcher 3's Royal Griffin will remain as a favorite memory of mine, as it was my first big creature build and it sure gave me a good confidence boost that helped me tackle the dragon. Steampunk's still awesome as heck, and although I didn't build as much as I wanted to, the slew of contests really did make this year spectacular :D

I got a full list of things I wanna try out next year, so here's hoping I actually manage to stick to it and stop getting distracted by–ooh, shiny bricks!...

So, cheers to everyone, and here's to a wonderful end and start of a new year!

Onwards to 2017!

This is a compilation of shots (a moontage?) I took of the January 31 lunar eclipse. With some inspiration from others here on Flickr, I decided to order them in the approximate trajectory I witnessed through the sky.

I really lucked out on this one - Missoula is often cloudy in the winter and I wasn't expecting to see this. There were occasional clouds that blew through, but otherwise I was able to see the whole thing. I wish I would have gotten a picture of the moon before the eclipse started - I was awake, just didn't think to take it.

Looking back to the 2017 dragonfly season, rather than having all my precious images stored on a hard drive and not doing much with them, I set about creating a compilation of some of my favoured images and had this printed for my own personal use.

Early in the morning of Saturday August 13th, the Perseïds were around its maximum peak. After Half past one the Moon had set and darkness covered the land. During three hours these meteors were captured, together with the brightest fireball I ever witnessed so far.

Seventeen meteors that probably belong tot the Perseïds and three other of which origin is uncertain.

This image is a vertical panorama from three frames. The landscape is shot with the light of the Moon.

Because this is more photogenic than just one pic. Also, the part is in a bit of an odd spot, so I figured I'd need to do something like this to give the judges a better view of the Vanguard and it's part use.

Nature's Short Stories

down by the frog pond...

Brooksville, Florida

This is an 80s compilation that I bought new back in the day.

I had loved disco as a child, but that was before my adolescent record purchasing. So I had to discover disco all over again.

I'd been buying contemporary, post-disco dance music for years, but then came the "Hi-NRG" sound of the late 80s. (Stock, Aitken + Waterman) Plenty of those songs were covers of classic disco. Enough time had passed that people were willing to revisit it.

So that got me into scouring the world for old disco records. Which I found. Quite a few. I have many Donna Summer records, but the above really is quite a fabulous collection.

Now of course, we might all remember that Ms. Summer has had her 'issues' with the gay community, from icon to pariah to distant friend. She cool now, but it'll never be the same as it were.

At the time I bought this I remember it being a moral question - to buy or not to buy a Donna Summer record? I remember gay men preaching to me in my youth that I should never give my money to her. It was deemed okay to buy OLD records because the money didn't go to her. I bought this one at a used records store but it was basically new.

Let's just say her greatest performance as "Legend" will always be a sad disappointment. She really turned her back on her fans not just when they were down, but when they were DYING.

She recanted of course. Can't quite remember an apology. I have her book (she signed it for me in 2002 or 2003.) Haven't read it. Maybe I'll find an apology there. ???

She got the "Diva" thing down pat, though.

Forgive and move the fuck on, right?

A slideshow (from Youtube) of some of my photographs from 2016. I hope you who watch it enjoy the photos almost as much as I enjoyed capturing them. I thank each of you, my Flickr friends for your continued visits, comments and faves, and wish everyone a peaceful, healthy and fruitful 2017.

I went out hunting for the Perseid Meteors this season and learned again how camera shy these guys can be! You’d see flashes and trails very frequently and usually where your camera was not pointed or when it was not acquiring! This compilation was looking off of the main origination spot in the sky, but managed over 2+ hours to capture more than my other configuration. While they mostly emanate from one location, the specifics of their trajectories can result in some going more across my frame (or even upwards). I processed the Milky Way separately to use as a backdrop and Photoshopped the meteorites where they appeared in frame. The fainter meteorites hint at the limitations of my glass and my sensor—there was no doubt more to see. Still, by far my best meteor shower! Cheers! This is a compilation of a number of images showing the dive sequence of the Belted Kingfisher. Truth be told, this bird was not fishing but bathing.
